One of the most beautiful hotels in SF, but rooms are a little dated.
One of the most beautiful hotels in SF, but rooms are a little dated.
Beautiful interior, rich history, charming atmosphere, cheerful staff, I will never forget it!
Unfortunately the hotel makes more money from Holiday parties this time of year and we got to enjoy 10 or so drunk 40 and 50 year olds jamming to Christmas songs at 3am in the morning on the 8th floor.
The Fairmont never fails to delight with the highest quality of service, beautiful rooms and one of the best views in the city. We just stayed for a weekend on my 50th birthday and the front desk clerk was more than happy to give us a room with an upgraded view of Coit Tower and Alcatraz in the Bay. We stayed in one of the newer Tower rooms which was absolutely gorgeous with a Marble shower and separate tub. Beautiful fixtures and very nice appointments and framed photos throughout. One of the few complaints I have could be the parking. Valet is $18 an hour which comes to $72 for an overnight stay but there is a public parking garage directly across the street that is substantially less expensive at $40 per night that is open 24 hours so that you can park as well as get your car whenever you need. With public transportation like the Muni bus system as well as Uber and Lyft there really is no reason to drive your own car during your visit. Its a short walk (downhill) to China Town and several lines of the famous cable cars run directly outside the hotel and in fact that's one of the best ways to see the city. The Fairmont is always one of the best places to stay in one of the best cities in the world and is highly recommended by this reviewer.
Absolutely gorgeous hotel with a top class lobby. Every corner screams luxury, with great staff to assist you. There is some Hollywood history with this hotel, all about it if you're not aware. Rooms are good, and be sure to grab tea in the lobby. Pro tip - there is a great Tiki bar right downstairs in the hotel building. If you're visiting check it out!
Beautiful, high end, top notch service, great venue!
Over priced, over rated and service was not great for the price!
Almost a perfect place. Recently very unhappy with food order. I was comped. The top notch beef on the menu was certainly not the cut that was served to me.
Visited the tonga room inside the Fairmont hotel for a birthday party. Cover charge for entry was double what the usual cover charge at specialty bars were. And so was the price of food and drink.
-Location: Very nice on the hill of downtown SF, surrounded by other great hotels & a nice environment. Also, other stores, restaurants, & places are in reach within a few minutes.
-Hotel Lobby: Since I went there during the winter holidays, Christmas decorations were all over. A very nice Christmas tree, lights, etc. Also, a gingerbread house was made for kids to walk thru with amazing decor. All in all, worth just visiting.
I was here for a college alumni event (not as an overnight guest). It was in The Pavilion Room, which is nicely decorated. The catered food and drinks were good. The main problem with events at this hotel is the parking situation. There aren't many options in the area, so they're all pretty expensive.
Stayed here for a small conference. Views are spectacular from the 24th floor. I think it's a great hotel and brings you back to a simpler time but with an updated technical support. WiFi is good, bathrooms were great, and lots of history around the hotel. The staff was always polite, friendly and super helpful.
Very beautiful hotel, and the giant gingerbread house was really cool to see during Christmas time!
I went to the Tonga Room for drinks. Drinks were a little pricey, but not too sugary. The ambience was amazing.
This is a fairly large hotel.
There are various facilities in the basement
Let's explore
Our room smelled of smoke
When we checked in. Poor quality control with housekeeping.
I love the outside of the Fairmont which is all I saw during my nob hill visit. Location services must have gotten my location wrong when they asked me to rate my hotel. I was across the street at the Intercontinental Mark. Good job map locator thingie!
Very nice! In a great location, beautiful, wonderful service. It was the perfect place to stay!
Words can not describe how good my time was here. This hotel and the trip i was one will go down as one on my fondest memories. Fairmount perfectly captures the feel of san Francisco by have a classy yet modern feel to it. The room service was incredible, like i got a cheese player and roses! What other hotel cares enough to do that. If you are visiting san Francisco and need a place to stay, pick the Fairmount because it your treated as royalty.
Visited the Tonga Room restaurant. Great atmosphere, good service, good food, but pricey menu. Definitely recommend if you haven't been before. Extensive list of tiki drinks. Will definitely go back for the bar seating.
Classic hotel built around time of the great earthquake. Beautiful public spaces. Lots of historical pictures including many presidents that stayed here. Restaurant was pretty good also, a bit on the expensive side but hey, its san francisco
My husband and I came to the Fairmont for our 10th anniversary , but is over rated, over priced for what is offered not four star's it's panache and pizzazz have faded with the decades and the entire hotel needs a subtle but complete refit to be restored to it's former glory. And as for the Tonga Room it is an evil joke food came out cold, an insult to asian cuisine, the band was unspeakably untalented the Fairmont needs to be kicked into the 21st century kicking and screaming.
Pay for WiFi? Is it 2003? Get with the times. The only place you pay for WiFi is on an airplane.
Gorgeous view of the pool deck below.
The Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco sits atop Nob Hill, affording breathtaking views of the city and bay while offering easy access to the Financial District, Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf. The Fairmont San Francisco is also located at the only spot in the city where each of the cable car lines meet. This lovely Grande dame provides everything from an incredible night s sleep to a staff that stops at nothing to exceed expectations. Truly a slice of heaven the Beaux Arts-style property, designed by celebrated architect Julia Morgan (the genius behind the grandiose Hearst Castle), was about to open when its city suffered a devastating earthquake on April 18, 1906. The hotel didn't endure severe damage from the seismic activity, but fires that followed the quake soon claimed much of the property.
One year to the day after the disaster, the Fairmont Hotel San Francisco opened its doors to celebrate the rebirth of this great city. Revisiting this weekend I can tell you it is still majestic after all these years. And if you think you ve seen or done it all in San Francisco, have a cocktail in the legendary Tonga Room Tiki bar. What a kick!
Very classic and nice. Not in the most fun neighborhood. Great (although expensive) breakfast
O have never stayed overnight, only come for one reason: Tonga Room.
Great views and location! Pricey but worth it for an amazing experience
Beautiful venue for a wedding and service was excellent. We came for an afternoon wedding and had a brunch menu that was fabulous. If you have the money, you won't be disappointed getting married here!
Went for drinks at the Tonga Room. It's a tradicional place in SF. The staff is very professional and nice, they frequently have live music, and their menu has the same theme of the room: Pacific Islander. A place to visit for San Francisco residents. A right of passage.
Gorgeous building and interior. Comfortable rooms with nice amenities.
DO NOT BOOK! I made a reservation and I showed up to find the hotel was CLOSED. I did not receive any type of notification stating the hotel was closed and I had to scramble to find another hotel in San Francisco while carrying all of my bags. I called the hotel and received no reply.
The staff there is amazing as is the hotel in general from the valet to the checkout I had an amazing stay each and every time I visit!
At the Tonga bar the ambiance is fun, the drinks are great, and the live music is nice!
Gorgeous dining rooms with entrees and staff service of the quality that you would expect from the world famous Fairmont. Excellent venue for hosting awards ceremonies!
It's a classically pretty hotel and I went for afternoon tea. The scones were delicious, though the entree-sandwiches were just okay to me. I had the creamy Earl Gary tea which was very good, though I had some of my aunt's Revitalize tea and it was even better. The service was a little slow, but the atmosphere was nice.
Beautiful hotel, customer service and food
needs improvement. Dirty utensils in the bar lounge
Beautiful place with fancy details, but parking is pretty hard to find nearby or expensive. You would have to go downstairs to fetch your car, but the instruction is not clear
Tonga room is fun. Great band, good drinks and cool decor
This is one of the truly great places in the city. be sure to check out the beautiful scenic courtyard in the back as well as the restaurants. I've been going there since I was a child with my grandparents and it has maintained its integrity. Be sure to walk around the hallways and look closely at the historic photographs that detail the original San Francisco earthquake and it's aftermath. they also have cases filled with crown jewels so if you're thinking about pulling a heist this might be a good spot for you as well.
Unbelievable hotel; especially the two-story gingerbread house at Christmas time.
Always crowded. Pulling up in front for the bell-hop/valet is a nightmare.
Occupying a landmark Nob Hill building offering views of the city and the bay, this grand hotel is a 13-minute walk from Union Square, and 1.3 miles from the shops and restaurants at lively Pier 39.
Polished rooms offer designer toiletries and Keurig coffeemakers, plus flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi (fee); some have pull-out sofas and/or bay views. Plush suites add separate living areas; some have balconies, pool tables or wet bars. Room service is available.
There's a fine-dining restaurant serving afternoon tea, a tiki bar with live entertainment, and a European-inspired cafe. Other amenities include a health club (fee) with trainers and a spa.
Tonga is alright, cool tiki ambiance with a pool and artificial rain. The happy hour prices are reasonable, expect to pay about $10/drink.
Went to the Tonga Room. Glad this bar/restaurant did not get closed down, as suggested years ago. I would recommend everyone to go here at least once.
Beautiful hotel, great customer service. Staff is really friendly, they really take good care of you.
In the middle of everything. Building is a little old but that is expected.
The hotel is in a convenient location. You can walk to the Chinatown Center, go to the Pier, and if you take a taxi you get to the Golden Gate Bridge or the gardens by 20 or less. The only thing that is missing is that they had a refri and a microwave for reheating. But yes, they had Tesla charger and friendly and well-come with pets. Haunted.
Stayed at the Fairmont for one night. Our double queen bedroom was very clean with comfortable beds. The bathroom was huge and we even had a walk-in closet! One negative is that WiFi was not complementary. Also on our night there, the next door guests were extremely loud in the middle of the night. We had to call the desk twice and they promptly send up a security guard to keep the peace. I didn't expect this type of behavior from guests visiting this expensive and elegant hotel but there's not much the hotel can do about it other then send up security as they did here. We stayed here because we wanted to experience a SF historic hotel but if you're not into that then you can get a better value elsewhere.
I did not get to stay at the hotel. I was there to see the giant gingerbread house. The hotel seemed very nice, and in a great location near union square.
One of the best hotels on the planet. It was a privilege to be hosted here for two nights.
I don t know if anyone has noticed but there s something rehab about this imposing edifice of a a hotel both on the inside and on the outside. I was here with my friends and we really had fun. The staffers where also amazingly helpful.
In A Nutshell:
-The Fairmont in San Francisco is the "original" .
-Along w/ the hush-hush Pacific-Union Club across the street, the Fairmont survived the infamous 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
-You can see many old photos of the disaster in the lower levels of the hotel.
-As you would imagine this iconic & old hotel has been updated some, but still keeps it's original feel.
-Therefore, don't expect a modern-style hotel.
-The room I stayed in was smallish, but had a very comfortable bed & clean bathroom.
Overall, the service was great & the location was perfect since you in "money" Nob Hill, which is close to Grace Cathedral, Union Square, City Hall & popular, hip Polk Street.
I've stayed at a few Fairmont properties, always seemed high end beautiful luxury.
When I first got here, I honestly thought the hotel was a little tired, musty smelling but OK. The room was spacious and clean, the lobby was impressive, traditional large open and all marble . food and service for breakfast and lunch was good.
Service as always excellent, It just didn't feel as high end as other Fairmont properties. That said, I would go back.
Nice hotel but restaurant is over the top expensive.
Terrible experience, unfriendly staff and management. The minute I got in there the receptionist. They charged us for booze just for taking it out of the fridge. I don't recommend it to anyone.
Friendly staff, remembered name and reason for stay. Rooms are exceptional, perfectly clean, especially in places that don't get cleaned often(under bed, under sink, etc.) Check in and out were quick, and required no additional effort on my part. Overall, exactly what I expect from a luxury property.
Beautiful hotel. They have a gingerbread house, made up of gingerbread cookies, in the hotel lobby. The smell in the hotel was quite captivating. Truly feel the Christmas spirit in this hotel
Was here for a conference. I like the space and ambiance.
Concierge was very helpful; we came for the Tonga room and stayed for the history.
We visited the Tonga Room at the fairmont for the first time and enjoyed it immensely. The drinks were a little overpriced, but delicious and the music was fantastic.
Nice hotel, but not as nice as our visit 2 years ago.
