Cantinas is located in a wonderful spot right on passyunk.Sitting outside is by far better than inside as it gets pretty warm inside. It's a little hard to figure the menu out because they try to stick to "Mexican tradition" and keep Spanish in the menu. All of that adds to a special charm so it's fine the only real problem I even have is the service. A friend and I go weekly to have burritos as it's our favorite! But whenever we go the waiters and waitresses are so uninterested. I get everyone has bad days but after coming numerous times, different days and different hours and the same staff is always like that it brings the vibe down. Also the time it takes to get refills is quite honestly appalling. It took 30 minutes to get chips refilled! Worse was that it was a very unbusy Monday. So point is if you're going for food and drinks it's fun just bring a big crowd and don't expect the server to come by often.

Never had a problem in all the many, many, many times I went to eat here. The fish tacos are amazing. The vegan chorizo tacos are REALLY amazing. The chips and salsa are so good I can literally just get full off of those.

Would recommend this place to literally anyone. Great Mexican joint in South Philly.

Awesome mexican food in a fun environment, cant beat the $4 happy hour (4-6pm) margaritas! Plus free chips and salsa the vegan bowl special was REALLY delicious with so many flavor profiles and textures. Service was rather slow in the bar area

I'm from Texas. This is a fantastic Mexican restaurant in the heart of South Philly. Recommendations: Goat Burrito (have them add corn crema on the inside) and... the Cadillac Margarita is the Cadillac of ALL margaritas.

This spot felt like home the moment I walked in. Warm atmosphere, good vibes, courteous employees with genuine smiles. Anthony and the Asst. General Mgr (sorry forgot her name) are just amazing!! Soo hospitable and just overall cool. The bartender was also accommodating and patient!

I was there to do an alcohol promotion with Cazadores Tequila, serving mini samples of jalapeno margaritas and giving out swag! Can't wait to return.

The FOOD was DELISH!!! Sooo fresh, so authentic and savory!!! I ordered small steak nachos with black beans and cheese on the side!! Mmmm-mmm good!! The steak, yess!! Hats off to the kitchen

Bomb tacos, bomb burritos, great salsa verdre, and ridiculously bomb margaritas. Outdoor seating definitely ups the ante. Fantastic for happy hour, dinner, or middle of the workday pick-me-ups.

My husband and I went here for dinner when we were in the area. They were able to seat us immediately (even on a Friday night!) and were very good about bringing us water. I ordered the veggie burrito, which was excellent. The beans and rice in it were particularly flavorful. My husband had quesadillas and thought they were great. The chips and salsa they put on the table were also superb.

The only drawbacks (and my reason for docking a star) were:
1. The pitcher of margaritas we ordered. I expect a $30+ pitcher of margaritas to actually have tequila in it. This tasted like someone had showed the tequila bottle to the pitcher and that's about as close as they got. I'm not saying you should go overboard, but if we're out on a Friday having margs and food and taxiing home, I'd like to actually have my adult beverage be an adult beverage.

2. It was so hot. I know it was an insane heat wave in Philly that weekend, but I was sitting at a table just sweating fiercely and wishing for a ceiling fan.

I'd go again for sure, I'd just give the margaritas a pass and stick to the food.

Great food especially the tacos & burrito. Very filling & a little pricey but so worth the money. The dessert is very good as well! Outdoor dining area is spacious & everyone is more than 6 ft apart

I like this place. The margaritas are good. The food is good sometimes and average other times. The staff can be strange but are mostly friendly and helpful. Tip them well please; especially that tall man that works so hard. The acoustics are terrible indoors, making it too noisy for my ears and to speak with friends. The tables can be cleaner as well. Oftentimes they are sticky. I will go there again for sure though.

The cantina is a suprisingly good and affordably priced mexican style restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic similar to many casual amerimex places. Family friendly is a plus and the.staff is helpful and courteous. Recommended.

Great margarita! I had the El Dorado and it was perfectly balanced between strength and sweet juiciness. The guac was delicious too! Service was friendly and pretty prompt, but it was a little loud for conversation.

I would not refer this restaurant to anybody. I was sat quickly, but was stuck in a back corner when plenty of other tables were available. I sat there for 10 minutes with no service, even though waitress' passed by several times. On our way out, with a sarcastic tone, the staff said "have a great day." Worst experience ever!
Take a walk down the road to the Pub also known as "the pope." Amazing food and the best service ever!

Favorite Mexica restaurant in the city. They have so many options for vegans and vegetarians. The margaritas are also brilliantly concocted and shoot down the gullet like a liquidy first love.

Came in on a Friday afternoon for happy hour. Unfortunately the serving system was down so it took us a while to get drinks. This wasn't particularly a problem but it took a good 5-10 minutes just to get water which seemed unreasonable.

We got guac and drinks, but know they give you chips and salsa for free! The City Wide was a good price and a nice pour but the guac was a bit small for the price asked.

Overall we had an okay time but the service was only okay, even after they had stabilized the system.

EXCELLENT. Food and service outstanding. My only complaint is the door leading to outside seating slams so hard it gave me a bad headache. Please fix it so that I can come back.

A friend and I were scouring Philadelphia for a dining establishment that served elotes or Mexican street corn. After visiting several restaurants in the Passyunk area to no avail, we'd googled that Cantina Los Caballitos had them and made our way there. We joyfully ordered out elotes along with burritos and watermelon margaritas and has a great meal on a humid yet breezy Tuesday evening. Being outside with the breeze was great. The servers were attentive and our orders were able to be customized without issue. The one thing that had bothered me was the table umbrella made it very difficult to look your companion in the eye. I'd noticed they were taking down the umbrellas from other tables and wish they'd asked us if we wanted ours removed. Other than that, the food was great and I'll definitely be heading back next time I need an elote.

Use to be a great place and ppl were friendly. Since the insurgence of other bar/ restaurants the Cantina has become a dirty, washed up spot with sh$$ty service. Stand on the corner of the Cantina and you ll see 4-5 other spots worth your money more than being disappointed like prom night.

Great Mexican food, great staff, and even better company. The bar is usually filled with young hip professionals. You're likely to walk out with a few new friends at this friendly establishment.

Decent food. Not great bar service. Was in with a friend for a couple of beers around 8pm mid-week, bar/bar area was not too full, everyone enjoying conversation with their friends and the bartender jacked up the music so loud my friend and I left with sore throats from having to yell above the music. There's too many other great places on the Avenue for beers where you can have a decent conversation... Probably won't go back unless I can sit outside and eat.

I have given Cantina so many tries over the years and they just always fall short. Terribly unattentive service every time. The food is always greasy and over-priced. I love the Royal and Triangle, but Cantina just always disappoints.

Love this place. Food is great and affordable. They have a nice outdoor area, with a bar available when your waiting for a seat outside too.

Only bad part is that the wait staff isn t great... gotta flag them down for more drinks... and make you wait a long time for your check. Seem to think it s cool to not be very good.

Having been to their sister restuarant in No Libs, I wasn't surprised by anything here. The menu is almost identical. The wait staff was great with dealing with our extrememly large group, the food came out quickly and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. I would definitely be back for the maragaritas and chips if I am ever in the area again.

I've been coming to both Cantina locations for over a decade, Los Caballitos was my first experience and always my preferred location. I planned on going here for a friends birthday only to find out they closed today due to political motivations. It's a shame as it was going to be a happy and fun night with old friends and now we're forced to go elsewhere. Nothing irks me more than when a business can't remain apolitical and chooses to isolate a group of it's customer base. I can no longer recommend dining at their establishment. For those who feel the same, El Camino is a great alternative.
