The place appeared a little "tired", but it also appeared to be the best of the Rockford area. Some of the decorations in the hotel were unique. I spent some time just walking around in the lobby and halls looking and reading the unique items that decorated the common areas. The staff were very polite, helpful and agreeable. Breakfast was a nice buffet with omelettes to order.
The dining room had probably the best and very unique river view, although somewhat restricted because of the unique scene. The scene was under a huge Oak tree which had massive branches and draped branching and leaves down towards the water as a veil for the morning sun, which would have been intense coming in the window otherwise. The light coming through the leaves was attenuated enough so you had a very clear view of the drape and color of the leaves, but were not overwhelmed by direct or reflected sunlight which otherwise in the morning would come flooding in through the window intensely. I could sit there for a long time and did linger some to absorb this wonderful scene of the interior of that huge and beautiful Oak Tree. It was very restive to watch the river go by and the slight movement of the leaves in the heavy air in the early morning. I include an image of a part of this scene. Unfortunately we did not have a view out towards the river from our room otherwise I might have lingered too long to accomplish what needed doing. If you go to Rockford you need to stay here. It is charming.
