My husband and i have been here several times and have always had a wonderful experience. Rooms are beautiful, and very clean. The hotel has had a huge renovation. The desk clerk at nite "Shannon" has done an outstanding job taking care of us. She is friendly, helpful, and so kind. She remembers our names and our little puppy too. She has a very positive attitude and does her job well!!

Recently needed a place to stay for two nights and didn't want to pay a fortune. This place was very decent and near freeways, food, and shopping. I would stay here again. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The air conditioner worked. There were no problems with the bathroom.

DO NOT STAY HERE!
DO NOT STAY HERE!
I recently stayed at the Cliffbreakers Hotel in Rockford over Labor Day Weekend in room 214.
During my 3-night stay the hot water in my shower did not work. The phone in my room was broken, and the two treadmills in the gym were broken as well.
My biggest concern was the hot water though, which is a basic necessity.
I made the front desk aware of the water situation Friday evening. I was told it would be looked into. I was gone all day Saturday, when I returned to my room, the hot water in the shower was still not working. I notified the front desk on this issue once again, and was told it was being looked into.
Luckily as it was Labor Day weekend I didn t spend too much time in my room. The problem was never fixed, I was never given another room with working hot water.
Upon check out, I shared my frustration with the front desk and asked that a refund be applied to my room for the inconvenience.
I was told by Derrick at the front desk there was nothing he could do, but he would let the manager know and have him contact me to discuss a refund.
The hotel manager Casey never contacted me. On Wednesday I contacted him. Upon speaking to the manager he spoke to me in a condescending tone as if I was lying about the situation. He told me he would have maintenance check into it and get back with me.
He contacted me few hours later and told me the hot water in the room was working. I expressed, how his maintenance and staff neglected to check into the situation during my stay, and how my complaints were documented several times. Throughout the whole ordeal he treated me as if I was lying, which is TERRIBLE customer service from any member of management on any level.
For compensation, I was offered a free night stay, which I declined; I have no interest in ever staying at this establishment. When I asked for a refund Casey notified me he couldn t do this (I ve never heard of a manager who can t issue a refund) and he put the problem onto his General Manager whom he said would be contacting me.
I never heard from the GM on this establishment. I was never issued not even a refund.
I typically stay away from writing reviews, but this in the worst consumer experience I ve ever experienced. If you re staying in Rockford, spend your money elsewhere, Cliff Breakers does not care about it s customers.
I also discovered from research, this hotel would be undergoing new ownership soon, which has me feeling even more mislead. I m considering reporting this establishment to the Better Business Bureau.

This place has so much potential. We had a nice stay while visiting my father in the hospital. However, their free "breakfast" was not what you would expect. They only served hot foods on the weekends and during the week, it seemed like they served the leftover bagels, etc. The coffee was good--as long as staff kept up on it and didn't have an attitude when asked about making more. With the exception of one desk clerk, the staff was friendly and helpful.
The room itself was nice with a great view of the river and housekeeping only missed our room the last day we were there--we did travel with 2 little ones in diapers though, so it was a bit stinky in our room that last night. But those girls were really sweet so I can totally overlook it.
The property could use some sprucing up (the pool area and landscaping, in particular) but, according to rumor, Cliffbreakers has been in the process of switching owners and/or was awarded a hefty grant towards refurbishing the building--I look forward to seeing the improvements!
The only other complaints our party had to do with the bar closing early (but it was slow and as previous servers we understand that sometimes it's just not worth it) and concierge was grossly under stocked--there was only laundry detergent!--and for not having any vending machines, that was a real bummer.

They are still remodeling and everyone seems to be staying on the first floor. The room we stayed at has high ceilings and a modern finish. I went with my dog and because there are high ceilings my dog's occasional bark echoed which made me very self conscious of how loud he could be. Overall, it was an alright experience.

Beautiful inside, well kept, had pool to ourselves, and a delicious breakfast including bacon, eggs, and pastries. Only objection would be a loud guest above us.

We checked in but ended up leaving because they have no rooms with bathtubs, none in the whole place. The room itself was nice if you don't need a tub. The staff was kind & promptly checked us out and our card was never charged. I hope the renovations bring back the jacuzzi tubs & we will definitely be back. We found a nice hotel with a jacuzzi a few miles down for about the same price.

It was a lovely room with a view of the river. Fitness center was kept a bit hot. Hallway noise was easily heard. The key slider to the door also stopped registering the key card on the third night but was promptly fixed.

View from room on sort of dump. Unfriendly staff in the morning. Breakfast sucks, no coffee, no bread to toast. Lady on the desk is boring herself, doesn't have a look at the breakfastroom.

Hotel needs much renovation. Water stains on ceiling. We opted for a room with a view. Not worth it! Windows dirty on the outside. Our travel kept us away from home longer then we expected. We needed to wash some clothing. Unfortunately, no laundry detergent is sold on the premises. Towels were very stiff. Felt like I was washing with a scrubbing pad. Breakfast consists of donuts, coffee and cereal. Stayed last year and had a wonderful selection of hot and cold edibles. What a difference a year can make. Stay away from this one!!!

Went to Rockford for a soccer tournament. Some rooms didn't have sheets, they ran out of towels, no hot water, bugs. Staff was great but the facility needs a lot of work. Also located in a questionable part of town.

Pros:
Pros:
- Looks fantastic inside! Interior has a historic feel to it. Appears to have been recently remodeled and it all looks great. Including the rooms.
- Front desk staff was very helpful.
- Room cost was reasonable.
Cons:
The only complaint I have is with some minor housekeeping issues...
- when we arrived, the drawers on the dresser were open, a chair cushion was flipped up, and the toilet seat was up...was housekeeping in a hurry? Or didn't finish? It's minor but, a bad look.
- one of the white washcloths was discolored. I'm sure it was clean but, I've been to lots of hotels and have never run into a discolored anything. (Have always wondered how they keep them so white though but, that's a different story.)
- the room smelled a bit like smoke - someone had clearly been smoking in the upstairs bathroom (yes, our room had two levels and two bathrooms). I don't know how hotels get rid of that smell but, it ruins the stay if they don't.
- and then housekeeping came to clean earlier than I would expect (945am). So we asked them to come back 45min later (because we were leaving then) and she was clearly not ok with that, but said she would. She then came back in 30min - obviously we hadn't left because it hadn't been 45min so I told her we'd just take a couple extra towels. With a little attitude she said, oh is that all you needed? There are nicer ways to treat your guests.
All in all, I would bet 9 out of 10 stays at this hotel would be five stars. It's a fun and unique hotel! I would recommend it.

Amazing place, great decor and room. Our reservation got eaten in the internet, and they took care of it, and upgraded our room to boot. Great food in the restaurant (the tortellini pomadoro is amazing and the house dressing - white French with a touch of garlic - is a new favorite). We will 100% be back!

The hotel is old and worn out. From first appearances it looks shoddy. The carpeting had bleached spots and streaks as well as mold from water. The rooms were dusty and spider filled. The dining area looked like it had never been cleaned. Dust all over the mini fridge unit. The breakfast consisted of old danishes and muffins. Bagels and cereal as well as rock hard biscuits and flavorless gravy.
The banquet hall is no better. During the wedding a water pipe broke outside the banquet Vanderbilt room and the fire alarns went off for 15 minutes forcing the wedding to a halt for an hour while we stood outside in the heat until the firemen said it was okay to go back in. I paid 240 after tax for two nights in a hotel that was worth 120 for two nights. I've had better stats at a super 8. The whole upstairs half is under construction but I doubt it's been actively worked on for weeks.

This used to be the best place in rockford . From the food to the rooms . Its sad to see Rockford lose all of its land marks . They have no vending . So no bottle water soda snack . Your s.o.l. . Forgot my toothbrush they dont have any . My room wasnt clean nor the hallway. Look at how bad the carpets is stained . I was mad but you cant get mad at the workers they are they for a paycheck. Dont go its better option . They say they under renovations well correct but you leave rooms dirty

The Shining! We loved the historic decor, and hope the remodeling they are doing does not kill the vibe. The staff were gentle and helpful while our chaotic families stayed a weekend in April 2017 for a wedding.

We'd thought we made a huge mistake not doing more research before booking and the lack of email confirmation when doing so should have been a red flag. The hotel is right by a strip mall, I wouldn't even attempt to classify this place as a resort.
We got here 30 minutes before check-in and were turned away, which is fine. We decided to walk around the grounds to check the place out. There's nowhere to go. Walking around to the Riverside results in a no-path, no view of the backside of a hotel in complete disarray.
When we finally got into the room, we were relieved to find it clean and in decent shape, so thanks for that! There were some kids on the floor above us shaking the chandelier in the room (yes! There's a chandelier in 322!), but hardly the hotel's fault.
I was going with one star, but the room's condition helped.

Really thought Jack Nicholson might pop out as the long hallways gone on forever like the Shining! I love that they play classic rock through speakers through the hallways. The beds are awesome...the hotel is run down and not in a great area. The breakfast in pretty nonexistent...instant oatmeal, yogurt and some fruit. Coffee is bad...however, there is something about the place. The staff is super friendly and there's clearly some history to the hotel. It needs major updating but if I was in town for a similar event (soccer tourney) and needed a spot, I would book again.

Revena was a amazing front desk clerk! Here from michigan on job offer and loved the hotel! Very clean and nice, the bed was very comfortable and cozy! Had a very nice stay unfortunately being a 3rd shifter we didnt get to try the breakfast out but heard another couple talking and i guess we missed out. Sounded very nice. Also the entire building was kept clean and has a beautiful entrance. Only thing i didnt like was that the only way n and out was threw the front door, also the snacks and drinks were high priced. My husband and i bought 2 sweet teas and it was 7.50. Thats a little high for tea thats 1.80 in the store. Other than that had a amazing stay and enjoyed chatting with Revena waiting for our room to come threw on exspedia!

This hotel is awesome. The decor is elegant and one of a kind. The staff are some of the most personable people I have ever met. I was on my honey-moon n they upgraded my room for free...thanks to Hannah. The suite I ended up with was amazing. A view of the river, two stories I felt like I was in a luxury condo. Great location. I will be coming back. Rent a room from this place and be thrilled with kindness and quality.

The lobby and our room were good. Spacious room with modern appeal. The bathroom sink and toilet looked clean, but the floor had a half-dozen long, dark hairs on it the first time I stepped in. Other room doors slamming kept me up all night.

Gee, where do I start. we wanted a room with a river view and all we got was great big bushes. You were unable to open the windows to get fresh air. There were holes in the wall in the room, hallway, and elevator. The TV barely worked. The hole experience was very un inviting. During check out the front staff ask how everthing was I stated it was fair and they didn't seem to care. I got a 1/2 smile, giggle and then my bill. One of the curtains in the room was broken, and the coach was torn. This was the worst hotel experience that I have ever had in my 44 years of life. This was my first visit and will be my last and will never recommend this place at all. the only thing that saved this small relaxing weekend was time spent at the Anderson Japanese garden.

Very unprofessional. Worked a long day in telecommunications through storm conditions just wanted to come back to the hotel to relax and the front desk lady was very unprofessional and rude. Turned away our entire crew because our make were wet and not on. We've stayed there multiple times in the last 3 months to get treated in such a poor manner. Canceled reservations and will not go back. Along with stained carpets, dipper pained windows with 1 pain broken out by that never bothered us. This was just an unacceptable transaction. Not sorry for your loss of that's the way you want to run your business.

What a horrible place! The entire hotel was falling apart...literally... tape holding wall paper in place! Tile floors, carpet, All filthy and stained. Cobwebs in our rooms. The staff came to one of our rooms at midnight and asked us to move rooms because they made a mistake. The pool was disgusting. Can't even see the bottom.

Nothing personal. it is simply not worth of 200 dollars per night. The rooms are spacious but interior is kind of cheap and rooms look empty. The walls are plain. Bathroom did not look clean. We found long dark hairs in the bathtub. Pool is very small and I am afraid that gray stains on the ceiling were stains of mold. The carpet in the corridor is all stained. The staff was very friendly. If I would pay bellow 100 I would be perfectly happy about the room.

This is my second time staying at Cliffbreakers and it's a decent place. It could use a little TLC and elbow grease but the price is right and it has charm! Little things like cleaning carpets, replacing discolored ceiling tiles, etc would go a long was to polish it up and help not look as shabby. I can see the beauty in the building and hopefully renovations will happen soon. In the meantime I'll take the good pricing and clean bed.

The rooms are beautiful. Comfortable and clean. Lovely view of the river. My family was woken up at 3am to two unrequested wake up calls. There was no luggage cart available the morning of check out and that made it difficult for me because I am disabled. We had 3 adults and 2 pets that we had to pack and load. We had to make several trips to the 4th floor and down to our car because of no luggage cart. There are not much food options in the area (not the hotels fault) so just plan for that. This was our second time staying here, but we will not come back.
