It's a flea market and it's quite large... but it's one of the most expensive flea markets I've been to. Not to say there aren't quality bargains, but you have to look for those in between overly expensive stalls (30 euros for a t-shirt???) nevertheless do come visit even if it's just for the sights.
Each time getting worse. It is becoming increasingly crowded, full of tourists and it's almost like any market in any city, only much bigger. Today about noon was virtually impossible to walk down the street Ribera tanners which is the main street of the trail

El Rastro is a must visit in Madrid. Every Sunday and holidays they open, there you will find a multitude of stalls with all kinds of products. There are always people, you should be careful with bags and wallets

A huge flee market with thousands of things. You can find good deals. Definitely a place to visit for tourist if you happen to be in the city on Sunday when most of the places are closed in the morning.

It is immense, but I, particularly, do not like this type of street market (much less that it is second-hand). The reality is that after the collection of all the stalls, the streets remain dirty and smelly, a very ugly image, although it is well organized because immediately, the cleaning workers arrived.

A typical place in Madrid, but part of its charm seems to be gone with the memory. Now there are many people, many pickpockets, it is almost impossible to walk from 12h to 15h or even before in the middle. You can find some interesting stalls of old objects, books, cameras, etc ... It was a great experience for us in this market. Very vibrant and lots of stuffs to look at or shop. it gets pretty crowded in the afternoon, but I guess that is what can make it fun. There was also live music and dance which made it more fun altogether. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Madrid. It opens only on Sundays.

One of the best places to spend a Sunday morning in Madrid. Avoid the main two super busy roads and get into the small squares, alley roads and courtyards on both sides to enjoy antiques, parafernalia and second hand clothes and objects. You can enjoy a very authentic experience there, seeing tenders and people bargain for a xixth century theater costume. Finish the mornig eating some sardines at Santurce.
