Firstly, I want to say that From the Outside it looks quite decent, However when stepping foot in Reception it seemed quite lifeless and pretty dull,
Walking to our room the floor boards started creaking which is rather scary to be honest, it seemed quite run down and urgently needs a good upgrade asap.. then opening the door to the hallway of where my room was a damp and horrid smell flew straight to me, although it gets even worse.

Then arrived at the door when putting in the card to open it was quite hard I attempted it many times which assumed to me that it was a pretty old hotel,
The worst part was probably the rooms, the furniture was also very outdated unlike the pictures that were online and I thought it was quite of a let down, in the bath it was rusty and had mold and smelt damp.

The bed sheets didn t seem washed and I had seen many stains which was quite DISGUSTING, It was not clean at all, I know it says it s a 4 star but it Didn t even seem like one star..

Usually in hotels we get soaps in the bathroom but there was nothing to wash with and no gowns nothing only towels which is bizarre for a 4 star hotel

It was only okay becuase of the stains on the duvets, they also have extremely thin walls so you can hear everything. The costumer service is dreadful they dont seem like they want to work there. However it is beautifully placed right near the beach front the room size was amazing but the people were travelling with had a really tiny room.

DO NOT STAY HERE !! Waited ages to be served by one member of staff during a very busy period, then when got to my room, it was horrible, door is lose doesn't even look secure, there is like 2inch gap underneath the door so the room is very noisy, bathroom stinks revolting the room clearly has a damp problem and water stains all over the ceiling, asked to moved to another room even offers to pay to change as room was that bad, was told it was fully book which is hard to believe seeing as the internet still says rooms avalible, the man on reception didn't really seem that bothered, very very disappointing didn't expect much from the hotel but, would have a expected a baic well kept room.

Paid extra for sea view but room relatively small and noisy. Basic facilities and no biscuits with tea or coffee. Inside decor very sad with wallpaper falling off leaking ceilings. Breakfast very sad with no fresh fruit and watery juice. Only saving grace was the great freshly cooked poached eggs.

AVOID - This is a very run down hotel !!!
I can honestly say a premier inn or travel lodge is by far a better option.
i stayed at the hotel on the 28.07.2018 and was so very disapointed. on checking in there was another guest behind me who was complaining at how bad her room was and showed me a number of pictures she had taken on her phone. the carpets throughtout the hotel and very worn, the whole decor is of very poor quality. our room was also not much better, damaged taps, furniture that was all chipped and that you could tell required replacing. just an overall very run down hotel in need of complete restoration. PLEASE PLEASE AVOID !!!
AND NO ONE EVER CALLS YOU TO DISCUSS YOUR BAD STAY

Rubbish hotel. Three attempts to get a room that didn't have something wrong with it. Rude and unhelpful staff. Ridiculously bad signage and awful layout. No free WiFi. Small rooms. Hearing broken so had to resort to an electric heater that was noisy. Really would avoid. Unpleasant experience.

Everything was poor. Upon arrival, there was somebody elsein the room we were given, and we were downgraded in the process of getting another one. Then we found mud in the bathtub, and had to wait to have it cleaned. And during all that the staff was reluctantly helpful at best, downright dismissive at worst.

I booked a night at the hotel using a pre-paid gift voucher for myself and my partner. I booked our stay 2 months in advance. On the week before arrival I rang to confirm, they couldn't find the booking, so I got transferred to the head office. They made me confirm all my personal details and confirmed it was booked but I needed the voucher which I redeemed 2 months prior that I no longer had access to as it automatically expired and the hotel didn't sent a booking confirmation. I then had to ask my sister to ring up and email with proof of this as she gifted us the voucher, upon arrival a few days later and having ignored my sisters emails I was standing in reception for 20 mins, on hold to the head office confirming and passing over personal information as they had us booked under the wrong name. I had to tell them what date and time I booked my reservation which was more than two months ago as well as details of gifter. They then failed to mention certain facilities were going to be shut soon even though they told us what facilities those were, we would have used them if they didnt waste so much of our time, the food was also extremely poor quality. There are far better hotels to stay at.

We booked this hotel last minute and on arrival could not believe what we ended up with for our money. On arrival the staff were welcoming and helpful. Let us leave our bags and explore the town as we were early.
The room was clean and well equipped and we had a really good night's sleep.
The bar and food areas were lovely, big spaces with amazing period features throughout. We didn't eat here however, prices were really competitive and the food smelt incredible. Bar prices comparable to local pubs, not something you usually expect so a plus when relaxing at the end of the night.

Overall an absolutely wonderful experience and we will be back! Thank you to all involved

We stayed here just over a year ago and had a terrible stay. The reason the review is now is that I have given the hotel numerous chances to reply to my complaint and had nothing. I had had a knee operation and was in a wheel chair, so the room they gave us first off was up some stairs and then down some stairs with no lift to the rooms. We asked for a different room and had to wait over an hour to be shown another room that again needed stair access! Again we went back and was given a room that was too small to fit the electric wheelchair in. The 4th room was just about ok apart from the room view was looking out to what can only be described as a small enclosed roof that was full of piegen poo, the kettle had a crack in it, the bathroom was dirty and the room was dirty and falling apart. I will say the staff were very helpful at times. I would not look to stay here again, if I was you I would look to stay at the Premier Inn across the road.

Royal bath hotel, hotel nice, staff good if you or we could understand each other as not many English staff on duty, food ok plenty if you want, but always cold choice, none, organisation between kitchen and servers very poor, it is like a staff canteen you get what they give, result hotel good, food and service poor.

What I don't understand is how does this hotel have 4 stars ????
I took videos of the basement rooms that you wouldn't see in 2-star hotels in France
I prepare posts in several languages to distribute them
I was fooled via the 'Last minute' site I took a room in a 4-star hotel in Great Britain, please, and I found myself in an uninhabitable room, I refused to spend the night there. let spend the night with my wife in the great room both sitting on a chair
Be careful, so to avoid the hotel And last minute at the same time

You ll survive the stay, not so horrible as most people say. But could be so much more. Also make sure is sunny, so you can be at the beach or somewhere. If you have to stay in all day, am sure will feel like the Shining a bit.

Was bought here for my 30th with my family to celebrate for the weekend was a disaster.
First day they didn t get the rooms what my family had asked for after numerous emails and phone calls to the hotel these had been ignored.
My family was put on a different floor to us and we did not even get to enjoy this properly.
First morning breakfast was not even ready at 9am so many people waiting for food very bad service and such a limited amount of food and the excuse given was they didn t think so many people would be up at 9am.
we sat down for breakfast looked outside in the garden and police everywhere at least 50 in the reception 5 on each floor and the staff fails to tell us when we asked what s going on extremely scary to see so many police in a hotel like this and not be worried that s something major has happened.
Final night me and my sister went down to ask for water after suffering from really bad allergies at 3am.
Only 1 person at the reception desk and people who don t even belong to the hotel rushing inside and the on duty staff not able to do anything to stop them.
Me and my sister scared to death as they are drunk and had backpacks on could have had anything in there hands and they had just run in to the hotel and the staff could not find them.
This is the worst experience of my life I have never seen a hotel that has even been like this.
And to top all this off the rooms are full with dust.
The floors dirty shower taps broken windows broken can t even shut properly.
Balcony door does not even lock unsafe rooms.
And in room beverages being out of date.
The management is so poor and the staff are not helpful at all I would never recommend this hotel to anyone PLEASE PLEASE think twice before booking this place you will not get a refund.

This hotel has really gone to seed in a bad way. I remember going here in the 80s when it was really high class and you had to wear a tie to eat in the restaurant! Today I was sitting in the main bar having a cup of tea when a full scale punch up ensued. Maybe it was because of the horrendous loud semi live music they have here every night. Anyway, it was so bad that 2 police cars and 2 vans attended! The chairs in the bar are all stained, the carpets (which are the same as the ones they had decades ago) threadbare and stained with chewing gum marks, the staff are indifferent at best except the gym staff who are actually very helpful.

Don't expect the price you pay to be it. Extra for swimming drinks very expensive when others have 99p vouchers. Food very good. Place is very tired with floorboards creaking. Not a goodnight sleep to be had. Lift right by room and an alarm bell sounds everytime is stops. Parking is 20 pounds per night for valet or 10 pound per 24 hours a local car park next door. Some of the staff are rude others just ignore you. Full of idiots on a Saturday night with fight occurring at 2.30am. Lots of youngsters. Not my cup of tea if you want to relax on an evening. The experience is not one I wish to carry out again.

Better when it was a 5 star De Vere hotel. It still has a feel about of bygone days, could so with a revamp. The staff are lovely and helpful. Rooms are good. Pool facilities are good with sauna and steam room, plus small gym, etc. Nice place to be, gardens are nice and position is the best. Worth a visit to Russell Cootes museum. I believe that hotel residents get a special rate there.

I loved my room simply because it was spacious. I also had a beautiful view of the garden and the Sea. First hotel room in Bournemouth, I had seen with good room dressers and a large enough wardrobe that contained an ironing board, a fan and an iron. I was pleased. The hotel is quite old but I kind of loved that old English feel, I felt like I was living in an old English mansion.

However, I wasn t very pleased with the cleaning, it s something I have noticed with all Britannia hotels, even though fresh towels are provided, they hardly ever change the bed sheets, rather they just make the bed and move. I lost my sock in the sheets while sleeping, my room was serviced before I came back and I still found the sock in the same position even though the bed was made. I spent a total of 7 nights there and I can t ascertain if the sheets were changed yet my room was serviced everyday. I also disliked the fact that you have to pay to use the pool and also to pay for internet. Internet is however available for free for 30 and 20 minutes to be renewed continuously if you need to use it.

Nonetheless, proximity to the beach and town centre, the beautiful garden and spacious room has won me over. I loved taking beautiful pictures in and around the hotel so I ll be staying again. Maybe this time, I may try the food and use the pool as well.

Myself and my wife stayed at this hotel back in December during Xmas and NewYear. We did it on a Groupon deal. We always wanted to try this hotel, we had been there for drinks. The room we were given was shocking, no windows and right outside where the lift was. So noisy!! My wife was drying her hair before we went out and the chair she was sitting on collapsed, luckily she wasn t hurt, but she was a little shocked!! I went to reception to complain and the lady took my details and said the manager would be in touch, nothing ! Since then I have emailed HQ and the hotel? I have also phoned on numerous occasions and left messages, and nobody has called or emailed me back. SHOCKING!! I run a large organisation and I would never treat customers like this. If the hotel bothers to read this Review, look up Woodcock, we stayed on the 27th December. Terrible customer service, no wonder you are 3.2 on Google reviews, actually less now I have left a review.

Water extremely hot out of taps and shower be careful if taking children to stay here. There are signs warning you but are very small.
Everything seemed to be an effort from staff on reception. Food was poor tasted old, like it had been sat under a hot plate all day. Wouldn't stay here again.

The worst customer service ever! Ten days before our reservation I requested two adjoining rooms for my mother (85 with onset dementia) and my family and was assured that the rooms I had booked would be adjacent (crucial that my mother was able to reach us).
On check-in I was surprised to be given a room on the 1st and one on the eighth floor. Given our circumstances, this was totally unacceptable. The helpful reaction from the receptionist was a shrug.
Eventually, we were offered two rooms on the 8th floor through a series of corridors and stairs - with no lift! There is no way that my mother could have attempted this.
We were told (again by the receptionist who clearly should be in a less customer-facing role) that there was nothing else she could do and if we didn t like the rooms we didn t have to stay.
We were now extremely late for a family gathering celebrator dinner and with no accommodation for the evening. This was Pride weekend so there was little chance of finding rooms elsewhere.
We were left with no alternative but to arrive extremely late for the birthday dinner and leave early so that we could ensure my mother was home at a reasonable time.
The rooms that were offered were rooms with no windows and a plastic skylight that doesn't open. The rooms were stifling with no air (or fan!) and it was 32 degrees outside. This cannot be legal or within health and safety guidelines.
Overall the most deceivingly dreadful hotel. What a shame that such a beautiful building and landmark is nothing more than a doss house.

Asked for my room to be cleaned and for my toilet to be unblocked. They said they wouldn't clean it until I left that the rules. Had to sleep with a block toilet for 4 days. Then the cheek of them saying I was banned because I left the room very bad. Really disgusted with manger there. He is also living in the hotel with his whole family and treating like his own house. Disgusting.

This place is appalling. I used to live in Bournemouth for years, so to come back for a visit and be able to stay in one of Bournemouth's most iconic hotels should have been exciting.
We were shoved in a small dingy room with no window and no heating/cooling, situated down endless corridors with minimal signage. Parking is a whopping 25 quid a day and is on a first-come-first-served basis. The whole hotel requires maintenance and updating. Really disappointed for such an iconic hotel in a prime location.

Hello if I could give half a star, internet there is no parking not everything in the old rooms there is no shampoo, soap, very thin windows it sounds the same and the walls sound like you would be outside when we stayed no one said that we have to pay for breakfast when we went in one morning to have breakfast we were told from the restaurant that we have to pay at the reception when we went there I came across a gentleman from the security I think and told us that there are no more places in a very aggressive restaurant, the child was scared of how the gentleman addressed himself, so what is written on their site, nothing is like that, they are just small things.

Standard Brittania fare and a bit shabby around the edges. Not sure how much work spent on accommodation, but my room seems like it's in the servants quarter and has a pigeon's nest outside my window! The plus side is that it has nice gardens and is by the sea. Second visit, but poorer experience.

This hotel is an absolute disgrace! Was booked for our first wedding anniversary weekend so should of been a enjoyable time but I can assure you it was not when we arrived at the hotel.

After finding another hotel in Bournemouth I demanded a refund to be passed over to the manager on duty that day who informed me this could not be given back to me in the cash I had paid for even though it was still sat in the receptionists drawer!
Clearly customer service training is not something this hotel take pride in as the managers attitude was appalling and damn right rude!
Three days later and I m still waiting for the money to be put back into my account!
Please if you read this review do not waste your time worth this hotel in my opinion it should be shut down!!

Scariest night of my life! Me and my partner stayed here as we went to see a show just over the road. Rooms were a little dirty and we got lost going to the room but all was ok. After we got back from the show is when things started to get very scary. A man was walking around the hotel very oddly and kept stopping and staring at me, this happened on our way outside for a smoke in which he followed us outside and started singing religious songs. We went to go back in and he followed us in, we stopped at reception to ask if we could get a drink, there was a man and foreign women checking in, the woman looked visually distressed and the man answered all questions for her. Walking back to our room the staring man appears again stops glares at me and started following us to our room we shut the door and barricaded the door, for the next two hours this man walked past up and down the hall way by our door (we knew that as the light kept coming on outside) we were staying in the corner of the hotel, out the way down a dead end hall and were too scared to leave the room. DO NOT STAY HERE. EVER.

Horrible Hotel and even worse staff!! The Manager was even worse. They originally put us in a room with no windows and in the basement, even though we paid for a room with a view, the access to the room was terrible and my friend almost felt.
When we complain, didn't even get an apology.
The pool was closed and we didn't have any warning.
TV wasn't working properly, the hotel is dirty and old. I'll not stay here ever again.
Don't recommend!!
