Have been looking for a decent place for breakfast and decided to try Highland Morning. The restaurant was packed and we were instructed to wait at the coffee shop next door until a table was ready. After a short wait, we were sat at a table crammed next to a door with a terrible draft. Our waitress took our order without writing it down and surprise, it was wrong when she brought it out. She got an attitude when we brought it up that the order was wrong. For a $40+ breakfast for two people (we got an omelette, burrito, a piece of French toast, and a pitcher of orange juice) it was overpriced and the service was terrible. I would recommend going somewhere else for breakfast.

All right, I'm not going to lie and say, this place was good. Nah, this place was ******* amazing. Ugh, so good. Pleasurable experience with dishes that combined together so beautifully, my peasant mind couldn't even fathom putting sausage biscuits and gravy inside an omlette! Mind blown.
The food was cold.. Steak had NO taste. Eggs cold potatoes cold you get one slice of toast for 1199 steak and egg breakfast and you only get one slice of toast
I absolutely LOVED the food. Definitely a fun treat to come here. The baja Benedict is seriously excellent for savory. My only minor concern is that they don't use real whip cream as a topping, or if it's an option, it's not clear.
We waiting a long time for our food and the potatoes were so hard we couldn't chew them. Our waiter was awesome and brought us biscuits and gravy for the long wait.
Super cute and yummy food. Bloody Mary was so good even my boyfriend said it wasn't bad (and he hated them). Also, the bathrooms say sausages and eggs. Love it lol
Service and food were blah, and have declined tremendously. The restaurant was hot. Staff had the other side of the dining room closed, were rude about informing people of that and unreasonable in their efforts to cram everyone on one side.
Few do breakfast better than Highland Morning! Great flavors, plenty of vegetarian option and superb coffee. My new personal favorite is the Baja Benedict. One of the best things I've ever eaten!
Baja Benedict was really good! Breakfast burrito seamed sort of lacking, bloody Mary's tasted really good but we asked for them to be spicy and the only thing spicy about them was the pepperoncini that came with it, asked for hot sauce, and got two little containers with barely half a teaspoon in it. Didn't really want to bother the server about it, she kept telling us sorry but never did anything wrong. I'd highly recommend this place for breakfast, it was a cool little spot at a decent price.
The food was GREAT, but our server was 'meh'. She did all the basics of a good server, but no enthusiasm at all.
Anyway, I got the pancakes with bananas, strawberries and blue berries. The fruit was cooked into the pancakes, and was put on top too (IMHO, the best way to do it). Two pancakes were brought, and each was the size of a small pizza. This was WAY more than I could eat (not necessarily a bad thing). If two people want the same pancakes, I recommend ordering one, then sharing.
The food here is amazing. All fresh locally sourced ingredients. Plus fantastic customer service. There is a reason they have expanded into the store next to them and opening a saint Matthews location. Don't be surprised if you can't get a table since it is a favourite with locals. My only complaint was I broke out in hives from their cleaning products on the table. They said they will be switching to hypoallergenic options and gave me a gift card for my trouble. I will be going back.
Absolutely, Hands down, the worst experience, food-wise, this side of the Mason-Dixon.
Staff discussing, how rude each other could be to others, food was sub-standard (most cafeteria's and even service stations serve better cuisine), service was actually okay, not bad, not great. Used a groupon to mediate the bill.. three people in attendance, including my young daughter. Total 34$, knock 16 off for groupon.
Thing is, I called the establishment after, while my child was busy loosing her stomach contents to the household porcelain god, and spoke with the Manager, Mike. To wit he admitted that Highland Morning uses a microwave to heat all their gravies and sauces and bring things back up to temperature. Which, take that for what you will. I'm glad I didn't order the biscuits and gravy.
Eggs were not cooked completely and some (not sure the percentage but it seems it may be high) of their food comes in a box from Sysco.. and I know this because Sysco delivered during our dinner to the dining room proper.
Also, and perhaps more disturbing, we're in Kentucky, and the biscuits come pre-sliced and, presumably, from a Sysco box.
So disappointed, my family and I will *never* eat there again, and I advise you not to either. Management assured me that there would be an investigation however, but when you're okay with the microwave being used in a restaurant kitchen, the temptation to use it when you shouldn't, is just too great. I have no faith in this business and, once again, seriously advise you to take your business, elsewhere.
Going to this restaurant is like being in a relationship with a beautiful woman that has a bad attitude. The food is good, when the order is right, but the service is bad. I have been to this restaurant on three occasions and my husband on two in the past year. Each time our orders have either been wrong, missing a side, or we don't have a drink. The last time I was very verbal because the guy took my order and had the nerve to say he apologizes if he misunderstood me. You repeated it. LOL. So, if you are not a stickler for service or getting the correct food then go. However, if you believe in good food and good service I suggest you pass this place over.
Great menu, awesome specials and great service. My Baja Benedict was unique and delicious and the biscuits with sausage gravy was excellent. I wasn't a fan of the fresh fruit, which was a bit worse for ware, or the "break room" coffee. But the fresh squeezed orange juice was sweet and deliciously refreshing.
Others in my party loved the french toast and different varieties of waffles. Must dine here again before I head back home.
Food was good. Didn't go inside, got food to go. Things missing from our order and customizations were not as asked. Hope to update from a second visit with better experience.
I had the leaning tower of waffles, they where delicious. Others in my party had the orange dream pancakes also great. Service was excellent, waitress was Andrea.
Wife and I returned after a terrible experience in Summer 2011. This visit was completely different. Excellent service. Excellent food. Excellent coffee. Incredible biscuits and gravy. Servers said that they had some bad staff that was later let go. I definitely see the improvement.
We did not enjoy our meal there that much, it was loud and busy inside so we sat outside, a pressure washer to the sidewalk would do a lot to make is nicer and reduce the flies. The food was okay
The eggs benedict is really good but they're pancake portions have consistently gotten smaller and smaller will be going elsewhere for my pancake needs
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed my breakfast here last week..Our server, Michael, was excellent and made me feel confident in my selection, which helped tremendously as, unbeknownst to him, I had been on the fence about it. The Dutch Apple Waffles they serve have GOT to be one of the best things on their menu! I'm still thinking about them and dreaming of having them again! So tasty, and completely worth the stop. I loved how their breakfast options were unique. Thanks for a memorable experience!
My first time there was yesterday. The wait for the steak was a little long but that was only because it was cooked to perfection! Biscuits and gravy the freaking best I've ever had! The French toast was AMAZING!!!!! Happy customer that will return soon
Visited for the first time today for brunch. The wait was 'only' 20 mins which we were told was short for a Saturday. We waited about 30 mins and were seated and quickly greeted by our server. She was excellent - shared details about the menu and offerings when we told her it was our first time. Waited too long for our food - about 20 mins. I ordered their Baja Benedict. It was delicious. The eggs were not poached and had crusty edges which I don't care for. My hashbrowns were undercooked. My husband ordered an omelette and it came out browned ~ again overcooked. And his biscuit was cold. My kids ordered regular eggs Benedict and the waffle dish with nutella. They had no complaints. Overall it was an average meal. It seemed the kitchen was too small to turn out good dishes with such a crowd. We were told the wait on the weekends is normally an hour. I'd not wait that long for a meal like this again. I might be willing to try again during the week when the kitchen can spend adequate time cooking items to their appropriate doneness.
I had researched a place to have breakfast on a road trip and I had high expectations after reading many reviews of this place. The service was fast when I was there and the coffee was good, but the water cup they gave me had dried orange juice pulp all over it and the coffee mug was cracked and dirty. I ordered an eggs Benedict and grits. The english muffin tasted like it had been brushed with cheap movie theater popcorn butter, and the grits just tasted like pepper. I used the restroom before I left and there was black discoloration/mildew on the walls and there were flies everywhere. Did not meet up to my expectations
This is a cozy little restaurant with a huge following. They open at 8am on Sunday morning and are right across the street from a church. I felt fortunate to get a seat at the bar in a short amount of time. The key lime pancakes were quite tasty and the coffee was just right. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area!
Strawberry shortcake pancakes are the way to go. Absolutely delicious. Staff is eccentric, fun, and fast. Place could be twice as big...but would probably still be packed. Space at the restaurant is a premium unfortunately.
Went for Saturday brunch. The food was amazing! Had the new ultimate crab cakes Benedict. Coffee was great as well. Most of the menu is reasonably priced. The mimosas were priced way to high though at $6/glass.
We take all of our out of town guests here for breakfast and it's always a big hit! They've just expanded so the wait isn't quite as long. My husband gets the biscuits and gravy every time while I like to float around the menu and try different delicacies. I'm so glad we live within walking distance of this cute little local gem!
