They get TWO stars (as opposed to NO star) because the overnight staff and the day staff NOT at the front desk are GREAT!
But the FRONT DESK staff that's on between 3pm and 5pm need to be replaced or retrained. However, given that my "inconveniences" could have been handled with a little "courtesy and common sense" I doubt that training will address the issue. You can bank on the following by this group of stellar individuals;
1) being ignored when you walk to the desk
2) being given less than an honest answer to a simple query
3) being given a partial answer to a simple question, which forces you to ask several questions to still end up with a partial answer.

The POSITIVES of the hotel.
1) the rest of the staff (staff NOT at the front desk between hours listed above) are great.
2) the rooms are clean and comfortable
3) the lobby is inviting
4) parking for large vehicles is ample (if not attractive)

What would I suggest if you MUST stay there?
1) Carry your own food (as there is no food in the hotel)
2) Be prepared to pay the extra to UBER/LYFT for every meal
3) Drive your own car for every meal
4) Finally, try not to have any questions that would require you to interact with the staff that's on between 3pm and 5pm (I know! That's not possible).

TO BE FAIR
1) I'm told there is/was a deli in the hotel but they had some "emergency" and were closed or have been closed and will be closed several days.
2) They do have a list of restaurants at the front desk (but apparently no menus)
2a) At least two of the restaurants on the list have suspect sanitation and I wouldn't order bottled water there. How do I know? I walked there and had to walk out.

STOLEN ITEM FROM ROOM !!!

STOLEN ITEM FROM ROOM !!!

I stayed here for the weekend Oct 6-8, 2017
No problems with staff. Pleasant. Easy access to public transportation.

We checkout early around 830am Oct 8 and drive the 5 hours back home.
I noticed that I had forgotten a pillow and my Samsung galaxy tablet.
I immediately called the hotel to inform them and was forwarded to a voicemail for housekeeping.
Someone calls me back on Monday and tells me they have my pillow but no tablet found. They'll check lost and found and call me back. No call back. I call Tuesday and speak to a manager who says we have your pillow. Again no tablet.
So I contact Google ,who traces my tablet to see that it was reset on Sunday Oct 8th at 12:53 pm meaning the only people with access to my room was housekeeping.
Housekeeping manager says she will call me back. It's Thursday. Still waiting.

I do not recommend staying here.

The room is big and i gotta say that i liked the tub in the bathroom it's huge. The room was clean and was provided with almost everything i wanted. The most important thing is that parking is free.

Awesome! Loved the large rooms with refrigerators included. Beautiful large bathrooms. Front desk people very nice! I liked it better than the Crown Plaza. Some in my group did not like the parking situation which is an open lot. Lobby nice too.

The staff here is very courteous and friendly. Donnie made several recommendations of things to do in the area while I was here. The hotel is in good condition. Had no issues with dirtiness or uncleanliness whatsoever. The hotel maintenance guy (don't remember his name) was also very friendly and helped me with a few key card issues I was having.

Overall, a very good place to stay. They also have a little cafe in the hotel where you can get breakfast, coffee, etc. Comes in handy. There are not a lot of restaurants around to eat at. Its about a 15 minute walk or a short $5 cab/uber/lyft ride to shopping, food, etc.

I would stay here again. The one thing I think they need to upgrade is the key cards to the doors. If they touch a magnet or your cell phone, they stop working. I had to have my door key reactivated 3-4 times while I was there. Other than that, everything was great!

May be the nicest reasonable priced hotel on the close south side of Chicago. 1/4 mile from the "red" and or "green" elevated train makes getting to downtown attractions easy, quick, and cheap. $2.50 on the day I was there. "El" train goes right byMcCormick Palace and Bear's Soldier's Field. FREE PARKING folks....a rarity in Chicago.

Toenails... I dont ever leave bad reviews but this place's room service was particularly aweful. I also dont really use room service but I checked in and noticed that I had no shower soap and there were huge toenails on the side of me bed. So I decides that room service was definitely necessary. After day 1, I got back to my hotel room and notices that things were relatively cleaned up but there was still zero soap and the toe nails were still there. It was too late by this time and I had to be at work early, so I decided to wait until the next day...where there was still no soap and plenty of toe nails when I got back. I brought this ups to the front counter and they were kind enough to provide soap. Long story short, after 7 nights, bringing the toe nails up a few times and even leaving a kind reminder about the toe nails, in the form of a written message they were still there. The final day my room was not even touched.
There was also a toenail by the water dispenser in their gym. I promise I am not making this up and have no reason to write such a review other than to litterally let Chicago South Loop know to up your room service staffing or procedures.

The Chicago South Loop Hotel is a hidden gem in the Windy City.
Our brief stay was luxurious and comfortable, while still being affordable.
I had a great time in the pool downstairs, and woke up each morning to a delicious meal in the Coffee Cafe. Try the veggie wrap!
There are plenty of facilities to suit your every travel need. Beds were comfy, not too stiff, and the air conditioner was ice cold!
I will definitely be booking again upon returning to the city for work.

This Hotel Is Wonderful!! The Staff Was Friendly The Rooms Were Very Comfortable And Clean. The Bathroom Was Nice Too. Also Loved The Free Parking. Definitely Would Recommend This Hotel To My Friends. Peace And Quiet With Everything From Restaurants And Downtown Within A 10 min Radius. Will Stay Here Again.

We booked the Chicago South Loop Hotel
last minute. The staff were always kind and helpful, the room was very spacious with plenty of room to unpack and walk around, and the free gated parking was a wonderful perk! That said, there were a few things that need improvement. The bathroom had complementary conditioner and body wash, but no shampoo or Kleenex tissues. We were only given one package of regular coffee each day, which meant one person went without each morning. The cleaning person threw away a plastic water bottle sitting on the night stand that still had water in it (which I'd intended to use again), and the lamps were very dusty/dirty. I would probably stay here one more time if needed, however the CSLH will not be my first choice next time through Chicago.

The Rooms are Clean, Front desk, housekeeping and concierge are ALL helpful and very polite. Everyone at this hotel will go out their way to make sure you're completely satisfied. Food downstairs, They provide hygiene items if you forgot yours, Wifi on point, fitness center and they have a salon for the female guests. I would recommend staying here, I would certainly come back.

Overall my stay was pretty good. The hotel borders some questionable areas, but the hotel itself is in a nice location. Rooms are nice as well, with comfy beds and nice furniture. The TV in our room, unfortunately, did not work very well at all. It has a decent exercise facility, but unfortunately no pool. Only stayed one night and checked out relatively early in the morning, so we didn't have any experience with room service or the like. Overall, would recommend if you can get a room for a decent price and aren't planning on spending all your time in the hotel.

My only complaint, which isn't a real issue but more a recommendation to management, is to add grab bars for entry into the deep soaker tub/shower. Also nice to have a small microwave in the room rather than go to the business center on the main floor. Room was very nice, clean. Besides beds, our room also had a small sofa and chair as extra seating.

The location was great, the service excellent, and the rooms big enough. However, for whatever reason the cry of a baby on top on my head lasted several hours, and I could not sleep.
I know that the building has been renovated ten years ago, so I do not know how good the insulation between floor is, or maybe nothing could have stopped the crying of a very tired baby from traveling from floor to floor (it sounded the same type of crying like another baby that I also have the pleasure to listen when I flew from Netherlands to USA. He cried non stop for hours).

I usually stay downtown Chicago, but found a good deal here for this last trip. It's an area that isn't as "posh" as dt, but I felt safe while here. I saw a tourist review that stated they were appalled that the projects were right across the street. The "projects" turned out to look like a pretty decent apartment building, complete with potted plants on some of the balconies. Chinatown is within walking distance. Three Happiness is a great stop for dim sum. The hotel itself was bustling with guests and literally every staff member looked happy and said hello when running into them in hallways. I'd stay there again.

Stay away. My room was never cleaned, loud and uncomfortable environment. This place should be called hotel soul plane! Worst hotel experience I have ever had. I booked through Hotwire and they would not allow me to post my review because it was toobhonest. In all honesty, you are better off with Airbnb than this motel quality establishment. The only benefit of this place is that the wifi worked well and a convent bus line is across the street.

Beautiful room, reasonable price, AMAZING bath tub! I'm super tall (5'11) and I could stretch my legs out wich doesn't happen often. The sides came up to my armpits! It was just what I needed after a long day.
The staff was very friendly and the beds were incredibly comfy with nice fluffy pillows. I will stay here every time I come to Chicago!

I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. Aesthetically very pleasing, plenty of parking, clean, spacious rooms, great TVs, nice showers... the list goes on. What I d really like to highlight is the staff - incredibly friendly and professional (even at late hours), and had great recommendations on where to go for food and fun. I will absolutely be returning to the Chicago South Loop hotel, and will be recommending to my friends!

You know, even though the system was down upon arrival, none of the vending was functional and the fire alarm went off one morning; The Chicago South Loop Hotel was a fantastic experience. The AC worked well, the staff was friendly and the rooms were sizable. I also thoroughly enjoyed the shower in my room. I would recommend this hotel to travelers. There's also insanely good Mexican food right down the street.

The Hotel itself is nice - Location, rooms. However the customer service is awful. The majority of the desk staff was nice but the problem is that it took way too long to respond to issues. There was an issue with the A/C and after 40 minutes or so they sent someone up. Then housekeeping never came so I called the desk and was told they have left for the day but they could send someone up with towels and to take out the trash. No one ever came. So I made the bed and noticed the comforter had old blood stains and some other unidentified stain as well. The gated entrance to the parking lot was always open because the exit gate was broken. I also kept smelling sewage from the bathroom. For some reason the windows in the hallway were opened the entire 3 days of my stay and the hallway was ridiculously hot - my glasses fogged up when I walked out of the room. I also noticed trash sitting in the hallway next to a room. I think the people in the room got annoyed and moved it by the janitors closet a few hours later. Then on the day I was checking out my flight got delayed and I called to ask for a late check out and was actually told "we can't because of housekeeping." Which was annoying since housekeeping apparently does not clean all of the rooms. I would definitely not pay to stay here again.

The emails about the event did not have any instructions about the parking, other than it would be $5. I tried to pull up to the front doors but ended up having to back out because a car was not pulling forward as they should have in the driveway. After going around the building, I saw the parking lot off to the side. Once inside we learned there was no $5 fee. However some signs would have been useful. Other than that, the hotel was extremely clean and the decor was great.

Free parking and its just 15 minutes away from downtown. You can't get better deal than this. Room are spacious for Chicago. The surrounding seems shady though it's safe. It feels like you are far away from downtown.

The location is decent, but not great. The room was nice, especially the large tub, but the building is clearly pretty old. The elevators are ridiculously slow. Housekeeping knocked on my door despite a "do not disturb" sign on the door. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. There's no free breakfast - there is a small cafe on the main floor, but it's only open 6 days a week and it was closed one morning of our stay for no apparent reason even though it was one of those six days. There's nothing within easy walking distance, though you can get to the green and red lines if you're willing to walk half a mile. Altogether the stay was nice but I'll probably try to find another option the next time I'm in Chicago.

Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Clean and reasonably maintained hotel for the price. Location is a little sketchy but not far from the downtown area, which is nice with Chicago traffic being what it is.

As far as rooms they're clean and nice. The hotel staff very nice and helpful. Just stayed there on the 24th of November and someone broke into my vehicle and hit the other one the security was on his phone not paying any attention to what was going on even when I was explaining what was missing I was told I'll have to file my own police report and I live out of town

We stayed here for 2 nights as startingpoint for our roadtrip. The 5 nights before we stayed downtown which I personally prefer.

It has a big room though and friendly staff. Neighborhood is quite boring (but quiet at night which is good) ... You can use public transport or Uber to get to downtown and Chinatown is nearby.

There is no restaurant due to renovations but there are alternatives nearby.

The ATM in the lobby gave us a really bad rate.

Overall it's a decent place to stay in if you are looking for a reasonable priced option.
However, the neighborhood was too boring for my liking after having stayed downtown the nights before..

Had problems with the key cards not working when we got back to the room, had to go back and forth between the front desk several times that night. Housekeeping tried to come into the room early, twice, despite us only being there one night and checking out at 11am. Daytime front desk staff were very nice though!

The Chicago South Loop Hotel isn't bad, in the same way questionable leftovers aren't bad when you haven't eaten for 3 days. The hotel posits itself as a gem on the south side, but things rarely work. The door had trouble closing, wires were exposed on the lamps, and the bathroom door was so off-balance it wouldn't latch or lock. There aren't many amenities to choose from (other than a disheveled business center and a "gym"). On the plus side, the rooms are decently sized with a little living room (and a fridge!). The best I can say is it DEFINITELY beats a Days Inn.

Good hotel for the price. Some updates have been performed recently, including the bathroom. Room was for the most part clean but had a smoke smell coming from the heating/a.c. unit and black marks on most of the walls. Holiday inn prices with slightly less quality
