Beautiful location, service is a little spotty but the manager Sean makes up for any poor service received. He's a God sent. Had lunch with friends and the bartender and server who proceeded to greet and serve us with sunglasses on (rude) really tarnished the experience with their lack of smiles and just pure attitude as if we were inconveniencing them. But Sean swooped in and uplifted the entire experience. Hopefully they get staffing soon. Sean is the only reason we will continue to patronize Limewood and the Claremont.

We spent our wedding night at the claremont. I was quite impressed with the hotel staff. They were very welcoming, attentive and caring. Made us feel very comfortable. The hotel offers the typical amenities but on a higher scale and for me, I don't care to much for valet parking, room service or spa treatments.

The hotel concierge gifted us a bottle of wine and a welcome note when we walked into our room.

The hotel it self is like any other, rooms are the same as any other but the "Club" part is a great addition. The pool area is great to relax in and enjoy the afternoon.

I would stay here again if I desired.

Old world hotel. Didn't stay or eat there but I've stayed at other Fairmont properties and this had the same vibe. Dropped off a friend's wife for an event and we walked around the place before leaving. I do need to add it's not my kind of place therefore 3*.

We enjoyed dinner and drinks at the Claremont bar and Limewood restaurant. Our fabulous server, Ates, took great care of us all evening with all of our many requests and special diet requirements.

Needed a break from the work grind in SF and the "urban escape" appealed to me. Great views, diverse guests, warm weather compared to SF and the kiddie pool for my toddler was great. Extra bonus, the showers are AMAZING! Left feeling relaxed for the upcoming work week and the drive back to SF isn't bad on a Sunday night in the summer. Can't wait for my next escape. :)

I had stayed at the Claremont many times through out the years! and always enjoyed it, never complained about the prices!!!
Upon arriving.... the front entrance was closed off to renovation and we could see that our favorite
restaurant was closed as well...there was a makeshift check in counter down a side door so we checked in, gentleman said elevator was down the hall, NEVER mentioned that it only works going up not down....the next morning we leave to go to Oakland Airport.....carrying our luggage down 4 flights of stairs through major construction areas that I wasn't even sure we were supposed to be walking through! make it to the check out counter and complained about our $400 room a night experience and asked for some sort of compensation for the inconvenience, he said that he would have management contact me, which of course NEVER happened....so I called back a week later after our vacation to speak to a manager about the situation and that gave me a name of the woman who handles these complaints, I left a message and of course was NEVER called back!

Absolutely the worst customers service of any hotel that I have stayed at
and would never recommend or stay there again!

Warning !!! Their pool is now a separate private entity! If you stay at this hotel your guest cannot come meet you at the pool, even if they're not swimming or plan to be there long. That's right, if your friends come by the hotel to meet you and you're at the pool they will not be allowed in, even just to find you. Do you remember the days when a hotel could afford their own pool???
Well apparently the Claremont isn't financially stable enough for that kind of thing.
It's a shame too because all of the employees I have had exchanges with were exceptionally nice and that was on my many multiple Previous visits. Sadly, I won't be going there again until they can afford their own pool.

Afternoon tea at the lobby, they accommodate plant based teabirds like me .... and will create a special trio- plate for vegan or any other dietary needs, though sometimes the service can be slower than expected.

The hotel is an old grand dame. The rooms are adequate. The internet service was free but erratic. It felt like they want the guests to upgrade for $10 additional a day. The restaurants were great. Quality of food was great. Service was excellent overall. Would I return, No!

This is truly a wonderful place to nurse a glass of wine or have a cup of tea and a bite to eat and have conversation later in the evening, when the noisy dinner crowd has died down. You can also grab a blanket on a chilly night and take in the Oakland night view. Truly magical.

We would not repeat a visit to the Claremont based on our experience. The check in experience was painfully slow and the "manager" at our check in was quite rude and held a very unpleasant and unfriendly attitude. In addition, while we were "trying" to check in (which took 20 minutes b/c of the slow staff), our car which was sitting in front was taken away, luggage taken out of the trunk, and parked by the valet b/c we were told it had sat there too long. Meanwhile, it had only sat there a very long time b/c we had such a hard time getting serviced to check in. Our personal belongings (cell phones, computers, iPod, etc), where still in the car, and they had simply taken it away and parked it. In addition, when I went to print my boarding pass the next day, the woman at the front desk spoke to me so RUDELY and told me to go to the business center. I tried the business center, and only one computer was working. When I went back to the front desk, this same woman practically snapped my paper reservation out of my hand and said it is IMPOSSIBLE that only one computer is working. Her attitude was so impossibly rude. Finally, the rooms feel very dated. The heat/air conditionining system really needs to be updated! Oh, and the walls are "paper thin". We heard the kids/baby in the room next to us screaming all night practically got no sleep as a result. Oh, and the gym is nothing impressive at all. The machines are all dated and there is not enough equipment for everyone who is trying to get in a work out.

The Spa is fairly nice, at $60 for a full days access to their amenities (swedish showers, steam room, jacuzzi, deluge shower, relaxation room). However, it can be not so relaxing if you happen to go at the same time as many other women which seems to be often the case. It always seems a bit crowded during the summer holiday.

Had a terrific time in the bar overlooking the bay area. Enjoyed the ambiance of the Hillary-Tenzing room. Eventually we made our way to the Limewood restaurant and had a fantastic meal. We will return.

I have been to the Meritage at the Claremont before, when it was still called Jordans. My earlier experience was much nicer. The service I got from this experience seemed like the same service I would get at a regular restaurant. The steak was good but not memorable.

Massive turn of the century landmark is now a first rate hotel, spa and health club with a spread of tennis courts, pools and workout rooms surrounding "the elegant lady". Rooms are adequate, the service and the food in the restaurants top notch. Great kids pools

The Hope Diamond of Berkeley in yesteryear. Rooms ...

The Hope Diamond of Berkeley in yesteryear. Rooms of the past subdivided to make more money, some abhorrent roll-off type additional units now adorning the lower western grounds, giving the definite feel of a cheap highway motel. White privilege still abounds with feel of Hemingway in wartime. Maybe this should be only three stars....

Beautiful place, nice bars but pool and hot tub were too far away from hotel. Plus, day spa area was too small, felt hard to breath with all the heat in the bathrooms, sauna and spa. Picture below is from the pool area.

Used to go here for Sunday buffet and it was great. They have a restaurant and bar now and it has excellent food and very attentive waiters. The view is awesome...straight out toward the city and the golden gate!

If you're looking for a luxury hotel with a wealth...

If you're looking for a luxury hotel with a wealth of history, the Claremont Hotel and Spa is your place! Nestled in the Berkeley hills, the hotel is a true Bay Area landmark. Its architecture is so striking that the hotel can be spotted from across the bay in San Francisco. Each room is beautiful. Some have views of the San Francisco skyline while others have views of the wooded hills.

I attended my mom's wedding here last summer and was thoroughly impressed with the accommodations the staff provided. There are two restaurants on the premises so even if you're coming from out of town for the weekend, you have a variety of options for dining. In the summertime, you can enjoy the Claremont's pool - a rare find on the bay - and catch some sun.
