Very beautiful, enormous, elaborate, and crowded. The caretakers do an excellent job of keeping the patrons moving and are very helpful (as long as you follow the rules). Be respectful of one of France's national treasures, and you will be amazed at the site. Plan at least days if you want to try and see it all. They do offer a 2 day pass.

Beautiful palace and gardens but just badly organised and a bad experience as a customer. 3.5 hours in line and then it s so crowded you cannot really enjoy the visit, just focus on squeezing through the crowd

Went for "Les eaux nocturnes" on July 14th to see the fireworks. It is a shame that the spectacle does not run longer or starts later to enjoy it by night. Most of the sets would look better by night. It was lovely to see, although we were very disappointed by the fireworks finale. It was short and there were no big fireworks as what is advertised. At one point, we thought it had finally started but that was the finale.. the palace looks lovely at night!! A must!!

Pictures do not do this palace justice. The rooms were extremely beautiful and ornate. The gardens were just as breathtaking as the palace, with a view that goes on for what almost looks like forever!

Had the opportunity to go visit this place and it did not disappoint. It's the most grandeur display of wealth, but dripping in history everywhere. We purchased our tickets online and it was fairly simple. Once you get to the gardens, definitely get yourself the golf cart so you can drive around with an audio guide to learn about the property.

Very nice palace. Huge and well managed. The audio guide really helps as you can know all the details about the object you are watching be it painting or sculpture or the furniture. Loved the paintings the bed rooms of kings and queens and the princesses. The benches inside the palace is huge relief for elderly so that they can sit and relax their legs. The only disappointment was the huge park outside the palace. Its so huge and as we visited on a friday there was no musical fountain. I felt it was waste of time and money. Can buy only the palace ticket and not the park outside.

Very disappointing.

Very disappointing.

We waited for 3 hours in the cold weather and they announced that the palace is not operating today

Oh my God... what a beautiful place! Huge lines to walk in (over an hour just standing outside) and the palace itself was a bit disappointing (except the King's residence). But OMG... the gardens! Those were beautiful... probably worth to spend the whole day there.. sitting next to the lake, enjoying the view, the peace, the magnificent landscape. A must go if visiting France (considering that it's gonna take most of your day)

Just want to point out two tricks I learned from other visitors: get the timed entry passport (the regular passport line can get unbearably long), and head straight to the hall of mirrors the first thing in the morning and backtrack, to avoid the crowd and fully appreciates its beauty.

There's the palace and the gardens. I recomend that the palace be done first if its a fountains show day. Because, If It is, at 15 p.m. all the fountains will start to work and drop water. There are a lot of fountains and gardens. Inside the palace there are the mirror room, an opera, and rooms of the nobels.

Very well maintained palace.. you can feel the richness even now.. the gardens are marvellous.. need one full day if you have to see the whole palace n garden.. there are open cars that you can rent to drive through the gardens... sure you'll be lost in the history...

Just incredible. Spent hours there and couldn't see all of it, we stayed until 5 minutes before closing which gave the opportunity for some nice photos without any other people in them.

The management of the Palace of Versailles should do something about the very long queuing time to get inside (two hours) just because there are only two security scanners. It should replicate what Louvre Museum is doing, which receives perhaps more than 50 times as much visitors per day.

Be careful you can not enter the place even not the park after the opening hours! A very unpolite employee said I should immediately leave the place. I even was not allowed to make a photo. (I have seen a lot of guys who would like to enter Versailles after the opening hours as me :( ) The bad recession is because of the very unpolite employee.

Get a head of the line tour or be prepared to wait a very long time. We waited for close to 4 hours to get in. The ticket office is to the left side of the courtyard. So put one person in the waiting line and another go get tickets.

Very grand place, but without a tour you miss a lot of information. We did it without the tour and had no idea what all the huge paintings meant.

A Wonder! Be advised that the garden's fountains end at 17h30... Or a bit before but that the charge of 10 50 the visite stands. I do not care for it is lovely to lose one self in them. They were designed for that purpose. Count 1 to 2 hours for a stroll.

Buy tickets on your phone, save 2 hours. Ensure you pick the right time to arrive (start the tour) when you buy the tickets. It is not a tour, just a way to get in and walk around. If you do not buy your own tickets on the phone, then buy them at the tourist office, no line in the city, it is a few blocks away. Take water bottle, very nice waling shoes, it is ALOT OF WALKING. Buy the Macaroons, they are costly, but the best in the world there. Read up before you go, and buy a picture catalog for about10 Euro, they take better pictures and you can enjoy the vista instead of being annoying holding your phone bumping into people.....just saying =-) Kidding....enjoy yourself...beautiful and full of history.

France s Palace of Versailles served as the royal ...

France s Palace of Versailles served as the royal residence of France from 1682 until the start of the French Revolution in 1789.

Located about 12 miles southwest of Paris, the opulent castle, famed for its magnificent architecture, lavish furnishing, and sprawling gardens, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As one of the most popular attractions in Europe, the Palace is nearly always bustling, but crowds are at their densest during the busy summer travel season of late May through early September. Weekends are also busy all year round.

To stroll through the Palace like Marie Antoinette without a horde of peasants following you, visit on a weekday or go in off season; the colder months of November to March (excluding holidays) see far fewer crowds.

Palace of Versailles Tip:
Regardless of the season, go early. The Palace gets busier in the late morning and afternoon, so plan to arrive before 10 a.m. to beat the rush.

Get timed entry tickets. Even if you buy the normal entry tickets ahead of time or have a museum pass you will wait in a really long line unless you get there crazy early. We had the museum pass but sprung for the timed entry to avoid the line and it was definitely worth it.
Most of the palace is packed to the gills with people but you can find space outside in the garden. It's a fun place to explore and marvel at, just take your time.

Thousands of people outside in the morning (for ones who already had a ticket!)
Tried ordering a tour but there was only 1 ticket left without notice. There was no way to add just 1 person to the 30 people group.
Don't pay in advance, they don't refund anything!!

Stunning, simply stunning! A true "must see". After your visit, you'll understand why this place is the focal point of so many books and movies. For such an immense, stoic structure, it leaves you feeling an inner calmness and peace. The only negative is they let too many tour groups in at one time. The day I attended, I barely had a place to stand as I went from room to room.

Amazing place, with a even better history, just to see everything that happened there and the atmosphere of the palace, I have to say you almost feel everything. The gardens, you must walk into the gardens, It's a great place to go on every season, we went in the busiest time of the year and even that was great. I'll highly recommend to take a private tour so you don't do really long lines and loose a couple of hours because the visit inside it's long.
