Tattered remnants of Denton County Electric, a once robust and financially sound REA cooperative driven into bankruptcy by a former manager with dreams of becoming the next T. Boone Pickens. He took the utility out of the REA in order to use it as collateral for bank loans to fund real estate misadventures and other follies unrelated to energy. Efforts have since been made by some of his syncopates to whitewash the whole affair and restore reputations via public speaking and carefully choreographed YouTube videos.

Customer Service isn t the problem.

They should call a customer or inform them if abnormal power is being used. Had no idea I had an issue until I received a $500+ bill in the mail.

They helped me figure out what it was, but when someone s bill DOUBLES randomly they should say something. They re the same as any major business and they love taking your money over helping you save it.

I'm very angry at CoServ. After we sold our house in Texas, apparently there was a remaining balance. For 18 months, NOT ONE PERSON from CoServ has called to try and let us know or send me a bill (they obviously know my cell phone because the collection agency that they sent my debt to knew it!!). I called their customer service and NOT ONE PERSON has called me back. How can I pay a bill if I do not know about it!!!! Really bad customer service.

They are one of the worst electric companies I ve used from high prices & inability to track properly to bad guest services. And after everything was finally done, I got a bill for $137! For what! Breathing? Reliant is a much better company to go with if you can. Unfortunately CoServ seems to be a monopoly in most apartments, it s them or no one.

I just happened to notice terrible reviews and wanted to put in my two cents...I have never had a better electric company. We have used this provider since 2014, and its been a great experience. Consistent service, quick response for outages, and excellent customer service. The price is reasonable.

This company has so much Game! Went from using an average of 999-1200 per month to 17,000 kw per month. They are basically saying my house size, and how many people they think that is in my household, plus coserv is charging us for the power grid blackout. So can we all contact the public utilities commission in Austin Texas

Spent an hour on the phone talking to both a regular customer service rep and a supervisor and completed wasted my time.

My bill cycle was Aug. 6th through Sep8th. I moved out Aug 20th into a new home and no one was at my apartment from the 21st onward until Sep 15 which was out cut off date.

They couldn't explain to me how my bill was exactly the same as the previous month when I was living there, compared to the next billing cycle when I was not living there for 17 of those 33 days. They just kept telling me it is what is is and something was drawing electricity. I explained that no one was there, nothing was there to be drawing electricity other than the A/C which was the same last month. It was a constant. With the A/C being the same, but no lights, no laundry, no kitchen appliances, nothing being used. How is it the same?

Just kept getting told well it's a smart meter and it checks every 15 mins. Well yeah, how often do you service those meters? It's electronics, is it possible it's faulty? No answer, no response to that.

We went through usage comparisons for my last billing cycle of Sept 8th through the 15th and that billing cycle was $8. The same as the days we weren't there, but it was still higher for the days we weren't there.

Very disappointed.

When I see CoServ's abysmal ratings online the first thing I think is: "Oh, other energy companies probably also have really bad reviews." But nope. People actually seem to be happy with TXU, Reliant, Oncor, even Green Mountain. CoServ is the outlier. Which is odd because it's a "co-op-" company. As of writing, CoServ has 2.2 stars on Google which is double what they should have. They're pretty expensive, for starters (though at my smaller previous apartment Green Mountain was even more expensive) but the real big issue is with them being the only option for a lot of people in other areas, not just mine. So they get away with charging whatever they want. Including connection fees, absurdly high reconnection fees - because apparently flipping a switch is SO hard and the person doing it needs to be compensated $100 - and I'm not the only person here who will tell you they don't give you a notice beforehand. Their broken system isn't very good at telling you when or if payments go through or anything like that but why would it? Late fees make them money. Also, they post private information PUBLICLY to some responses on Google regarding the person who wrote that specific review, so I'm writing this from an account that doesn't use my real name. Little bit creepy on their end. Looking forward to the generic "Hi please contact us as to how we can better serve you" response

They don't have the absolute lowest rates, but its not exspensive either. I keep my AC on 72f during the say and 65f at night during the summer, and my bill hasn't hit $250 yet. Also, when the winter storm hit and everyone lost their power, ours stayed on the whole time. The customer service people actually answer the phones, no automation or long waits. As I said, so far, it's been fine. No issues
