This is like the place to go in Ithaca if you are not hiking. We went on a trip and checked out the local night life. They have stores during the day but at night it get a bit quiet (we went during the week but during Halloween). Still very enjoyable!
It's hard to find car-free spaces in Upstate NY, and this is one of them. A great place for walking and hanging out.

Beautiful plantings but too linear. Some variation in the moveable planters would be welcome. At least this summer there is some tall eye-catching variety in flowers. Good job.

This weekend took a walk through The Commons in Ithaca NY. After enjoying a Brunch at College Town Beagle we walked The Commons and viewed some nice Ice Molds!

Love the commons more since they renovated. More space and very welcoming. Though I do miss the tall trees. Great place to shop local!

Cozy downtown. Very beautiful in winter but with few ways to walk.
Parking has always been a problem. A reputation for lack of safety sometimes seem true but mostly late evening. Lots of summer festivals. In winter it does offer a lot of popular restaurants.
Always interesting, never ordinary, watch out for overpricing, but there are deals to be had.

Ithaca Commons has always been a great pedestrian shopping village, and has always underwent continuous revitalization. Always exciting and upbeat with plenty to see and do, and with much foot traffic, this is a "must visit" when you are visiting or passing through this city.

Since moving away from Ithaca in 2007, I've defended the city countless times against lazy stereotypes such as "East Coasters are arrogant know it alls" and the like. Traveling the commons in casual ware with my family, I addressed 5 people with a "hello" and got zero responses. No matter what they do to overhaul the area, nothing can replace common courtesy. Also, it felt like it was trying to be Burlington, VT but lacked the heart to follow it through...again, design without heart is worthless.
Great potential but many shops are empty and not many cafes nor restaurants off of the main streets. You want people? You have to have shopping and bistros.
Nice walking Mall to stroll on. However, the price in the stores along the mall was rather high for most budgets. Don't expect a long walk. The mall is about two city blocks long.
Fresh food fast! There is a huge list (over 50 options) of bagels and cream cheese to choose from, as well as sandwiches, pastries and drinks too.
