In today s day and age, in the climate we live in. Nobody feels really safe, however we expect that entering a hospital there should be some kind of security. Well, not in this hospital. I just left from visiting my friend. I walked right up the front entrance there was nobody there. I went up the elevators right to her room and not one person saw me or even knew I was there.
Patients are vulnerable. They are sick, in pain, some can t even get up never mind defend themselves if somebody tries to do them harm.
I am outraged by this lack of security. By this lack of interest in the patients well being!!
You are inviting strangers to your hospital. Anybody can walk in on a sleeping patient, like I did. My friend was sleeping when I got there. Unsuspecting and expecting some degree of security which was non existent. Shame, shame on you Community Medical Center!!!

Been Sitting here for over 2 hrs in the waiting room for me and my girlfriend and still have not been seen.

3 people have been seen before us that arrived way after we came. This hospital is terrible and I promise to never come back again.

Review from just from ER experience. First I have to say that the doctor was very nice as were the nurses who took care of us. However, that is where the good ends. There were supposedly only 4 people ahead of us, well almost 3 hours later, and multiple people taken before us that walked in much later, we were finally put in a room. I get if there is a real urgent emergency or a little kid, for them to bump us, but I'm talking people with sprains, and things on the level of insect bites going first. We were there almost 8 hours in all, huge gaps in making us wait for different things, place seemed severely understaffed, as many times I went to look for a nurse and the desk was vacant for at least 10 minute periods of time. Maybe an off night, but my wife and I decided that if we ever have to visit an ER again that it's no less risky to just drive the extra 30 or so minutes up to Monmouth Medical Center than it is to try to get treated here.

I was there on May17 for same day surgery . However due to me being in a very drowsy state I had to stay overnight. When I tell bad service I got bad service. Was not served meal at breakfast. Was not offered so much as a cup of coffee . The young lady from dietary brought the other patient her meal looked at me and didn't say two words. Nursing staff never checked to see if I even ate. As a CNA I find this treatment unacceptable. Was treated as if I was nothing .

83 year old mother with advanced MS brought to ER at 2 pm with severe cough, rib pain, and unable to eat or drink for 48 hours. While waiting in the cold waiting area she was intermittently called for an ekg, chest x-ray, and blood work. At 8 pm she was brought back to a bed surrounded by mentally challenged sick people. They did not hydrate her or even put in an IV. At 10 pm they did a step test (!) and she fell asleep. Sometime after 7 am they put her in a room, still no IV or promised breathing treatment or food or water. Finally they gave her food and now they are moving her because this is an "overflow " unit and they are shutting it down. If I could transfer her somewhere else I would. Not the fault of the nurses...they are overworked and understaffed. But this is shameful and despicable.

I came to Community Medical Center on 11/18 for a same day surgical repair of a broken bone in my foot. I was very apprehensive coming here because I knew the bad reputation the hospital had. I was wrong. From the people at the registration desk all the way through to the nurses in recovery I was treated with kindness, compassion and excellent care. Each person I had contact with took their time to explain things fully and answer any questions or concerns I had. I cant speak for any other part of the hospital but if you need same day surgery please don't hesitate to come here. Thank you to everyone who helped me during my time at Community. You were all wonderful!!

I have to say that I am a bit disappointed to see all of the negative comments for Community Medical Center. My children and I were all born in this hospital. On Christmas day 2016 the emergency room staff saved my dad's life when he flatlined from a stroke. The doctors and nurses as well as other staff have great and he is getting better daily. I do hope that CMC does something so that everyone can have a positive experience as my family has had.

My wife took me to Community on April 30, 2015 with respiratory problems and passing out while coughing. She asked for someone to listen to my chest and was told we will take care of him. We sat in the waiting area and watched non-urgent case after case arrive after me and being treated ahead of me. Strike three was at the 2 hour mark when a girl complaining of a sore foot came in and was immediately taken in for treatment. She was walking on the foot! We and another patient left in dispair. Community, your 2 star rating on this site is way too generous.

Scheduled at this hospital for a simple DNC. This is a same day procedure. Was anestitized with Propofol. Expected to wake up a couple of hours later. I woke up the next morning in ICU! Apparently, the procedure went well, but when they tried to pull out the breathing tube both of my lungs filled up with fluid and I had to be put on a respiratory machine. I was out for the entire ordeal, which speaks to the efficacy of Propofol. My poor husband was beside himself thinking he was going to lose his wife during a DNC (WHAAAT!). I will never return to this hospital again!!! Don't bring your loved ones here!!!

My father has been here twice in the past month. ...

My father has been here twice in the past month. Both due to emergency issues. He taught me to be a patient and humble man but the atrocity that is Community is beyond anything I care to keep quiet about.

This hospital is an awful combination of incompetence and understaffing. The incompetence is from upper management allowing their staff to dwindle to a point where people who really need immediate care suffer. You can hear it in every nurses voice. They are overwhelmed. These are amazing folks that cannot help leaving these patients untended.

They end up being rushed and the finer details that would otherwise increase the quality of stay for the patient are left behind. My father would sit in pain for hours. Ignorant of what treatments were happening and or when they were happening. He thought he was dying because nobody could tell him what was going on. It wasn't until we aggressively demanded answers from head nurses that they gave us some idea of how they were planning on proceeding.

Barnabas should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen. I don't know anyone that would recommend this place. If you've ever had the unfortunate circumstance if needing to go to a Meridian hospital like JSUMC or Riverview, you'd see really quick why they come highly recommended.

I hope they get their act together. The community needs them. Their overworked employees deserve better.

I wish there was an option for ZERO STARS because I would select that. This is, by far, one of the WORST hospitals in the state of NJ. It should not even be your last resort. The radiology department, specifically, has no clue what they are doing. I am a nurse at an office close by and I am constantly getting patients who were sent home stating they were Okay and than when we review there reports, they are completely abnormal! I URGE YOU AS A HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL TO GO ELSEWHERE IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF MEDICAL CARE! YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE IT AT THIS HOSPITAL!

I went to this wonderful little hospital when I had a bad flu, a few months before my Medicare started, so I had no insurance. Everyone treated me VERY well!!! The nurses, both at intake and inside at the examination rooms , were polite and efficient!! They did an EKG, Chest X-Ray, and a very nice Doctor examined me and wrote me perscriptions for Antibiotics, Cough Medicine and Decongestants!!! I felt better quickly and was very grateful for their efficient care!!!! I live in Toms River and I'm glad we have such a nice hospital right here in town!!!!!

I have a baby, my boyfriend and i took her to community medical center. Not once but THREE times. they ignored my daughters medical needs when i KNEW something was wrong with my daughter when she was breathing. well the last time we went they where completely clueless and gave my daughter who is one years old a zofran and SENT us home. monday i take her to her pedi doctor and they end up putting her on a pulse ox to find her oxygen level to be low they told me i have to take her to jersey shore. So i did and not even FIVE minutes being there my daughter is admitted with oxygen and A iv in her arm. Then put in isolation because they failed to TEST my daughter for RSV when it was positive. So i highly recommend not to bring children to community medical center they look at the kids and say they are okay and because of them not doing whats right for my daughter she was hospitalized for three days!!
Hands down the WORST hospital. only go there for stitches!!

Very disappointed! To tell someone that nothing is wrong with them and for them to suffer in pain for two days and then to go get a second opinion at another hospital and find out they had an infection. That's terrible they could of caught that and but nope all they did was look at it and say Oh it's just tender nothing is wrong it will be fine! Well hopefully I never have to go there again. I rather travel 30mins out of my way to go somewhere else!

This hospital unfortunately, is the closest to my house. Some of the nurses are great, and some are horrible. Most of the doctors suck and have absolutely no bedside manner. They rush in, say what they have to say and leave... they don't leave any time for questions. My mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2004, and one of the nurses gave her the wrong medication, causing her to hallucinate and have an irregular heartbeat. I would much rather drive the extra 20 minutes out of my way to go to Kimball.

Terrible experience involving my 92 year old father...my father was given an incorrect milligram strength on a critical medication...5 mg versus 0.5 mg....they ignored/misread the decimal point! He had major pain as a result of this increased dosage...they never questioned or checked him as to why he had additional pain...after having carotid artery surgery he was discharged from the hospital in less than 24 hours by a covering doctor who did not examine him thoroughly..unfortunately he had the start of double pneumonia and landed back in the emergency room in less than three days! Choose a different hospital!!

1. Poor interdepartmental communication regarding patient testing, condition and congruency of results that can affect other testing sequences.
2. Patients are left on the gurney in the hall to wait for transport.
3. Obvious attention is needed to improve the cleanliness of the facility. Elevator doors close on patients between the elevator and the hallway. Vent registers are rusted. Sink drains do not drain freely; allowing for potential bacteria spread.
4. Hospital security procedures at the entrance points are sophomoric and accountability is non-existent.

Such a bad experience here! Take the longer drive ...

Such a bad experience here! Take the longer drive and go elsewhere. I went in early around 330am on Friday Jan 19. Let's start off with 2 different nurses blew out my veins 3 times to start an IV. They blamed it on my veins(of course). I have NEVER had anyone have trouble starting an IV on me. Anyway they call in a 3rd nurse the 2 other nurses leave the room. This 3rd nurse started IV on the first try and she said that was easy!
The Doctor was nice but not very knowledgeable. She just ran the basic blood and urine work on me. I told her I have NEVER had this type of pain without running any further testing or imaging. I'm given liquid medicine that is suppose to coat my stomach. After taking it not too long later, the doctor comes in and asks me if it helped I tell her no because it really didn't help. I was still hurting. She tells me it's my stomach and sounds like a reflux problem. I get Pepcid electronically sent over to my pharmacy and discharged. As I was being discharged she did mention my ketones in my urine were high.
Anyway I begin to get worse and later on that day, my husband rushed me to the hospital(a different one). I was passing out, shaking, vomited and severe flank pain. We get to other hospital I was rushed in put on fluids and etc... The other hospital did more extensive bloodwork and even imaging because the basic was within normal except the ketones in urine. Come to find out I'm having bad blood sugar problems and I was in pain because of hypoglycemia(Which makes sense because both my parents have glucose issues and are diabetic). If my husband wasn't home I could have died or went into a coma I was told!
My opinion is everyone in the ER department including doctor needs to be retrained by someone VERY experienced and than need to be tested before being allowed back on the floor. This sounds drastic, maybe mean and brutally honest but after my experience and now reading all the horrible reviews SO MANY lives have been put at risk from negligent care. It's time to get it together before people start throwing lawsuits that way.........

If I could give this hospital zero stars I would. They wouldnt dress my wound when I got there because they said "they dont do that on this floor" so I sat with a bloody arm for 12 hours straight. I think about 4 hours went by without anyone coming to check up on me or give me an update. If my leg was amputated and I had 3 hours to live I still wouldnt go to this hospital I would rather just take my chances and go somewhere else. It was an absolutely atrocious experience. Some of the staff was extremely rude and they didnt make the patients wear masks. One girl next to me asked if she needed one and they said "Nah you dont really need it" I literally have never written a review for anything in my life but this hospital is so disgraceful that I had to say something about it. Was hands down one of the worst experiences I've ever had.

On Tuesday late afternoon my wife and I had to bring our daughter into the ER because of some issues she has been dealing with, she did not feel well. I dropped my family off to park and they were greeted by a nurse Dominic who was wonderful, he did an assessment and quickly got us to a room to be seen by a Doctor. During our stay my daughter was taken care of by Doctor Christoper Blum. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Blum and his care he gave to our daughter. He came in many time times to check on her and each time took the time to answer all of our question. Everyone from Nursing, Registration, and Dr. Blum were so very nice and caring. At the end of our stay we returned home with my daughter feeling better knowing she received the best care by a wonderful group of professionals.

My daughter arrived by ambulance from a horrific car accident. Once I arrived and asked for directions to room 11, I was told it was next to room 10. Seriously!!!!! He's going to joke around at a time I needed to get to my daughter!! The evening continued to go down hill from there. She never was checked for a concussion, wasn't given the device to call a nurse for an emergency, and was left in the room unattended for close to an hour still taped to the portable mat that the EMT brought her in on. She finally had to yell for help as the nurse was passing by. Her vitals were never taken until she was being discharged. My daughter had to ask if she could take something to relieve the pain. It was only after my daughter's reminder that she finally got something. The doctor accidentally left her phone in the room which was constantly going off. After her scans were taken she was discharged without a script to relieve pain until it was requested. We were given no information on her injuries or how to take care of her. This was an awful experience and I wouldn't even give it a one star rating!

Having dealt with CMC for my mother, the care she received was phenomenal. During the COVID crisis, she was cared for with compassion and skill. The staff kept me informed every step of the way. Although she passed in June this year, the kindness will remain with me. I myself was admitted this past Monday and the doctors and nurses from the ER to the floor nurses were wonderful. No complaints. I can remember what it used to be like. It has improved by leaps and bounds.

My father has been in the ICU all weekend and didn't see a single specialist till Tuesday today which was just a PT doctor. While everyone in the ICU seems helpful, it appears to be a terrible waste of resources to keep someone in the ICU for three days without seeing a specialist, not the mention the private cost he will be responsible for. This also caused an issue with diagnosing what went wrong, we have been told many different "theories" but without doctors actually seeing him and contacting us, we have no idea what is really wrong on day five.

Taking off another star, we are at day seven, still haven't heard from a single doctor. They have him listed as self pay even though we have them insurance card, and the case manager refuses to speak to anyone about the case. Now we are going to the unit and hospital directors.

Spent four days in this hospital, chest pains and dizziness, They were all amazing. I was tested from head to toe! Nurses are AWESOME, food not so good, level of care was Five Star.. Was very happy they allowed my husband to visit all day (was concerned that would not be possible due to covid). Now my Uncle is in there critical with Covid and the doctors and nurses are calling me every day with updates, all very caring and understanding of our concern. GREAT HOSPITAL..GREAT STAFF!!! Only one thing I would recommend. They should sanitize the rooms everyday!!! At least once if not more.

I'm sure there is a way a professional can get that accomplished rather than slam them to the ground and kneel on their head for non compliance. That is called a bouncer at a bar not a security guard. He is on blood thinners and you could have killed him! YOU ARE A DISGRACE!!!!!

My wife was having surgery this morning. My self and my son were in the waiting room. we were asked to leave and not sit there. So we went out side in the rain. Mind you that I have a heart condition. I have a defibrillator and pacemaker and here I am in the rain. No one was in the waiting room but us. Any reason why??? I am pleased to say that after a fed hours after I posted I received a phone. It seems that there was concern about me and my son being asked to leave the waiting room. I was impressed there are people that try very hard. Thank you for the concern very much.

Dehumanizing in a nutshell. Went for colonoscopy and was treated in a way that I am embarrassed to even describe, however, my doctor's office was given ALL of the details.. The doctor was fabulous. The staff . . . deplorable. Needless to say, I DO NOT recommend Community Medical Center for any purpose. No wonder some doctors in the area call it Community "Miracle" Center. Obviously indicating that it will be a miracle if you survive. Just don't go there if you have a choice.

My father in law has been here since October 23rd after a traumatic fall. He has been shuffled to SO many rooms and waited for WAY TOO LONG to receive pain medication and nausea medication. They are now preparing to discharge him. He waited all day for a PT to show up today. Lots of people asking how things are but not really doing much besides giving us a parking pass. While trying to sleep, his iv beeped for over 10 minutes. 3 people came in to say they would "get the nurse" They moved him today to ANOTHER room due to the unit moving. We are disgusted! Now they are planning on putting him in a nursing home for Rehab as "there are no beds anywhere and he is too much care"
No one really seems to be an advocate for him! Terrible experience for him and our family!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having just left floor 3 after spending a lot of time with my dad there, I can suggest if you have the opportunity , go to another hospital. No interaction with doctors or nurses. Definitely don t go on the weekend. The info boards in the rooms are updated maybe, if they get to it. Your just a number here and nothing more. I would post pictures of the same bandage with old blood that haven t been touched , but will not in fear of reprisal. He s still a patient. The alarms on the monitors go on for awhile, so get use to it. Nurses are great but over whelmed. Ok not bitter just stating the real facts.

Took my wife here last week after she almost fell after a shower, had double vision then a headache. As soon as we got into the emergency room someone walked up and admitted her right away, I was impressed by how fast they did it, overall it was a great visit, everything was fine

If I could give it no stars, I would.

If I could give it no stars, I would.

A family member waited 3 days for an MRI. Neurologist never came and the doctor said "I THINK it's...but you should 100% follow up with your neurologist."

This hospital is a joke. It should be shut down

During my most recent trip to the emergency room the staff was very kind and considerate towards me and my family. Since I was unable to drive myself to the hospital my husband had to, which involved dragging our 2 very young children along at 5 am. They were waiting for me in the waiting room when a very belligerent and drunk man stumbled in. The front desk staff immediately had my husband and children brought back to where I was. Then about 30 minutes later they moved all of us into a more private room because they were getting a very "scary" (for the kids) patient in and didn't want to scare them. At some point a nurse brought each child a big bag with coloring books, crayons and toys for them to keep. The doctors and nurses were very polite and I felt did a tremendous job considering the state I was in. A huge thank you for all the kindness shown to us.

I arrived at this facilty with my wife who is in severe pain at 8 pm. We waited in the waiting room till 11:46 pm. They finally took her back and gave her a bed. At this time she was crying in pain till 12:40 pm till someone came in and informed her that is was possibly a cracked rib that they might have missed when she was operated on here 2 months ago, the doctor ordered an x Ray and left, still no relief for her pain. The next person was a nurse who registered her and brought it to our attention that we still owe 126 dollar co pay from said operation, it is now 12:55 am, she is still in severe pain and it seems to me that no one cares, I don't get it and you don't have to either, if I can help one person my advice is STAY AWAY, God Bless.

Absolutely terrible hospital I've been a few times and the wait is forever you could die waiting to be seen. the doctors don't seem very caring and its no wonder the emergency is so slow all I see is the nurses standing around yacking with each other about nothing I saw a man bleeding from the head and they still had him waiting to be seen and security please some years ago I actually had a friend killed in this hospital because he refused treatment they tried to force him to stay and wound up slamming him on the floor hitting his head and killed him will never go here again and anybody reading stay away from here

I only give a 2 because prior to my surgery, I was impressed with procedures, pre-op test ease and professionalism. The day of my surgery was my worst experience in a NJ hospital. I have personal over my 51 years had surgery in JFK Edison NJ, RWJ New Brunswick NJ, & 2 babies in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune NJ. I have seen & sat through many family members having operations at these hospitals...& others & this was the worst care I was ever given. I had bariatric surgery, they have an entire are for bariatric surgery on the 3rd floor, catering to the needs of larger persons. I myself was only 240...not by any means a size that can't sit in regular size beds & wheel chairs. My prep before surgery left something to be desired...Sara my nurse seemed concerned with the basics of a blood test & iv. I have big strong veins that you see & feel. BUT THAT IS NOTHING....when I was JUST REMOVED from the recovery, as we arrive at my room door. They informed me....the gurney wouldn't fit through the door & I was going to have to walk the 20 ft. to my bed!!!! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE...IM ON A FLOOR WHERE THINGS ARE MADE TO ACCOMMODATE PEOPLE WHO ARE REALLY OBESE....& I
WAS NOT EVEN ON AN OVER SIZED GURNEY!! No one put their hands under my arms to take the bulk of my weight....my core had 6 punctures in it 4 of the an inch to inch & a half....most of my stomach was just cut away & removed.....so lifting my body off one bed to another with really just my hand being held was a HORROR....THE PAIN WAS BIZARRE, I WAS MAKING ANIMAL NOISES....the bed they put me in was not lowered for me to get in...it was seated so far up my feet pushed against the bottom of the bed my entire stay. It was a dark green rubber mattress, cheap & so uncomfortable like something you would camp on. Nobody came & checked on me for 2 hours till I asked my fiance if it seemed really odd that no one had checked on me & I buzzed for more pain med. I was so stunned by all of this I even carefully and politely asked my nurse Ed if this was common place. I was the last patient at the end of the hall & felt that might have something to do with it. It wasn't until 2 other nurses came in the evening....Mary & I believe, Meredith...that I felt I was being "cared for & watched over. My Dr. Did everything right on his end & the female anesthesiologist who works with Dr. Park came to check on me....it was the after care that was terrifyingly lacking. I was so frightened for my fiance to leave after evening visiting hours....I requested something for anxiety from my doctor. Which he okayed. When my surgeon came the next afternoon.....I jumped at the chance to leave. I have 4 other friends who have had this surgery over 5 years....every one of them stayed longer than me in the hospital......I felt safer & more cared for at home with just my fiance & teenagers than on that 3rd floor bariatric recovery wing. What a painful and terrifying experience!

This hospital is pathetic, this is the only establishment that is taking care of the Toms River area and it receives a grade of C for poor communication, lack of safety and lack of care for infections. That's terrific N.J., keep up the poor work eventually the old and young will die off I Toms River, if not by this, but with poisonous ground water as well. At least the Mathis bridge will be completed. Hey everyone wake the F@#% up already!!!!!!!!!!!

Homeless man dies after being sent out on November...

Homeless man dies after being sent out on November 17th by Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey. He died of dehydration and depression in the woods behind Bayville Shoprite covered by cardboard box. He was sixty-four years old and apparently had no hope. This is truly a tragic end to a man's life. He was someones son, someones brother, or someones father, turned away by Community Medical Center to die in the woods without the dignity and decency which he deserved. We ask the hospital staff and local human services what will they do for him now?

My mother has been admitted a couple of times over the past couple of years and my main complaint is the lack of communication between the doctors and the nurses and other staff members. If one more doctor came in and asked us what the results of a test that was performed at their hospital was, I was going to scream! So frustrating ~ please someone come up with a better way to have ONE unified place for patient information.

My father is 80 years old...scheduled for a cardiac cath between 9 and 9:30...fasting since midnight...no communication with me about why we sat here for hours....now I'm told he going in at 1 pm....this hospital will never change...I didn't want him to come here would have rather gone to Brick....this hospital needs a major overhaul in how to deal with patients ...if you have an option DO NOT come to Community Hispital in Toms River NJ...you'll be much better off at Brick Hispital or Jrrsey Shore.

I feel if a complaint is made an apology should also be posted if required...unfortunately I had some bad info and based my post on that...to correct my comments we should not have been given a time since the doctor never issued a time frame for the procedure...I was upset based on what I thought...my father has been treated exceptionally and all the nurses and admin staff have been wonderful...sorry for flying off the handle I just care deeply about my father and was upset.

My husband and I had brought my son at 2am because his cough didn't sound right. Everyone was very nice and so helpful. We were in and out of there so quickly. My son had croup and was given a steroid treatment and prescribed medication. I was beyond pleased with our visit!!

I has told I could stay with my fiancee over night after she had surgery because I was a Male. The nurse said it was the rule of the floor after someone was attacked. I will take this further. Just because I'm a male doesn't make me a threat.

Well, over the last 20+ years not much has changed in terms of efficiency or customer service. I can remember going there as a kid and waiting 6+ hours in the emergency room department for treatment. Last night was no different when my grandmother was brought in a 4pm via ambulance. When I arrived at 5:30p, no one had still been in to see her. Shortly after a nurse came in to draw blood, at which she left bedside and said someone would be by to get it. Well... for those who aren't in the medical field, blood coagulates when its just left to sit. It sat there for 2 more hours. You can only guess what happened next. Yes, the blood needed to be redrawn. Change of shift was 7pm. At which time we waited and by the time I left at 10pm and NO ONE was in to see her. Place is the epitome of CRAP!!! If you want to die... check in!!!

Understaffed! Nurses try, but their workload is unreasonable! Emergency room did not have a doctor available. A nurse had to do triage and I had to wait over an hour for a doctor. People are not their problem. Management is! We have started to use doctors who are attached to Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Now that's a hospital !

The seen me with in a reasonable amount of time with people in there for the flu. I went in for a severe infection in my wrist. I was seen by a Dr. and see said she had to go in and clean out the infection. It hurt when she stuck in the hose to suck out the infection. But they treated me and did a great job.

I was there for a test recently at the infusion department. The wait time was a little bit longer than my scheduled time but not unreasonable. My RN Lucy was wonderful and attentive. Natalya was sent from the Laboratory to draw blood. It has to be done three times for the test i was having. She a was awesome. I didn't feel any discomfort. I usually bruise easily and they usually have problems finding a good vein. Not Natalya! Thank you to both of them! Since I don't like hospitals, I appreciate them.
