I applied for a job at the embassy suites, and they said they were in desperate need of employees. I went in and interviewed the next day, and Keith, who I believe is the assistant manager, seemed like he didn't want to be interviewing me for some reason. Despite the fact that he spent the whole interview looking at his phone, I got the job. Their HR rep was very nice and helpful with the paperwork process and told me Keith said he would call me in the next couple of days to tell me when I would start. After two days and no phone call, I decided I would call and see what was going on, but no one answered the front desk phone. I waited for about 15 minutes and called again, but once again no one answered. I repeated this process of waiting 15 minutes and calling for about three hours when finally someone answered the phone. I explained the situation and they transferred me to Keith who didn't pick up the phone, so I left a message asking when I started. Two more days later I still had not received a call, so I called back again and big surprise no one answered the phone. I called at least 12 times throughout the day, and finally, someone picked just to transfer me to Keith who didn't pick up again. I called back and the same guy answered the phone. I explained my predicament and asked if he could possibly find Keith and grab him for me. The guy on the phone responded by saying, "look he'll call you when he calls you," and then he hung up on me. It was at the point where I had bills coming up that I needed to pay, so I went over to the hotel in person to see if there was a reasonable explanation for what was going on. When I got there there was no one at the front desk, and I went looking for someone who could help me. I finally found Keith who recognized me, looked shocked, and then told me to go wait in the lobby. I waited for 45 minutes before a lady at the front desk asked if I had been helped. I once again explained my situation and she went to go find him. She came back about five minutes later and said that one of the housekeepers saw Keith leave out one of the side doors. I asked the lady to tell Keith to call me when he got a chance, and she wrote my number on a piece of paper. I still haven't heard back from Keith or anyone, and I don't expect to. I now work at the front desk of a different hotel, and I'm studying to get a degree in hospitality management. From what I've learned on the job and in school, this hotel is not being run properly at all. I suppose it is worth noting that I didn't actually spend a night in this hotel or anything like that, but I can only assume their bad work/ communication habits affect the quality of their services. The best part about this whole experience is that their job posting on indeed says they are still "desperately hiring", but they couldn't take two minutes to call a new employee (a new employee who wanted to make a career out of this job I might add) and tell them when their start date was.
