Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport i...

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is only public airport of kolkata and biggest in eastern india. People can travel to different national or international airports form here. It's the 3rd busiest airport of India. This airport has two terminal one for Domestic and another for International. All the flights by different operators are operated from both of the terminals. It's located at dumdum, slightly out of the city. Now a days this area also has become well populated.
It has sophisticated security system along with consumer satisfied services also. The cleanliness of the new airport is well maintained. The ambiance of the airport is wonderful and the whole building is beautifully decorated with aesthetic sense. The shopping complex built inside is also lavish. There are many shops of well renowned and international brands and adequate food parlours and restaurants for the waiting passengers. One can really enjoy the lounge access in this airport. There are plenty of well maintained rest rooms. The directions to various gates, toilets and other important services are well built and properly placed. There are arrangements for wheelchairs and transportation cars inside the building also. One can easily access free and clean drinking water facility located at all the places inside the airport terminal.
One suggestion for betterment though, the display boards could have been bigger and placed higher than they actually are.

International terminal is not that busy. U can relax and wait for your flight without bumping into people. Lounge and few small restaurant are available if any one wants to grab a bite before flight. U can also buy books although mainly Indian writer's books. It has a very laid back nature since there are fewer international flights from this part of India. One thing I did not like the final checking of your baggage while u r about to board the aircraft. They tend to open Ur carry on luggage which is very annoying

The place is good but I have been to much better airports. The staff at the shops like KFC in particular are really arrogant. Air conditioning also becomes very cool that at night it becomes difficult at night even in summer. Toilets are okayish.. Can manage but not that clean and good.

Enjoy wonderful smoothies here.

Very neat and clean airport, has a lot of shopping and food options on the first floor. However, the chain lounges and restaurants are not functional and all the load is being catered by only one lounge which makes the lounge a little crowded place.

CCU is the finest airport of India ever i seen.
Kolkata Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport consists of a modern, six-level L-shaped terminal divided into domestic and international wings. The former domestic terminal still handles a few regional flights, and the former international terminal is used for chartered Hajj flights

"Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport...

"Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport" is a good airport in west bangle and in international terminal not too much shop and food item to spend long time there as compare to Delhi and Chennai airport.

Security check is good and they help to complete the check as early as possible. But after security checking if need to spend 2-3 hours then the visiting space is small as I think.

Thanks.

Good to leave the city. Rest nothing that great. Being a metro not up-to-mark. No discipline on parkings, sub standard services. No inline checking, not to many flights connecting major countries. So basically its an airport which could have been far better then what it is now.

Among all these newly constructed airports in India, this one is worst kept, worst arrangements and worst everything. This is all because of the highly unprofessional bong staff who works less and does more of unionbaaji

No social distancing while checking in. Long queues and once inside post security checks, frequent power cuts and therefore escalators and lifts not working. With luggages and kid one has to use stairs and no AAI personnel seen around to help or provide support.

Outside the airport is a beautiful area on the edge of town.
This was well before the corona virus outbreak.

Unfortunately, we had very bad experience both while arriving and departing.

The staff of the airport were ok, not extra helpful but they didn't ignore us.

The police were extremely rude, I'm not sure if it's the norm over there but we were harassed for no reason and very nearly missed our flight.

I have no plans to ever visit this place again.

This airport is one of the most popular and busiest international airport in India.. situated in dum dum, Kolkata. The place highly securitized and systematic. Very big parking place and this airport is one of the biggest airport in India. Very neat clean and attractive place . Staff are very nice . You will find all the facilities there. It's India's fifth busiest airport and handled 19 million passengers per year in 2017. According to information released by the Airports Council International (ACI) in April 2018, Kolkata is now India's fastest growing airport. Passenger traffic increased by 27% over the past year. Further increases are expected following the launch of the government's Udan regional air connectivity scheme in April and May 2018.

A real pleasing Airport with lovely supporting staff. A well arranged security for the passengers. Well guided Separate International and Domestic Terminals both for arrival and Departure. A well maintained and easily accessible parking both for private and public vehicles. Even Public A.C. Bus Terminus very close to Domestic Arrival Terminal. Small Cafeteria and Eateries by eminent brands and not too expensive like other Airports in India for those waiting for their passengers arrival.

Every airport is guaranteed to be good from inside but this one I feel lacked cleanliness. Plus just outside the airport s domestic arrival gate, not even 100 metres, there are local stalls selling tea and cigarettes. Seemed quite strange to me.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (...

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (IATA: CCU, ICAO: VECC) is an international airport located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, serving the Kolkata metropolitan area. It is located approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) from the city centre. The airport was earlier known as Dum Dum Airport before being renamed in 1995 after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a prominent leader of the Indian independence movement.

Spread over an area of 2,460 acres (1,000 ha), Kolkata airport is the largest hub for air traffic in the eastern part of the country and one of two international airports operating in West Bengal, the other being Bagdogra. The airport handled almost 20 million passengers in financial year 2017-18 making it the fifth-busiest airport in India in terms of passenger traffic after airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. The airport is a major centre for flights to Northeast India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China and Southeast Asia. In 2014 and 2015, Kolkata Airport won the title of Best Improved Airport in the Asia-Pacific region awarded by the Airport Council International.
History
Kolkata airport traditionally served as a strategic stopover on the air route from Europe to Indochina and Australia.[5] Many pioneering flights passed through the airport, including Amelia Earhart's in 1937.[6] In 1924, KLM began scheduled stops at Calcutta, as part of their Amsterdam to Batavia (Jakarta) route.[7] The same year, a Royal Air Force aircraft landed in Calcutta as part of the first round-the-world expedition by any air force. The airport began as an open ground next to the Royal Artillery Armoury in Dum Dum.[9] Sir Stanley Jackson, Governor of Bengal, opened the Bengal Flying Club at Calcutta aerodrome in February 1929.[10] In 1930, the airfield was made fit for use throughout the year,[11] and other airlines began to utilise the airport. Air Orient began scheduled stops as part of a Paris to Saigon route,[12] and Imperial Airways began flights from London to Australia via Calcutta in 1933.[13] This began a trend that drew many airlines to Calcutta airport.Calcutta played an important role in the Second World War. In 1942, the United States Army Air Forces 7th Bombardment Group flew B-24 Liberator bombers from the airport on combat missions over Burma. The airfield was used as a cargo aerial port for the Air Transport Command, and was also used as a communication centre for the Tenth Air ForcePassenger services grew after the Second World War. Calcutta became a destination for the world s first jet-powered passenger aircraft, the de Havilland Comet, on a British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) route to London. Furthermore, in 1964 Indian Airlines introduced the first Indian domestic jet service, using Caravelle jets on the Calcutta Delhi route.
Between the 1940s and 1960s, the airport was served by several major airlines including Aeroflot,[15] Air France,[16] Alitalia,[17] Cathay Pacific,[18] Japan Airlines,[19] Philippine Airlines,[20] KLM, Pan Am,[21] Lufthansa,[22] Swissair[23] and SAS.[24] Due to the introduction of longer-haul aircraft and the poor political climate of Calcutta during the 1960s, several airlines discontinued their service to the airport. The 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War saw a large increase of both refugees and disease in Calcutta, causing more airlines to cease services to the city. In 1975, the airport opened the first dedicated cargo terminal in India.[5]
In the early 1980s, plans emerged to connect the airport with the city center by tram. The proposed route went to the airport from Maniktala, via Vivekananda Road, Ultadanga and Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue. The line partly completed 1985, but further expansion to the airport was cancelled due to the financial downing of Calcutta Tramways Company. The extension proposal re-appeared in 1999,

Previously Kolkata was one of the worst airports i've experienced but now it has a new terminal which is sufficient in size and clean. It is still not anywhere near to compete even IGI Delhi or Mumbai airport though. I appreciate the cleanliness. I would like to see more restaurants or food courts, and cleaner toilets. Presently there is one food court at the domestic departure, and couple of cafes at the international departure. No shopping plaza. Wifi is poor and only free for 30min, but you need to have an Indian phone number to connect. Staff are slow.

I was stunned when i first landed at this airport. I never thought this airport would be so beautifully designed, well organized and it is an architectural marvel in India. Heavily guarded, super net and clean, well mannered stuff and most importantly not so much crowded. Departure is spacious, every airliners have separate place, enough chair to sit. drinking water is safe and toilet is super clean. It has a very good hotel inside, anybody could stay if he/she has connecting flight within budget. i must say this airport is a true beauty in India.

Nice big spacious airport. Domestic and international flights depart from the same terminal so that is a big convinience. Retiring rooms/dormitory are hardly there (10 rooms) which are given out on first cum first serve basis. Plenty shops are there.
