An amazing place to visit in the low season. Rich in history and detail. The Christmas market in the town is also very good. Wouldn't recommend visiting when there are too many tourists around.

The place is huge and overwhelming. Take an entire day for visiting. The artworks are amazing, the gardens are vast and the hall of mirrors is breathtaking but the visit lacks in historical insight and relevance. I was also disappointed that all the water fountains were off for the whole of my visit (about 8hrs in total). You should check if they'll be working on the day of your visit, people say they are really something. The place is packed with tourists and there are lineups. You can buy your ticket beforehand online and avoid the hours of waiting, which I very much recommend.

Lovely palace, absolutely amazing architecture and grandeur unlike anything I've seen in my life.

Sadly, had to wait 2 hours in the queue from midday to get in for free (under 26 and in EU) and so can't get the 5 stars here.

One of the best places in France to see . BEAUTIFUL . You can take a golf cart for a cost to ride out into the garden , park , and look at the villas .you can literally spend all day looking at the palace and garden . Felt like a Queen walking in the garden with the beautiful scented flowers. One of my favorite visits .

I could give it more points for being what it is, but we spend the day waiting in lines , to go in, to the gardens, to the train, to the toilets, to the Trianon, then to the other...
This part was a nightmare.
It wasn't well organized, nor well explained about the tickets, the gardens, etc.., we lost a lot of time, explaining about our tickets and
Trying to understand what is going on, what did we pay for and why do we pay more once on site.
Would never go back there .

Forget 5, its 50 stars for the grandeur; but 1 star for the management. The most haphazard service i have ever seen. Almost zero information available to begin with, mean in each of the lines, I found out (after 30 to 60 mins wait) that it was not the correct line. Super frustrating. However, after hours and hours of waiting under the scorching sun - it was all worth when I finally got inside. Ahh..those rich people knew how to live ;)

If you're into visiting large luxurious places, you'll definitely enjoy the place. You get a nice dose of french history as well with the audio guide. The paintings are beautiful as well, especially the ones in the war room.

Beautiful, breathtaking grandeur. A tour through French history. As an American, I especially appreciated the painting of the battle of Yorktown. The gardens are quite spectacular, admire them from the inside if you want to skip the extra 10 entrance fee.

You had to tear me away, there is so much to see here. The palace is beyond description, the tour guides are great, friendly and helpful. If you take the train up to Versailles from Paris, a good tip is to grab one of the bike carriages up to the palace cause you will spend the rest of your day walking, so treat yourself and it helps pass part of the crowd. Typically there is a line, but well worth any wait.

Prepare your self to walk. I mean if you want to see everything you must walk for miles and miles. Versailles is paradise for joggers. There are tons of history here, grab an audio guide and enjoy your time.

I absolutely loved it! Went there around 11am and only stayed in the line for 1h30min. I meet a lady who went later than me and she stayed 3hrs in the line, so I recommended to come early. It was a big crowded but it was okay. Plus the place is huge so I only left at 8.30pm. I would definitely do it again!

If visiting Paris, this is a must see. Will take a full day to experience. Very easy to get to using Public transportation. Have lunch or dinner in the town of Versailles, just a short walk from the palace.

Incredible place to visit. We spent our time in the gardens as the tour was just so crammed. The opulence is everywhere and you both marvel and feel ill at the money invested in the place when there was so much poverty at the time.

Totally worth the 20 entrance fee. The palace is very cool and the audio tour helps you as you re making your way through it. You can spend the entire day on the grounds because there is so much to do. Be aware there will be a lot of walking unless you pay to take the mini train which is something like 4 each way. Otherwise we walked to the Trianon estate and it took ~25 minutes.

Versailles has to be one of your top places to visit when coming to Paris. Please note that Versailles is not right in Paris and is about 30 minutes outside the main sites of Paris. The first thing that I didn't expect is the sheer size of this Palace and it's ground. The place is absolutely massive. I recommend doing the guided tour of the Palace because it truly provides the background, history, and some fun anecdotes of this amazing historic site. After going through the palace, please take the time to walk around the garden area. Like the Palace it is massive and will take some time to explore. There are golf cart or side by side type vehicles that you can rent if do not want walk. A quick note about of food. If you want to get some authentic French food you need to visit the Halles du Notre Dame market just a couple blocks away. There are several shops with fresh foods for sale along with a variety of restaurants. You can also do shopping for clothes, souvenirs, etc. Great little place to go.

Beautiful place, the highlight of my trip to France. I waited in the early morning for 3 hours, but it was well worth it, being rewarded with an amazing castle, and matching gardens. I barely had time to enjoy it all

Set aside at least 5+ hrs to explore this palace. I was quite amazed by the variety of historical references through paintings and art. The hall of mirrors and museum of history of France is a must visit. As you enter , without any doubt you would start to feel the rich history of French and it's architecture.

Fantastic place to visit. Rich in history. The Hall of Mirrors is a must see in the palace. The gardens are enormous and relaxing to walk through. I was only able to walk a portion of the grounds but look forward to returning and exploring more of Versailles.

Huge collection of art and impressive rooms. Easily spent 4-5 hours here including walking around the gardens. Audio tour gives a good brief on the history. To beat the crowd, book the ticket at the earliest time slot from the official website, and make sure it is priority entry which has a shorter line up.

The Palace is an incredible place, but the crowd made it difficult to fully enjoy. It's hard to imagine how they managed to build such a large place back then. To fully appreciate it, you need to plan on spending the day. We didn't have the time to explore the gardens and the Queen's wing was closed for renovations in April on 2019.

It looks like some king was trying to impress people to come hang out at his new house outside the city center, or something. Pretty opulent, and a little over the top. Gardens seem ripe for development into high end condos, or hipster micro-brew/ restaurant locations

The Palace of Versailles is always a joy to see! B...

The Palace of Versailles is always a joy to see! But you must be prepared. Photo shoots in the Gardens is a must! Just make sure you bring the right shoes! Comfortable shoes are the best because there are lots of little rocks and you ll be doing a lot of walking. If your going into the Palace, try to get your tickets in advance to avoid the long line. The summer is really busy! Some seasons, the Garden is free unless there are special shows going on. Stay updated by going to the website before your visit. For families, Strollers are allowed outside in the gardens. This is a great place to let your kids run around. You can even pack a picnic and enjoy it while sitting on a bench or on the grass in certain areas. If your planning a picnic, bring a blanket. Inside the palace, strollers are not allowed but there are lockers. It s hard with babies, so don t forget to bring a sling if possible. Backpacks are convenient and easy to carry, so I recommend it. Pack some water and a few snacks. Restrooms are located in and near the Palace and there are small restaurants/snack bars around the garden. It s not expensive to buy lunch in the snack bars. 12 average for a meal/per person. You can t do it all in one visit!!! So make sure to choose what you really want to do and have a plan. The Garden alone can take all day! If your only here for one day, I recommend going inside the Palace...it s incredibly beautiful! Hope you enjoy your visit to Versailles!

This is an absolutely amazing museum with beautiful exhibitions and wonderful gardens. Alongside The Getty Museum in Los Angeles, this is my favorite one. The painting of Napoleon and the painting of the battle or Orlean took my breath away. The gardens are truly amazing too. It takes at least 2 hours to go through them. I recommend everyone to visit it. Your trip to Paris will not be the same if you miss it.

Beautifully built palace, full of historic moments and the representation of society's inequalities by then.
I got a bike tour with Stu,which you can find on trip advisor, that way we rode our bikes thru the day in Versailles, went to the farmer's market and had picnic lunch behind the castle, where the locals go. After that, around 5 pm, they got us in the palace, when the crowd was gone, so we did not have to go thru hours of line to get in.

This was probably my least favorite tourist destination in France. We were told that if you buy the Paris Pass to get free transport and a skip-the-que priviliges. The train ride to Versailles seems was not included and we got a 35 Euro fine for riding a trian without the correct ticket. When we finally got to Versailles there was no skip the que. we had to stand in a que for 1 hour and 30 minutes before we got in the door. it was so crowded everyone just shuffles slowly in a giant line from room to room. its so full and crowded you can't see much, move much or take decent photos, unless you are in a courtyard or foyer. Not recommended for anyone with claustrophobia. A giant let down, I wanted so badly to enjoy the hall of mirrors, but ended up just wanting to get through the tour as fast as possible so I can get out to breath. the toilets que was almost as long as the one to get into the museum. not enough bathroom facilities for the amount of people they let in.

Wow! This place by far was my favorite tourist location when I visited France. The palace and gardens are absolutely amazing! Be prepared for a long day of walking. We could have spent days here if we wanted to but to get a decent feel of its beauty, i would set aside 3hrs+.

Very impressive building, but with the exception of the Hall of Mirrors, which is legitimately excellent, the interior is just another opulent European palace with gaudy furniture. The grounds are the real treat, so leave time to explore the gardens and mazes. Gift shop is expectedly overpriced.

My second time there and it remains breathtaking!

Obviously very busy and a giant queue to get in. Lots of security to get in which makes everything take a bit longer.

Definitely worth a visit and make sure you visit the gardens too.

The palace is incredible. The amount of detail outside and inside is a marvel. We had a guided tour and I would say it was a fun experience. The gardens are stunning also, don't expect to see everything in one day.

The line to entrance was way too big, we were told that there would be a show of "dancing waters" from the multiple fountais of the garden, and that it would be available all day, but we couldn't see any; Plus the trontem (dont remember if this was the actual name) closed way too soon and we couldn't visit it even though we paid for it. In the end, we have paid for much more that we actually visited and saw, and if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't spend an entire afternoon on this (also because it is a little far from the center of Paris).

This place is absolutely amazing! Seeing pictures and videos all of my life was nothing compared to seeing it in person. I would set aside one full day to see everything and even that may not enough time. I would highly recommend a bike tour. It is such a huge estate, I would not recommend trying to walk the grounds.

A great place. Feels really great to jump back 350 years. The only problem is you can't take pram/ Baby stroller inside. You have to carry your baby all the time by yourself and it takes long time to look everything around. If you want to see everything including palace and garden, it definitely will take at least 2 days.

Very crowded inside... and annoying 1 way system in some rooms so I missed a section. I expected a difference in crowds with Covid times but apparently not. Each room is impressive though, elaborately decorated everywhere you look. There is a free Versailles app with the brief audio guide however the handheld device gives you explanations for additional rooms.

The queue for your time slot starts half an hour before, and it took 25 minutes for the entire cue to get inside. My time slot was 11am and the 10:30 and 11am cues were very long. If you don't want to wait, consider walking around the gardens until 25 minutes after your scheduled time slot, then you can walk right in.

Ok so we waited in line for like 3 hours or more, and it was ... ok. I mean I'm not dissing this place at all, it's beautiful. However, it's nothing too amazing if you've ever been to Palace's like this in France, Italy or England. Check it out if you're keen, but it's a bit of a let down in my opinion.

Very well taken care of and very good explanations in the recording provided.

Even though the palace is so big, only some parts open for public to see. You don't really need to allocate as much time as Musee du Louvre

Groups are supposed to be staggered and I'm sure it is difficult to meet the high demand of tourists but the chance to take pictures, admire, or really enjoy your walk is limited by the hoard of people shoulder to shoulder in every room, know this ahead of time!!! Bring someone tall for photos, snap, and move quickly after, there are tons of people behind you waiting to do the same.
I'm sure that people would be willing to pay a higher premium for time slots with a more restricted number of visitors. I'd love the chance to admire without feeling like I am in someone else's way the entire time and I was there for the off season. Otherwise, I recommend a guide. They are talented and educated and you learn so much more than the limited signs and displays offer.

This will be a day trip if you are staying in Paris. But I definitely recommend you take in the opulent comfort that would eventually cost its main residents their heads.

The interior tour is the most ostentatious display of wealth I have ever walked into. The Hall of Mirrors is impressive today, but it definitely shows its age. It must have been quite an impressive sight to the guests who walked that space in its heyday.

My favorite part of the Palace were the gardens. They are equally grand and beautiful and fun to get lost in the green spaces.
