Beyond the health risk the contamination poses, the Lennar shipyard development is a huge gentrification force in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood
if it's so great, how come they found a radioactive item feet from new housing?
Fammie and Carrie work very hard to show available property. They are very knowledgable and personable. The welcome center has interactive maps and a detailed presentation of the property. The property is affordable considering the location. Not going to find much in San Francisco for less than 1.2 million much less new construction and some units with a view. The fine print uncovers the devil in the detail. Monthly fees can approach 750$ per month. Although we decided at this point in our lives that kind of expense was not for us Fammie and Carrie have good insight into the available properties.
It is safe to assume most people posting here did not actually purchase or seek to purchase a home from Lennar.
Regarding radiation, I have a Geiger counter. Please point me to one location where I can independently verify the presence of radioactive material at Parcel A of the Shipyard. I've yet to find any after being here 3 years. The item they found during the scan? A glow-in-the-dark deck marker from a ship. Not hazardous unless you eat it. Most of the stories about radiation are just fear-mongering, the real motivation is anti-gentrification.
That's the only real major issue with the Shipyard. The district is up-and-coming, and there is resistance to newcomers moving in who have a different background. It will take the older residents some time to adapt to the change.
Lennar has construction issues like any other builder, but the homes at the Shipyard are still an excellent value for the money if you can put up with this transitional time. It is actually a pleasant location overlooking the waterfront, away from the city center. It will be a very nice place eventually.
By developing on radioactive ground, Lennar is endangering the lives of Bayview residents. This nonsense needs to stop!
The radioactive contamination here presents a SERIOUS health risk. Horrifying.
Isn't it curious that on Lennar's shipyard website, it isn't noted that a radioactive object was found feet from the townhouses they've sold, on land that used to be a Superfund site & stated to be clean and clear of radioactive waste.
Jessica Burger (5-star review here) is the Public Relations Coordinator for Lennar. Hmm. Doesn't seem like she should be the one voting. She is getting paid to counter the truth.
Lennar KNOWS how contaminated the land is at the shipyard and is still trying to sell the land and build luxury homes. Profit is the clear goal here, and people's lives are the cost.
