Well to put it mildly the place needs some serious updating and repairs. overall it just need a lot of work but the rooms aren't bad. pretty clean but like I stated before it just need some repair..

The room was very nice and the price was reasonable. The only complaints would be the parking lot was very dark and the decorative bed cover looked very nice but also looked dirty. However the sheets blanket and pillow cases did appear and smelled clean.

Took 2 hours after check-in to get into the room because it was dirty, then the keys made didn't work, maintenance had to let us in, then informed us they had to take our door off. They moved us to another room that was again dirty and took 2 hours to clean. It was 8pm before we got into our room. Checked for bed bugs (cause the whole hotel looks dirty and rundown) and found an enormous urine stain on the mattress and the light switch was crusted with dried seminal fluid. The pool is closed down with no signage or notification on the website. What an absolute nightmare of a hotel. Management was not interested in making things right, just plugging their new workout equipment. I wouldn't recommend staying there, and I surely would not recommend having a wedding there and forcing your friends and family to stay there. The walls are falling down, cracks throughout the building, It is by far the worst "hotel" experience I have ever had, and I have traveled through Asia.

This Hotel Is A Total Bug Fest. We Found 3 Roaches In Our Room Climbing Down A Wall. Luckly We Handled That Situation Ourselves , Even Though We Should Not Have To Be Killing Any Animal In A Hotel Thats Supposed To Be "Animal Free" The "Breakfast" In The Morning Is Only A Orange And A Beverage . The Only Thing Thats Actually Decent About This Hotel Is The Elevator.

I absolutely adore this hotel. I love the feel of the place. The woodwork is beautiful and every thing looks and smells so new. Our room had a great view of the river. The room was also spotless, had a lot of room and the bed was so comfy! The bathroom was amazing too! Very nice sized pool and kept very clean. 5 stars. I will definitely stay again. Booked through hotwire and got an amazing deal.

Very disappointed with hospitality. We stayed on a weekend. Saturday night we stayed in our room to relax and we were told were too loud it was not even 11p
Then a second time we were told if we were not quiet then we would be kicked out. We had a person who was hard of hearing and they said it was not their problem. Really?!?!
Breakfast food was yucky. Runny eggs, fruit looked and smelled old.
Do not stay here. Please find a big name chain if that works better.
I should have listen to all the other reviews instead of trying to give them a chance!

The only complaint is that some rooms are under restaurant so you can hear the chairs scratch the floor .. and people walking it is bad for them to rent them at same price as the other ones.

We were hesitant to stay based on some of the reviews, but were pleasantly surprised with the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was immaculate and was 2 level, 2 bath with a wonderful view of the river. Walking trails nearby. I would highly recommend the Riverview Inn.

Living Social had a deal for Cliffbreakers and our anniversary was coming up and we have never been away from our kids yet so I thought. ..oh this place looks nice and cozy...a hop skip and a jump from home...let's do it. I soooo should have read these reviews first. We arrived and the place was interesting. A lot of antiques and I thought the place was vintage. ..however I asked the to staff how old and they said it was built in 1998! I asked for an upgrade at check in and she said she gave us one. We stayed on the main floor and had a river view...ok more like a big tree view with the river behind it somewhere.
The room itself was bare. Nothing but two beds a worn out couch and table and nothing but dirt on the walls. No curtains just blinds. Very uninviting. The bathroom was...um I guess the major parts were clean...I wouldn't recommend using the shower. ..looked gross.
We decided to eat at the restaurant because the front desk said it was excellent and their chef was phenomenal. We ordered two drinks...that had an awful weird metallic taste. We figured out later it was something in the water...disgusting!
The food....at best...edible. my husband has the prime rib...which he really like the flavor. I had the NY strip...ok at best. We ordered he calamari which was quite bizarre..over cooked to boot.
Go somewhere else to eat.
During the night. ..I could hear everything going on in the hotel..walls and ceiling are paper thin. The rooms above us had a party til 430 in the morning and I got no sleep plus the room next to us was having a domestic and I had to bang on the wall! Never again.

Horrible experience just old and decreped ,I was the only guest for the first two nights.no food except for old hard muffins and bagels ,beds are old and springs stick out.The pics make it look nice it isn't .it was a nightmare was scared out of my mind while I was there. There was blood on the carpet in the hallway, the elevator feels like it might break,I was alone in this place at night . Heard movement above my room when no one was in the building but myself . Heard doors closing also .
Nothing quite like being at a huge old hotel alone it was the scariest experience I have ever had .

Beautiful hotel filled with wonderful woodwork and other artifacts from history that came from all over the place and just stunning. I stayed in the King Suite and it was clean, very huge, and the view was amazing. Will definitely return

Good hotel with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast leaves something to be desired - suggest going to one of Rockford's good breakfast restaurants. View of the river in summer is blocked by foliage. There is a pretty cool wild boar sculpture in the entrance, which the concierge tells me is a replica of one used in a Harry Potter movie. People rub his snout for good luck.

Where do I start.....????

Where do I start.....????
Hmm. Pull up to what seems like an abandoned building. Walk in, grab our keys, open the door to our room and to our wonderful surprise both beds are unmade the room is a mess and the bathroom light is on with toilet seat up. let me also mention it is well past check in time, plenty of time to clean. Breakfast is nonexistent. Not even sure what to say about the underground pool area. Must pay to operate washing machines. Got locked out of our room on the second day it had also been rummaged through dispite the do not disturb sign we left on the door while my brothers and I went to our baseball game. Oh and did I mention there is multiple underground floors that are abandoned and very very dirty/haunted. Let s just say absolutely do not bring your family here, but anyone who wants to have a nice haunted house experience...I recommend visiting the first floor (3 floors underground).

We blocked hotel rooms for our wedding almost a year prior to the actual date. We were told we could start with 15 rooms and once those filled then we could block more. Well we received an email 8 months prior to our wedding telling us that the hotel is now "sold out" due to another event that just booked and we wouldn't be able to block anymore rooms once our rooms we blocked fill even though we're still 8 months out. We have well over 200 guests invited to our wedding with more then half of the guests being from out of town. I would never recommend any to block rooms here for a wedding or event!!! This is terrible customer service and we had booked well before this new group.

We booked a wedding for April over a year ago. We loved the view of the river and the nice large deck. The night before our wedding we were told that the deck was closed due to safety concerns (after we gave them a certified check). During the reception they ran out of tonic?? Food was good but that was about it. Bathrooms were out of order, guests complained about the rooms - still waiting for a refund which was promised over a month ago. I cannot begin to tell you the disappointment we have had regarding this situation. Rude staff, nobody cares and it is all because management staff sucks the big one. If you have something booked here cancel it now or suffer the disappointment we did.

Not sure if some of these reviews were prior to the entire hotel renovation or not, but currently this place is one of the best places you'll stay for the price. Big hot breakfast free, complimentary cocktails ( mon- wed) all rooms updated and very clean. Staff very helpful and friendly, all on a location that sits right on the Rock River. I had stayed here prior, and there were some sketchy areas to this place, but not now

We checked in to the Honeymoon Suite at Cliffbreakers last night. I don t think I ve ever been more disappointed with a hotel room. I ve been told this hotel was something wonderful 20 years ago, unfortunately this is no longer the case. Cliffbreakers is now a complete and total dive. I m guessing the owners are just allowing it to run in to the ground before they board up the doors and windows. The place is falling apart. Our suite once had a gas fire place and Jacuzzi. Both are still present in the room, however, neither of them work. The tub has drainage issues. The furniture is in shambles. The wall paper is peeling in the room and throughout the hotel. This place is borderline condemned. If you re expecting a pleasant room for a special occasion, do not book at this hotel.

We booked a room on their website ave drove from 4 hours away to find that since we were not essential workers we could not stay there. Nice job letting us know before we drove so far. Terrible place.

Wow! Just wow! From the outside you would not expect the beauty inside. The place is full of antiques from all over. Pet friendly. Very clean and the staff was great. The front desk clerk showed us a room that was a grand suite and the furnishings were unbelievable. Neighborhood is sketchy but you can walk to a decent Mexican restaurant.

We ate here on Thanksgiving and were not impressed. It was filthy. The food was less than mediocre and not worth the price. There were very few choices, which would be fine if the food was good quality, but it was not. The pies were clearly store bought and the meat was dry with an awkward taste. The only positive is that the staff were kind and smiled when you talked to them.

Still a great view. I ordered a wedge salad. It was served with about a teaspoon of dressing. Guess they thought I needed to lose weight. My wife had a cheddar beer soup that was watery. The decor is extremely dated. The whole place needs a makeover.

The place appeared a little "tired", but it also appeared to be the best of the Rockford area. Some of the decorations in the hotel were unique. I spent some time just walking around in the lobby and halls looking and reading the unique items that decorated the common areas. The staff were very polite, helpful and agreeable. Breakfast was a nice buffet with omelettes to order.
The dining room had probably the best and very unique river view, although somewhat restricted because of the unique scene. The scene was under a huge Oak tree which had massive branches and draped branching and leaves down towards the water as a veil for the morning sun, which would have been intense coming in the window otherwise. The light coming through the leaves was attenuated enough so you had a very clear view of the drape and color of the leaves, but were not overwhelmed by direct or reflected sunlight which otherwise in the morning would come flooding in through the window intensely. I could sit there for a long time and did linger some to absorb this wonderful scene of the interior of that huge and beautiful Oak Tree. It was very restive to watch the river go by and the slight movement of the leaves in the heavy air in the early morning. I include an image of a part of this scene. Unfortunately we did not have a view out towards the river from our room otherwise I might have lingered too long to accomplish what needed doing. If you go to Rockford you need to stay here. It is charming.

Stayed for about a week during a family emergency, and they were awesome. They have good food, as well as being close to lots of food and shops in Rockford. Can't beat being on the river!

The guy who works overnight is awesome!
