Such an impressive place, the chateau, the immense gardens, the view, the atmosphere, so overhelming.
One of best experience you should do it in your life.
If you that kind who want to know everything and go with all details, definitely one day is not enough.
Old capital city of Paris... 'A eye witness of history' and well maintained Garden.
Another luxurious place where the poor could not enter in its time . But a must see now
Beautiful huge Palace. Very clean place, clean environment and elegant
Excellent Palace with a long history and many large gardens
Such a beautiful palace, you have to see ot for your self. If you want to see only the Palace make sure you are there as early as you can, waiting line can take from 1 hour to 3 hours. The whole place is huge consists of two floors and a massive garden. If you wish to see Marie Antoinette place you need another day.
Beautiful place but it is not baby friendly..PRAM IS NOT ALLOWED INSIDE. The palace is so huge. So it's very difficult and exhausted for the parents to carry or lift a toddler and for the toddler to walk. Parents are not enjoying to visit the Palace, we were so happy to get out and get our pram back. If you have baby/toddler definetly this is not the place for you to visit.
Versailles is a gorgeous little suburb on outskirts of Paris. You need a specific train ticket to get there. Palace is just amazing as are the grounds. Pre-purchase tickets if possible but there are still queues. Self directed tours that allows you to hear about the history at your in pace. It's very grand and an all day affair.
Thanks to this stupid palace in France, the angry mustache man started his own little club in Germany and soon that club became the government. Then Mr. angry mustache man invaded basically all of Europe and killed 60-70 million people.
Amazing! Absolutely loved it! Book online beforehand as cheaper!
Amazing place ... but watch out for pickpockets and bag snatchers which Paris is notorious for
Such a famous and beautiful place..!! So much history. Just when you enter the rooms with paintings, there are two huge windows right opposite to them reflecting glare ALL THE TIME..!!! Where are the planners when you need them. Fix that.! Close the windows, find an alternate to illuminate the room. Or just don't make us PAY to visit things we need to protect our eyes from.!
Learnt that Louis IV was a great athlete and general. Being seen as the Sun King is limiting
I like the Gardens better than the Palace which is crowded. Ate at the restaurant Angelica in the castle and it took forever to order and pay. But, I guess that is typical all over Paris (no tipping culture = slow service). They also have a takeout (rapide) area right next to the restaurant that haa sandwiches, desserts, and coffee. There is also a restaurant with takeout in the Garden.
One of the most wonderful buildings in the world - must be seen! But there are so many tourists. We were there at half past 9 in the morning and though we had our tickets we had to wait two hours in the queue outside.
This was the 2nd place v visited in Paris after Eiffel tower.. and was amazing.. it's slightly outside Paris.. so u got to take separate metro tickets for going.. and even entrance tickets r slightly expensive arnd 29euros per person.. and after that thr was a big queue to enter. Almost took an hr to enter.. better get some food and drink and stand in the line.. but after all the wait it's just worth it to spend the whole day there.. it u see the pics of the king's ball room queens room it's just amazing.. beautiful colors.. audio guide s free so if u r interested go listen to it.. and audio available in most of the languages..it's like visiting Louvre museum only.. and after this the Jardin (gardens) lovely it is. But better be prepared to walk a lot.. v walked like 16k steps.. but very good visit..one of the best places to visit in Paris
The grounds are huge and the architecture is beautiful. The history associated with the palace is astounding. Be aware that the crowds can get out of control, with the line to the palace itself extending almost off the grounds. Tourists here tend to have difficulty knowing how to form a proper queue.
Nicely organised. Audioguide is helful. Gardens is a place to see
The palace is obviously one of the most beautiful and ornate places in Europe. You will be seeing it in a moving horde of people pushing from all directions as well as tour groups which stop in various rooms and impede any movement. Beauty is hard to appreciate when you are swept along like cattle to the next feeding pen of culture.
Marvelous castle with fenomenal gardens. We used an external guide for a trip through the castle. The gardens we visited by ourselves. You can easily spend half a day visiting both.
I love this place you have to visit don t miss to buy the ticket from the website because it s very crowded in the line
Great place for architecture, paintings but full of tourist. You better to book the ticket in advance for going inside the palace if you don't want join the long queue.
The best day trip outside Paris. Must pay and get a golf cart if you want to visit the exterior ground.
A little too crowded in the summer. The gardens were filled with tourist and the palace itself was quite stuffy as it was packed to the brim. Get a guided tour or you ll have to queue for 2-3 hours to get in.
If you want to go to the petite trianon at the back where Marie Antoinette stayed, hiring a golf buggy is 30/hr. The train that runs between the attractions is 15mins between rides and can be a long wait if those on it don t get off to make space. A walk from the back of the gardens back to the palace itself can take 15-20min so plan for that if you have to be back to meet your tour group.
What an absolutely stunning palace. Tips: buy your tickets in advance online and select a time. Buy a ticket for zones 1 and 2 when you're in Paris and Versailles is at the end of zone 2. It's a little bit of a walk from the metro station to the palace but it's not bad. You absolutely need to get the audio guide and take your time going through the halls. This place will absolutely fill up so buy your tickets and select a time period. Also if you want to save money, there is a McDonald's that you pass walking to the palace. Way cheaper than buying food on site.
Really impressive palace with rich history. I was a little bummed that we got to see so little of the palace.
Don't just go straight, you'll miss all the fun. There's magical places where other people disappear if you just get lost in it, and you'll be alone with the stunning beauty of the union between man and nature.
The epitome of French royal grandeur and opulence. The audioguide was useful to learn the history of the chateau. The gardens were impressive. You will need half a day to roam the entire castle grounds
We visited during February low season. Very short lines. We could walk freely without crowd inside the palace. It was too cold and windy to stay long in the garden.
It's almost always too crowded to enjoy.... half the time you are being pushed in large crowds of people shuffling you around.
We got there at 10:30. The line was already 1.5 hours long. We even bought our tickets online before we came. Don't get me wrong, the place is great. But we wasted so much of the day standing in line it was disappointing. But the worst part is that the line was for security. One station. And the guy was barely even looking at the screen. I love the security but maybe add a station or two to get the line moving faster. Note that we were there in July. Peak season. Maybe it's better at other times of the year.
Let me give you a piece of advice visit the castle the morning and take the bus to One Nation Outlet the afternoon good deal the shuttle bus will take you the morning from the Eiffel tower to here and the afternoon from here to one nation and finally from One nation to the Eiffel tower the evening for only 4 because at one Nation they give a 20box gift card ... cheaper than going by train.
What else, If you can attend the event les grandes eaux don't miss it this was really good!
Great day out, specially when the sun is shining. Well worth a visit.
The palace is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit. The interior of the palace is enormous and there's gold and marble everywhere. The garden is giant and you could stroll there for hours.
The palace itself even is free to visit if your under 18 years old or under 26 if your a European citizen.
Louis XIV's architectural masterpiece is a testament to opulence and the divine right of kings to concentrate wealth at the head of state. I'm not sure a more gilded palatial estate exists in all the world, and while almost comically overdone, it will always be emulated by despots and pretenders, purely out of its absurd magnificence.
Great way to spend the day and see how the other half lived. Gardens are spectacular well kept and offer some good walking. However they do a land train and you can hire golf buggies to get you round. Things to note, queues to get into the Palace are long. Book online, we went in with a local tour company and fast passed but this still took 20 minutes others who hadn't pre-booked took 3 hours to get in. Be aware the fountains are not always on, check the website to see when they are on if this is a must see for you, but beware the Palace is even busier on them days. Take water in with you, there is nowhere to purchase any from time you get in queue until you have finished the tour.
A can't miss experience. Go for a guided tour and make sure you see the gardens. It was a jaw-dropping experience.
A must-have hay-long experience on your trip to France!
Included in the Paris pass. This is French architecture at its best. The Gardens of Versailles are equally beautiful.
A must to visit if you are in Paris and if you like history. Take your time to visit it because is well worth it. The imense gardens are perfect for a picnic.
Lines are incredibly enormous, stones are very uncomfortable to queue up on. All food was very overpriced. Every remotely interesting place was severely overcrowded. Would not recommend.
If you have a handicap/disability and ID, entry is available without cost. Lovely place, even with the crowds (closed Mondays).
Palace of Versailles is a beautiful place and a must visit for people visiting Paris. If you have half a day's time, this is a nice place to go outside Paris. It's a quaint and beautiful town with this amazing palace surrounded by a fabulous garden. The outside is as beautiful as the inside. One tip: better to reach early as it really gets crowded by afternoon. Will allow you to go around peacefully, otherwise sometimes it gets ridiculously crowded.
Amazing architecture and internal decoration, you can buy a ticket in the automatic machines for a specific hour and you do not have to wait to the line (few people have understood that), you need at least two hours for the palace, but unfortunately it is very crowded. It definitely worths the visit though. And do not miss the magnificent gardens.
Prepaid&time-slot tickets are a must. This allowed <5 minutes cueing (without: ca. 1.5 hours). Music&water extra isn't worth the price. Nice garden
Magnificent! Unbeleivable! A must see palace in France!
It was just a "check the tourist box". Versailles is famous for its opulence, but comes up short when compared to most other places in Europe, except that it is really big. Inside, the rooms give only a glimpse of what they used to be like, with most paintings and furniture being reproductions. We much preferred Frederiksborg in Denmark and Windsor Castle. Outside, the gardens are huge, but not as well kept as Peterhoff in St Petersburg. Overall, we got the impression that the palace used to be awesome, but is now just blah.
One of the most well preserved palaces across the world, in it you see the magnificent - or decadent if you prefer - life of royalty.
The vast gardens which completely eclipse the horizon on every direction are a delight to walk in. I'd suggest walking if you a couple of miles don't daunt you or you could take the golf carts.
Definitely worth the travel from Paris.
This is a beautiful castle. Get the audioguide, it makes things more interesting
Our visit was an immersion into the art, history and sociology of France during the 17th and 18th century. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided clear explanation
Be prepared for long, long queues! Get there early! Saying that it's well worth it, but sad that it was so busy in the house that unable to enjoy fully, it would be a problem if you don't like crowds or being squashed a little!!
However, the gardens (my favourite part), are wonderful with plenty of room to explore. Don't forget to visit the grand & petit trianon, just beautiful.
Beautiful palace. This place has lot of beautiful paintings .
A Place to go at least once in the life.... wonderful, le Chateau et les jardins... handsome
Great, but very long cue, even if you both your ticket earlier..
You have to visit this palace and experience its majestic splendour
I went to the garden only! I passed the whole day waking visiting different area and i couldn t see everything!
Very nice place to visite in Paris (around Paris) i highly recommend visiting it.
The price of entrance to the garden only was around 8 and 7 for students.
You can rent a car but you can t go anywhere you want (cars are not allowed to drive on majority of the garden), and you can also rent bikes
Amazing sight, highly recommended. We took the guided tour so learned a lot!
The Castle and the gardens of Versailles are beautiful. History comes back to life. You can't skip this when you are in the area
One of the most visited monument in Paris. Beautiful palace. Best time to visit is in summers. Awesome garden for picnics with kids.
Long queues, in the hot sun...really could this not be organized better. 2 hrs to queue and 45 minutes to "enjoy" 17th century French royal megalomania and their deep love of gold paint. Along with masses of other people crushed going through small doorways. Gardens are good though. Try going there first sat at 2pm and avoiding the queues for the house which are smaller after 5pm.
Great views of the gardens We rented a golf cart on site and rode around the gardens. You need a good bit of time to see most of the Palace and Gardens.
The palace and it's gardens are must visit while you are in Paris. The Garden is really big. We needed 3hrs to see the complete garden. There is no play area for kids here. On weekends there is a big crowd here so it's better to be here early morning to beat the rush. Also would be a nice idea to pack your own food while roaming here.
If you think review was helpful to you, then do press the like button.
Very grandeur scenery. Just ensure you get a museum pass before getting into the palace. With museum pass, you can visit a lot of places for one single price. This place is so packed with visitors, so if you want to get good pictures, then come really early. Pick your battle in terms what you want to see. Don't go slowly in the beginning since the first few rooms are not worth taking pictures. Go to the grand room. And go straight to the Halls of Mirrors. That's the place to start.
Beautiful but crowded. Little help from staff.PARIS PASS got us in but not without a long wait. Carrying a cane gets you past the long queues
Such a beautiful place with so much history! Get here early. Lines are horrendous. I
Gorgeous... The inside, the outside, our tour guide!! Lol I would skip the line if you don't want to wait 3 hours to get in! Lol also if you can book a tour of it you should and ask for Manny to be your tour guide! Hes amazingly hilarious!!
Wonderful gardens. I preferred that over the palace
The garden is absolutely beautiful, but the woman who sold me the tickets looks like she didn t want to be there. She just sit there looking at me like.. what? I told her I want a ticket and she replied 18 . With no other explanation, so I walked out and Went to the garden never knowing how to get to the Palace, I walk to the other side... and it was too late. Everything was close inside. We just wasted 18 . Thank you for nothing ticket lady, tank you for ruining such a beautiful experience for us.
Musical gardens are just fantastic
Veey good free audio guide
Great palace tour
Loved it
One of the worst places i know and i have never been in paris
Long, long, long wait times. Get there early or buy the Skip-the-line passes. If not, 2 hour wait at least. Once you get it, it's incredible.
So big and very nice. Queue system was pathetic. Have to wait nearly 90 minutes to enter inside
Bad organization, no helpful stuff at the entrance to guide or give relevant informations and save time. Even with online ticket waiting time is few hours. Yet, inside is nothing special if you don't get the nice season for gardens :)
It's great to know how the kings lived and how they ended up.
The Palace of Versailles is an astonishingly well crafted piece of architecture. It really doesn't make you surprised that there was a revolution in France! With the ostentatious design and size of this magnificent but yet uncessacery building.
We recommend getting the fast track tickets as the queue with normal tickets was the size of the palace! The rooms inside were just as fantastic as the outside of the building, however they can take a while to get through with the amount of people they let in. It can get very crowded during the holidays. The audio guides are well worth getting as they provide as great insight into the amazing details of each room. I personally found the gardens more enjoyable and interesting than the main house, as there was loads of different areas to explore and you could even go on rowing boats on the "grand canal" at an extra cost. There were plenty of places to eat and get refreshments along the way at reasonable prices compared to similar places in Paris. Despite being there for around 6 hours we still didn't get the chance to see Marie-antoinette's estate and the gardens around that area. So I'd recommend to give yourself even longer if you would like to get everything in, as it's very much worth it.
A huge place to see everything. We did one day visit but we couldn't see all of the buildings. If you are really into history and buildings, you probably want to spend two days. Train (RER C) is convenient from downtown Paris. About 7 for return and about one hour to get Versailles from downtown.
Half a day to spend, super palace. Long queue some time.
It's a shame to see how comically crowded Versailles has become over the years. The guidebooks all tell you to arrive early, but even getting in at 9 will put you in a substantial line. Once inside, it's a crush to get anywhere. Disappointingly, the Paris Museum pass didn't work for the gardens on the day we visited due to the "Musical Spectacular," which consisted of obnoxiously loud music being blasted throughout the gardens.
This is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. It's amazing to think that I was standing in the same rooms as royalty did hundreds of years ago. It's very crowded however, very long lines, they do move pretty quickly tough. You must but you're tickets before getting in line. It's a good idea if someone stays in line while someone goes to buy tickets. Buying the passport gets you in to palace, to the gardens too see fountains at night, and to see the carriage (which really was the highlight of the tour for me personally) We also got lucky to see a horse getting warmed up for a performance that evening at the Versaille equestrian school. It's definitely worth visiting.
Incredible palace, incredible palace grounds, and an altogether excellent half day trip from Paris. Make sure you pick up an audio guide for the tour of the interior of the palace because it provides great historical nuggets.
The Palace of Versailles was the principal royal residence of France from 1682, under Louis XIV, until the start of the French Revolution in 1789, under Louis XVI. It is located in the department of Yvelines, in the region of More
