Very cool place to visit for dinner. High scale with great food and service. Be sure to dress up as it is not casual. Multiple rooms tucked away in every corner. Waiters bring your food out in unison, serving everyone at the table at once. Awesome experience. Pricey, but worth a visit.

For all the hype it's a 3. The food was good but not unbelievable the way its portrayed. The romaine lettuce was not crisp instead was limp and mushy. The feeling was that people go there to take pictures...like look I was at commanders palace. Bread pudding is different and really good but I don't like that the waiter breaks my souffle with the rum sauce.... just pour it on top let me break into it your killing my fun. The fish dinner was ok. The boudin was really good
Crescent cocktail was good too. But for the overall food n experience a 3* is in order. Waitress n Waiters not very genuine still tipped 20% cause I just do but fir tha hype not worth it.

It's an old New Orleans staple, but they are over rated, food is mediocre, service is great, but they treat their staff like subhuman pawns.
Unless you are someone who is worth kissing up to... you're just another ignorant tourist, even if you're a local.

After watching the excellent documentary on this restaurant and the family behind it i had to visit. Me and wife went to new orleans for our honeymoon and had the pleasure of dining at commanders palace. The food was exceptional the price was reasonable and the service was remarkable this place deserves all the praise and awards it receives. I live in texas but i will certainly visit again.

May 2, 2019: This is my 3rd visit to Commanders over the years. I am from Florida and we always try to incorporate a visit to Commanders during our vacation. Last year we visited for our first Mardi Gras. The food was amazing. Unfortunately, I found a hair in my turtle soup. I'm basically bald so it clearly was not mine. The waiter attended to the situation in a professional manner. The manager approached us with a sincere apology and took his time with us to make sure we were comfortable staying and even offered us a dessert. Today we had a birthday and a reunion of 4 friends from around the USA. The food was amazing but AGAIN there was a hair this time in my friend's entree. A medium length hair. The waiter offered to replace it but my friend declined. I was so embarrassed to hype this place up to my friends for a disappointing experience. One that's not cheap either. To make matters worse when my friend ordered her dessert she asked nicely for cautious making of her dessert and he was a little harsh in his tone about the item removed from the bill. We understand this but he really should have tried to be friendly with my friend who truly was turned off by eating anything further at Commanders. When we payed our checks I spoke with the nice lady who brought the check in regards to my complete disappointment that a manager never stopped by to speak with my friend or any of us at our table. She stated she thought that he did and apologized for the manager. When the birthday girl was given her check she was charged for her dessert. I'm shocked. Truly I am. The food is amazing but there seems to be a disconnect between the chefs and the standards of food preparation. If this were chili's I would complain but I would not waste my time on a review like this over Chili's. But then again I don't pay $78 for a meal at chili's. On the way out we did ask for a manager. We already paid, we weren't looking for anything but the manager stated in regards to hair in food, that it only happens once in 6 months. I completely disagreed with his statement as it has happened twice now to my party in 15 months. Now I question the sanitary practices of Commanders. Is it worth re-visiting again? Is it possible that they are lowering their standards to turn tables faster just to make more money? I'm not sure I would recommend Commanders Palace to my friends or anyone for that manner. This place may have an incredible history but continued Excellence is essential in today's economic society and its vast choices. Commanders, I hope that you will read this and realize change is required and actions must be made to protect your business and your patrons. And for anyone wanting to drop $75 for a meal here, I would reconsider or at least check your food before you eat it.

My family and I go to New Orleans every year for Thanksgiving. Every year we call Commander's Palace to confirm when they will open their reservations for Thanksgiving Dinner. This year they gave us the wrong date and by the time we called there were no reservations left. Given the circumstances I asked Brian in reservations if it would be possible to be on a wait list, he said his manager would call me back the following Monday. The manager never did. When I called Brian back he insisted there was "nothing that can be done" that there was no wait list. He did tell me the General Manager of the restaurant Don Strunk would call me back on Tuesday. (Mr. Strunk if you are reading this, it is now Thursday!) While Commander's has no wait list for Thanksgiving, certain people can be on a standing reservation list every year. Since we go every year one of the things I was going to ask Don Strunk was how to get on that list. Alas I am still waiting. It seems like preferential treatment is the order of the day and some people do not even merit a return phone call. I do not know why certain people are treated better than others by Commander's Palace, but I do know this: Commander's Palace does not feel it owes a return phone call to a physician who did her residency at Charity Tulane hospital and returned to the city after Katrina to teach Advanced Trauma Life Support because no one else was available. They feel no need to return a telephone call to a family that every year since 2007 has been flying to New Orleans to celebrate Thanksgiving in the city. Maybe their food is authentic New Orleans, but based on my experience, the way they treat their customers definitely is not.

Service is second to none, and the food was phenominal. I highly recommend ordering the tasting menu (we opted not to do the wine pairing). Each course flowed smoothly to the next, all the flavors balanced and contrasted one another perfectly. Being that they are small plates, we ended the meal feeling pleasantly full and our palates were more than satisfied.

Edward, Eliot, and Mackenzie were our servers throughout and they made sure we wanted for nothing. While they were very professional, they also added a lively personality to our dining experience.

This was our first time in and we went for iur anniversary. It is a perfect place for a fun and romantic dinner!

What I consider the Grande Dame of restaurants in New Orleans. The food is always top notch. The service is always impeccable. The bar program is excellent. The turtle soup is not to be missed. there is always some neat little food item that you never thought of that appears on the menu. Leave your jeans and flip-flops and shorts at the house. This place has a dress code and deserves it. My wife and I have been coming here since we married. We don't live in New Orleans but we come here at least 3 times a year. Reservations very highly suggested. Especially at night. Extensive wine list.

We revisited this historic restaurant after 30 years and were delighted to see the same charming friendly place. We were greeted at the door by a line of staff as we were seated upstairs. Several staff attended us and we came to know them by name. Prompt service, quality, presentation, and helpful advice made this an evening to remember. This is a special place for special events.

One star worth of five for the food only, and just a bit of our server s charm.
The rest of the experience was a disaster.
Knives in roll-up dirty. Appetizers came to fast, haven t had a chance to even start a cocktail and think about wine order. We felt extremely rushed and our reservation was at 9pm. Btw, I called the same day and asked for an earlier one because I know that later tables tend to be served quickly since everyone wants to close and go home. They said they do not have tables available and restaurant was half empty. Interesting.
No Champagne I order, no balloons or a candle. It was my fiancee s 30th Bday and I really wanted to make it special since, due to Covid, there is not much else to do. There was nothing special at all.
Unexperienced person opened the wine, another fail. No one offered after dinner drinks, no one offered another bottle of wine, nothing. My guess is that they make plenty of money and do not need to up-sell anything. At the end, our server just brought the payment terminal even though we did not asked for the check. In and out with three courses in one hour. Ridiculous. I myself work in an upscale restaurant and I know what Special Occasion means. But apparently not everywhere.
Kudos for the food though, Turtle Soup is an absolute delish. Cheers!

Great food, impeccable service. Everything we had here was excellent. The turtle soup and foie gras were delicious. I had shrimp and grits, which were awesome. The meals were placed in front of each diner at the table at the same time, which was near to watch for the larger parties. They also make a great Blood and Sand.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here during our stay in New Orleans. Service was entertaining, the drinks were delicious, and the food was also some of the best we had. The smoked Pork belly and the barbeque shrimp were our favorites. Would definitely return.

Years of coming to New Orleans but first time here. Superlative and gracious service (Jeff and Madison) , wonderfully chilled dinning room, and excellent food, or course. I expected it to be much more expensive but given the whole experience it was downright reasonable. We got off to a fast start with breakfast beignets and crawfish bread... the "bread" was brioche loaf and I was impressed with the julienned bell peppers. Local informants suggested the shrimp and bananas Foster and of course the turtle soup. I got the latter despite the remonstrances of my noble companion and it was pretty good, but I was tempted by the cassoulet. I was outordered with the shrimp. Next time I'll stick to the shrimp, it was perfect. Getting the cassoulet was really gilding the Lily. I ordered the Creole souffle bread pudding and that was the coup de Grace. It was all wonderful, tho I still prefer Galatoire's, and now, if you'll excuse me, I must nap

Amazing food. Beautiful atmosphere. Great neighbourhood. Service was lacking, which was surprising as so many of our friends recommended this place, also surprising because we had amazing service everywhere in New Orleans. The sommelier did a great job.

Highly expensive, could have made a car payment instead of lunch, but so so delicious. I love well done steak, only way I will eat it is if it is dead and no longer bleeding. Usually, even at steak houses, my well done steak is dry and oftentimes burnt if it actually comes well done at all. Here I had the most mouthwatering, melt in your mouth, well done steak ever.

I would give it a six starts if I could. Everything was just perfect. The food, personalized service, attention to details, everything was on point. Ti stopped by our table and asked us how was everything, which was very nice. Highly recommend!

Great deal for lunch, they maybe try too hard to provide upscale service though - you never really know who your waiter is which leads to confusion/longer wait times when getting refills, etc.

Update (5/2/18): Amazing service with great presentation of good cuisine! We were always greeted with lot of enthusiasm when we first walked in and as we walked to our table. Our lead server was Gabriel. We got the New Orleans Barbecues Gulf Shrimp and Griddle Seared Gulf Fish. They were very tasty and delicious! I always like the way they present the food all at once - this place always hire extra employees to make sure they are never under staffs no matter how busy they are. Really recommended!

Amazing service and tasty unique appetizers, entrees, and deserts...
I love the way the dishes were presented and brought to us - make me feel extra special. We didn't like the boudin rice so we sent it back and the manager took it off our bill. The manager came by and made the crepe topping for us. It was such a wonderful one of a kind experience.

Vince, Dwayne and the rest of the Commander's Palace staff were fabulous! The food was amazing and before your main course they give you a shot of a special Tom Collins with lavender and lemon to cleanse the palette. They also have the best coffee in Nawlins. It was by far, my best dining experience. Can't wait to go back on my next visit!

Had a lovely dinner 10/17/2019. Service was great. All the servers were poised, proper, and very polished in their appearance. Food (three course menu) was delicious although I was sad when I realized after arriving at my hotel that I left my swan shaped leftovers on the table. Still would definitely go back. Great wine selection!

If the Commander's Palace were a man, not a restaurant, I would marry it and thank my lucky stars every day for the rest of my life. What an incredible cultural treasure, all about treating people beautifully. What sumptuous and delicious food, what luxurious surroundings, but above all, what next-level gracious and elegantly humane service. The wait staff at the Commander's Palace have become my new gold standard of what it means to treat people well. And unfortunately...now that my standards have gone up, they can never go back down again! It's more than a meal. It's a chance to change your understanding of life.

I loved the esthetic of this place! The building was a traditionally old one and managed to keep its historic image in tact. You are greeted my pleasant diverse staff upon arrival. There is a dress code of business casual to business so this means, you can t wear tennis shoes or like exercising clothes.

The manager will walk you through the kitchen where you will get to see all of the magic happen! All of the friendly happy waitresses, waiters and cooks in their element, laughing and cooking near perfect dishes in total bliss! It was like something out of a Hollywood set.

They sat each of us and our waiter was so professional and pleasant!

It was my friend Kim s Birthday so a live jazz band made their way to our table and played 5 classic New Orleans songs.

The food, omg the food was absolutely amazing. I forgot specifically what I ordered but I do remember their turtle soup! Slightly spicy (a Cajun slow heat) full of savory flavor! I could totally see myself living at this restaurant

EXCELLENT food & EXCELLENT staff!

EXCELLENT food & EXCELLENT staff!
VERY expensive(at least I thought so) but was worth every bite. If you have something special to celebrate, this is the place. Definitely has earned and deserves 5 stars.

This was everything I had heard and hoped it would be. We were told we just had to go to this iconic restaurant so I made reservations a couple of weeks before our trip and still could only get a lunch time seating. This actually turned out well because we prefer to have the big meal early in the day and following it with a stroll through the garden district viewing the historic houses during the late afternoon is ideal. Before our much anticipated date, I watched all of the shows on Netflix that featured Commander s Palace. This research paid off, giving me a great guide for ordering spectacular drinks and entrees. Try the last word and this is a perfect place to have a sazerac. The Grillades were recommended and did not disappoint. I ve not had a dish quite like this before. The Duck was also unique and outstanding. You absolutely must have the bread pudding for dessert. The whole thing came together in such a wonderful and pleasing way. Lunch here is a perfect prelude to stroll, then a nap, then you re all rested and ready for a big night out in the big easy. perfect!

With a setting in history and tradition, I was told this was the top notch restaurant of New Orleans and I was not disappointed. I was fortunate enough to get seated for Sunday brunch without a reservation, but I highly recommend that you make one in advance and come in fine attire. The service of the staff was impeccable and the food was outstanding. If you are visiting New Orleans, this is a must stop location to experience the regal dining of the deep south.

Flew in for the day from Orlando to dine here for dinner; everything and everyone made the meal and night spectacular! The tasting menu gave us a chance to try many different items. One of the best experiences anywhere in the world.

The food is delicious, turtle soup and pecan pie are both fantastic. The service at this place is unparalleled. I am not going to take the time to type out every little detail of their impeccable service that is so attention to detail focused. If you want to see it for yourself go eat there. If you really want to see it go with a large group. This is a must visit restaurant, 10 out of 10 will hopefully get to go again, just make sure you pay attention to the dress code before you arrive.

If you ever get the chance to come to NOLA you must make this a stop on your itinerary! Commanders Palace is one of the finest restaurants in this country, so of course your going to spend a little coin but when u get the quality and care put into this type of food it doesn't even matter. Honestly the professionalism of every staff member was worth the trip here in itself, knowledgeable, kindness and great energy barely does them justice. Many of the worlds famous chefs have started or worked here. At the end of your meal when your ready to leave they guide you to the exit but they guide you out through the kitchen, yes you walk right out past where the cooking and prep is all done. They want you to see where your food is stored, prepped and cooked, how clean, organized and sanitary the kitchen is. Now how many times have you seen or heard of that! Commanders Palace is a experience for sure. You will need to make a reservation and dress your best.
