Great biscuits and gravy, affordable non-greasy breakfast
One of the most popular brunch spots on Bardstown Road and probably in all of Louisville. Arrive early to avoid the wait on weekends. Food is typical brunch fare with a southern twist.
Ate here on a road trip and loved it. Service was great and there was such a unique menu.
Food was good, but not great. Service was average, but to be fair they were very busy.
Is is just a great locally owned restaurant that you should visit if you're in the Highlands. Their pancakes are crazy-big and good!
Best Bloody Mary's! Brandy was an awesome server. Food amazing! Worth a wait!!
I always get the steak and eggs and I'm never disappointed
Great food, expect there to be a wait on weekends but it's worth the time.
The waitress was nice, but the overall experience wasn t up to par. The food wasn t the best due to we were served overcooked, hard & cold breakfast potatoes. Of course they charge extra for the potatoes. Even though the waitress got us a fresh order I was unable to finish because they were mostly overcooked & burnt. Then the Denver scramble was not fully cooked the eggs were a little wet & the bacon was not fully cooked as well. It was very flimsy & the stuffed French quarter French toast was black. We asked the waitress about it & she stated it s how it s normally prepared. I have never seen or heard of blackened French toast. We went along with it due to I can get really angry when it comes to my food not being prepared properly. We already had to request a fresh order of potatoes & was still charged. I am not sure if the cook was new or what, but most likely we will try the other location next time.
The best brunch in Louisville. Go for the Buscuit and Gravy Omelet or the Baja Benedict.
I found the place to really lack sanitation. Definitely not a place to go during covid but I wouldn t return even after. When I walked in 2/3 of their servers had their mask pulled down. I watched as they used the same dirty bucket of water to clean all tables, answer calls, take payment, throw away trash and serve plates all with out washing their hands (Im not exaggerating). I watch one of those same servers pour fruit from a styrofoam cut into a glass using her hands (touching the fruit) no gloves. Tables aren't 6ft apart no social distancing.
Love the place, people and food. Was a customer before i became an employee..
It's always difficult to choose what to get because it's all so good!
Wonderful environment, staff, service, and amazing food!! I love this little business and their service! (which is fast and friendly) I've been here multiple times and tried different things on the menu and haven't been disappointed!! I've recommend all my friends and family to come here and will continue to recommend anyone to come here!!! Might even catch me in there, just make sure you're there before 3!
I m giving this place a 3 mainly because we checked in with them at 2, got seated at 2:20 (which is not bad at all since there were a good number of people) ordered at 2:25 but didn t get our food until past 3. Not really comparing anything at all, but the table next to us ordered the same time we did and they were already done eating by the time we got our food. My friend ordered an appetizer, but didn t get the appetizer until after the food was given to us. That clearly defeats its purpose. The food was good I ll give that to them, but the service needs a lot improvement.
Good food. Quite pricy and almost always packed. If you don't mind tight spaces and aren't extremely claustrophobic it is a nice pkace to eat.
Love this place. Food and service are always great.
Breakfast/Brunch is awesome. The menu provides a lot of variety and the quality is very good. If you don't like small dining areas or being "cramped", this may not be the place for you. It's tight quarters, but well worth it. Baja Benedict is where it's at. The Not Brown is phenomenal as well.
Best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. Phenomenal spot for breakfast.
Chad was a great server and the eggs Benedict were delicious.
Best breakfast in Louisville. The biscuit and gravy is tops.
One of the best breakfast joints in the city. I'll even go one up and say the best breakfast venue this side of the Ohio. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They have Heavenly pancakes as big as your face if your face has a 55 inch circumference. They just recently added a biscuit and gravy omelette that is to die for. And don't forget about the bottomless mimosas. Turn up.
Some say it is the best breakfast in Louisville. I can't disagree. :)
Great service and excellent food. The best waffles in town. It was a little chilly in the restaurant. I had to wear my jacket indoors. Friendly atmosphere. I enjoyed the experience. I have been several times and will return.
Inside is tight, not much seating. If you have more than 4 people, give up on trying to sit together during breakfast hours. Food was average, wait was well over an hour, as they forgot about us. Twice. No room to wait inside at all, so most end up going to Day's coffee shop next door, which was great, but they won't try to come find you to seat you. Service once seated was good. Had the burrito, which lacked any real seasoning, and the grits were completely tasteless. Wouldn't go back.
Get the biscuits and gravy. Don't consider the small order. You won't regret it.
Super small place but it stays packed out for other reasons. A must visit when we are in town.
Since they remodeled a few years ago, I like how much bigger the space is. The staff is really nice, but the food is pretty average. The eggs are really greasy and since it's a Southern style breakfast, veggie options are a bit limited.
The food was delicious! They messed up my boyfriends order and had to remake it but they gave us some free food as consolation while we waited, which was very nice. Great little cafe.
Always so good. Our favorite neighborhood spot to bring friends for breakfast.
This was my first visit so I will be honest. The food was ok, I had a meal from the classic portion of the menu that consisted of bacon, grits, and eggs with cheese. I got a side order of French toast and potatoes. The food was lukewarm. The eggs weren t seasoned at all and the cheese wasn t melted when it came out. The potatoes weren t cooked throughly they were still a bit raw, my waitress put them back on the skillet but it wasn t much of an improvement. The grits were good, nice and creamy with just the right amount of butter. The French toast wasn t good, i don t know if it was the sourdough bread or the French toast batter but it just tasted like a piece of stale bread with a little cinnamon and powder sugar on it. I will give this place another shot since it s menu is so diverse, perhaps something else will be better.
Absolutely delicious French toast. We always have a great time here, and the servers are always attentive and helpful.
The restraunt is small so the tables are close together. But the staff is friendly and the food is delicious!
Don't go here! Too many people already do and I want to eat there!!!
Food is always good. Wait was what you expected on a nice Sunday early afternoon. I will say if you don't want a wait go early. But remember why there is a wait. The choices and food is just that good. They also offer options for vegetarians and offer turkey substitutions for pork. Which is pretty nice in my opinion
Always a great place for brunch! Biscuits and gravy are my favorite there!
1st time going, the dining area is a little small and you're very close to the other visitors, but the staff is nice and eager to help. I had the biscuits and gravy, they were a little different than what I'm used to. I give them 4 stars overall. If I come again I think I will try the pancakes.
One of the best breakfast places I have been in Louisville, this place is usually packed but it's worth the wait. Their coffee is outstanding along with eggs Benedict
Cost little independent breakfast eatery in the highlands. Very busy but didn't have to wait long for a table. Good service. Efficient and friendly staff. Upscale breakfast offerings. Interesting selection of eggs Benedict and a new twist on biscuits and gravy. Worth a try. A little pricey but no more so than similar places in town. Has a full bar.
My review has changed from three to four to five stars in a one year period. The service here has improved more rapidly than I can recall seeing in a restaurant. To be more specific, I ate here approximately ten times in 2014, and there were problems with at least one order at my table of four or less half of those times. So far in 2015 I've eaten here at least ten times with no service issues.
You'll still get better, faster service if you arrive early-ish (before 9:30), but you'll likely have quality service now even in the late morning and early afternoon.
The food is as good or better than it has been.
This place was eclectic. The vibe was good and so was the food. I will be there again!
Really good place, the staff so friendly and helpfull.
Wild Eggs is way better. Their grits had no umf & they only have a few items that actually taste good (flavored).
Came here for brunch during the week wasnt too busy, I got the french quarter french toast and it was pure bliss!! Will definitely come back!
Love this place. It's such a hole in the wall restaurant but the food is AMAZING. Especially if you are looking for fresh food. The service is fast and the outside seating is nice. I love going here simply because the prices are cheap and the meals are filling.
So good, we came back the next day before we left town. Outside seating is great!! Highly recommend crabcakes Benedict and the biscuits and gravy!! Love the atmosphere and the service. Everyone so nice, and the food is amazing!! Til next time Louisville!
Wow! Very impressed with this little place. I ate here for the first time with family in town from Maine last week and was blown away. Delicious food, fair prices, and our waitress was an absolute delight. Hands down the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had (sorry mom).
The best breakfast I have had in years! The biscuits and gravy are awesome and so are the lemon pancakes.
Always a fun menu to start any day, but also a great lunch locale. Friendly staff and great food!
This is akin to a hole in the wall restaurant, but don't let that fool you! Inside is comfortable seating, good service and, most importantly, great food. The menu takes you from breakfast to lunch with large and appetizing selections which are very reasonably priced. I love their hot brown version, their pancake selections (see pic of Dreamsicle pancakes!) and their omelets. Great place to go for a Sunday brunch complete with mimosas!
Good service. Delicious food. Place is legit. "The dude abides."
Great place to eat especially for breakfast. Menu offers a lot of variety (Dutch apple pie waffles, key lime pie pancakes, etc.) I had the Kentucky Pick 3 omelet with ham, bacon and peppers with cheddar jack cheese and potatoes and toast on the side. It was delicious! Omelet was cooked just right. I will definitely be visiting again.
Not so impressed. While food came out quickly, it was cold. Potatoes were very undercooked. Server came to check on food, but it just arrived, and had not tasted my meal. I had to refill my coffee. I barely touched the food. The server did not seem to have time to check on me, but had no problem taking time for conversation with their friends seated next to me. Not saying i won't return, but there are so many other wonderful options for breakfast in town, this place will definitely be at the bottom of the list. Not the first time I've had an less than average experience at Highland Morning.
As far a the food goes, this place is always on point. Very consistent with a great variety and some great custom dishes. I have yet to be dissapointed food.
The environment is relaxing with lots of natural light and even a limited amount of outdoor seating.
The staff is friendly and effcient although on certain days can be a bit over worked.
During the week, you can walk in and sit down right away. If you plan on going during the weekend, plan accordinly and be patient.
The seating is a bit crowded in an effort to accommodate as many customers as possible, so be prepared to squeeze through some tables and say hi to your neighbors.
Parking can also be an issue as it is mostly off street with no dedicated parking lot. You may be able to find a spot directly behind the building.
Overall, I love this place. There have been many rough Sundays that this place has provided a needed perk up with great food and atmosphere. Just remeber that many people know this place it amazing and its always worth making a plan ahead on the weekends.
My sausage, biscuit and gravy omelet was delicious. My new favorite.
Amazing food! Great service and the coffee isn't half bad!
I decided to go on a Friday morning and ordered a small breakfast. Service was good, attentive, and the atmosphere was happy. A small wait for the food, though I ordered quite a bit. Great for people watching! The food was well cooked with fresh ingredients. Nothing fancy, but not the worst breakfast diner I've been too.
I bought the steak on a whim, and it blew my mind!
Our waitress was extremely friendly and high-spirited. Our food, on the other hand, was okay at best. Our eggs were overcooked and the avocado was rock hard. However, I would definitely recommend and eat here again.
Obviously the Mimosas are amazing but the crab cake eggs Benedict I ordered was amazing! The menu has so many options I had the hardest time deciding. I just feel like parking is kind of a pain, but that's really just the location. This is probably the best breakfast place in the area.
This place is amazing and my husband and I enjoyed our breakfast there. There were many breakfast choices and even though we had to wait for a table, it was worth it. We don't eat pork and this is the first place we found so far in Louisville that offers turkey bacon and turkey sausage! My husband and I agree that this is our favorite breakfast place so far and will definitely go back again.
I love the food and the people. This place Is a great local eatery.
Walked in and told us to sit anywhere. Ok. Waited several minutes when employees were clearly available. Disheveled waitress came and brought us water and menus. No one ever came to take our drink orders. Te atmosphere was terrible. Was not quaint and cozy like it claimed to be. Dingy and unkept. When someone finally came to take our order he kept talking over us as we tried to order. Food took forever to come even though there was only one other couple in the restaurant. Nothing special about the salad but the Baja breakfast or whatever it was called was terrible. It was drowning in sauce and did not have good flavor. Also there were these weird crunchy things in it...??? Again, took forever to get our check and then forever to pay for it. I'm pretty sure that stupid Baja thing gave me good poisoning. Beware!! Highlands Morning is an overpriced dump with rude, oblivious servers and an unbelievably slow chef. Save your money and your time and go anywhere else for breakfast, brunch, or lunch!!!
1st time and will be back loved it Cozy, good food, and very nice people. Location is great
Absolutely love this place, from the food, service and the drinks. If you haven't been you are missing out!
If I could give it more stars I would. Our server Sarah was one of the best I've had in years. The food was unbelievable. In a biscuit and gravy snob and this was the best I've ever had in a restaurant. The key lime pancake also a must try! Worth the effort and wait.
