The International Airport, Kolkata was originally named as Dum Dum Airport and was commissioned in 1924 with the arrival of DAKOTA-3 as the first Aircraft. From 1960 to 1969 this Airport continued to be the number one port in India in terms of Traffic and Passengers. It was renamed as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in January 1995 and now it is the fifth busiest Airport in the country after Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore handling aoubt 8.5 millions passengers annually. The Kolkata Air Cargo Complex was commissioned as the first cargo terminal in the country in the year 1975.

One of the best airport in India, but our own Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport is getting better day by day. It's staff is the most helpful among all the airports in India. Getting transportation has become much easier so even if I have to catch an early morning flight I find it easier to go there. Food in airport is always expensive, so it is better to have meal before starting the journey.

It is one of the busiest airport of India and catering to the needs of travellers of East and whole North-east India as well as South-East Asia. The food boulevard is the most attractive destination inside the airport. However, the Airport/Airlines staff are not much professional in handling the matters of guests in comparison to other big airports of the country. The overall maintenance including cleanliness, particularly toilets, are not at par with Delhi Airport (T3). AAI Kolkata needs to learn and implement a lot from Delhi.

Structure of this.....
Air India operates hangars at the airport, while Bharat Petroleum and Indian Oil act as fuellers. Catering facilities are owned by Taj-Sats and Oberoi Flight Services.

The airport's new integrated terminal is spread over 233,000 m2 (2,510,000 sq ft) and is able to handle 25 million passengers annually, compared to the previous terminals' capacity of five million. The terminal is an L-shaped structure, containing six levels. It contains 128 check-in counters that utilise CUTE (Common User Terminal Equipment) technology, and has 78 immigration counters and twelve customs counters. Passenger lounges are provided by Air India. The terminal is equipped with 18 aerobridges and a further 57 remote parking bays. There are plans to construct an 18-foot bronze statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the integrated terminal complex.

Kolkata's old international and domestic terminals closed when the integrated terminal opened. However, the old international terminal may be used for future hajj services, and the domestic terminal may be used by regional airlines. An earlier proposal of continuing low-cost carrier operations from the existing domestic terminal has been shelved due to the need to fully utilise the new integrated terminal's capacity.

In the financial year from April 2011 to March 2012, Kolkata airport served 10.3 million passengers, 85% which were travelling domestically. The withdrawal of Lufthansa's service to Frankfurt in March 2012 left Kolkata with no direct connections beyond Asia. However, other international operations increased in 2012. The new terminal has attracted some airlines to expand their route networks to include Kolkata.

In September 2012, the Airports Authority of India upgraded the airport's cargo-handling capacity, enabling it to cater for the demand until 2015 16. There has been a 25 per cent growth in international cargo movement to and from Kolkata airport and a 15 percent increase in outward transit. Automobile parts accounted for the bulk of the growth in the movement of cargo from the city to other countries. In November 2008 the first Centre for Perishable Cargo (CPC) in West Bengal was opened at the airport. The CPC has an area of 742.5 m2 (7,992 sq ft) and an annual storage capacity of 12,000 million tonnes. The CPC had been undergoing trials that started in June 2008 and was built with a 67.5 million (US$980,000) grant-in-aid from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) part of the Commerce Ministry. The volume of export was 21,683 tonnes in 2008 09, during the current fiscal more than 23,042 tonnes of cargo were handled by the airport. Similarly the volume of import cargo increased from 16,863 tonnes to 18,733 tonnes, increasing over ten per cent during the same period. However, in 2008 09 the total volume of cargo handled by the airport declined by 4.8% from the previous year.

On 3 June 2019, Singapore Airlines operated the Airport's first A350-900 aircraft from Singapore to Kolkata, enhancing the weekly seat capacity.

This is Netaji Subhash Chandra International Airport one of the best airports that I ever visited. Very clean and wide space. No bothering. Transportation was easy. All in one place. Love it.

Kolkata is my hometown and I fly very often here..over the past few years I haven't noticed any remarkable improvements here..most of the places the escalators keep closed..2days back I landed here in the morning and the toilet was in horrible condition..no toilet paper inside, no disposable toilet seat cover..nobody was cleaning it and the floor was full of urine..nothing looked hygienic..I would like to request the authority to check the situation there specially during this covid situation..please do remember that we left Bengal because there was no infrastructure or job for us. If you can't do that even now for the future generations, then shame on you..
Lounge is another place where people visit regularly and that place is also noting compared to any other international lounges..it's shady and no international option to have..

Very small changes will make this airport better, like behaviour of security check personals, a better space to remove laptop etc near security check, speed processing of scanned items, better intuitive navigation boards to find places and terminals.

Great flying experience out of the airport. The bathrooms are mostly clean, terminals are nuce, they also have good sitting and sleeping areas.
The travel lounge is basic, but it does the job of feeding you and sitting you well, away from the crowd.

To catch up with world-class airports, this airport needs to correct the basics. Washroom is a massacre here. Not cleaned properly. Water supply in taps not proper. Hand driers not working properly. I have been to many airports in India and also outside, but never experienced such bad washrooms. Availability of transportation from the airport to the city is very limited. If you miss AC buses you gonna wait for long. Food is overpriced. Can't comment on staff behaviour as I have never experienced any untoward incident.

One air india staff misbehaved with me today while i was drinking water from the tap when i was about to catch my vistara flight from ccu to del at 1710hour flight no. UK778 .this incident happend at around 1530hours on 11th may 2019 near air india domestic boarding section in terminal 2. Kindly see the photograph of the tap . During drinking suddenly i heard a voice ..hello hello hello..and suddenly one air india ground staff start shouting. Surprisingly when i saw his face he was a little angry and asking me to use a glass. I told him that this drinking water arrangement is mend to drink directly. But he keep shouting on me and told me that cant i see that glasses are there i suppose to use them to drink. When i asked him that this arrangement is mend to drink directly he was not even listening me . "Tumko paani nahi peena aata tumne saara paano jhutha kar diya.glass rakha hai dikhai nahi deta tumko. " for one second i felt like he is my teacher who himself doesnt know how to use these taps . When i told him sir main bhi sarkari mulazim hu mujhe tahjeeb hai paani peene ki " toh this fellow replied me "mere ghar main bhi sab sarkari mulazim hai mujhe mat sikhao jaada " this guy wasnt even understanding my point.suddenly another staff came onto the scene and asked this make to keep quiet . When i asked him that please show me your id card and id number he turned his id card upright down. And warn me not to touchhis id card. I can recognise his face very well. But such a horrible experience i faced today with air india. India air india people should train their employee in a good manner at least they should know how to use a potable water tap.when i was about to go for the complaint another guy who was with him told me that he will tell him not to repeat it again with any staff. So i felt like to post it here atleast people should be aware about these staff. I came inside for boarding and feeling like to complaint about this guy but i dont have any of his information.

The Didi's Government has done justice to the infrastructure of the International Airport. Few things like parking, taxi hawkers etc needs to be taken into consideration. Or else it's a kudos from my side.

This airport quite big. The staffs are friendly. The airport is not properly providing drinking water on 25/4/18, only board is kept , but no water is available on that area. Washrooms must be maintained little more carefully.

The worst airport of india in terms toilet facilities. Very few toilets given the size of the airport & number of people very insufficient toilet rooms. Always there is a big queue.

A lot has changed in the past 10 months. The lounge isn't what it supposed to be, the food quality over at stores have decreased and prices seem to have increased. But I guess Covid has created some sort of a gap here.
