This is a world class zoo and New York can be proud of it. The animals are well cared for and the emphasis seems to be on giving them as natural a home as possible. The layout is maze like, which makes it feel like you will discover something new around the next bend. On busy days the parking lot can be a pain, but it is New York after all.

Although we went on a rainy day, the Bronx Zoo is quite obviously an amazing zoo. The animals seemed content and there was tons to see. The habitats were plenty large and the animals were well taken care of. The whole experience was great.

The Bronx Zoo is truly a hidden gem in NY. All these years living here, I never realized how amazing this place was. The variety of animals and attractions are perfect. My daughter truly loved being here, seeing all the animals. Highly recommended for anyone that hasn't been here or even for people that have. I will DEFINITELY be coming back.

I'm glad they brought the holiday lights back!

I'm glad they brought the holiday lights back!

Although, I wish we were able to see the animals as well, like at the past holiday light show.

The cons: I think more ice carver stations are needed. There was only 1 person carving the day we visited. The crowd made it to hard to view, especially with a small child.

I like the addition of the train. Maybe have multiple trains at different locations, with a little longer riding time, maybe, please .

I also, enjoyed the costume characters walking around. That was fun.

Lastly, please get the elephant a buddy!!!!!

Always a great walk and sights for all ages. Our whole family enjoys the Bronx Zoo. Kids, grandparents, visiting family are always impressed with the layout, architecture, and size of the zoo. Plenty of deals, events, and more to see than you can fit in one visit.

I absolutely love the Bronx Zoo. They are an accredited zoo who truly love and care about their animals' well being as well as conservation and education efforts around the world. Staff is always friendly and there's always something to do. It's pay-what-you-can admission on Wednesdays and you can buy a pass to see the extras (rides and special exhibits). You can bring your own food or buy theirs. Always a memorable experience.

I visited the zoo around 3 weeks ago on a Saturday with intention of seeing the lights and roasting marshmallows. My family and I did get to do this and it was absolutely fantastic! i really loved the experience but the reason im giving 3 stars is because it took so much time for us to get in even with reservations. We had already paid for our entry but for some reason they couldn't find our electronic reservation until 20 minutes after we got there.

Been 4 times now recently and each experience great (and different). Proximity to NYC is great. It's very well maintained. Hard to believe it's in the middle of an urban area. Membership is totally worth it, esp if u plan to go more than once (or if u visit the zoo in Central Park, Queens or the NY Aquarium).

Went here on a class trip. The staff their are wonderful they are so nice and helpful and informative. This is my second time their and both times were great experiences. All the animals here look healthy and happy. The gorilla section is always my favorite they are just so happy and funny. Will continue to go back.

Everything is great except i would nit recommend buying the double cheeseburger, its terrible. The park is huge and you may not be able to see everything in a day. They close d at 5 today.

Wonderful zoo!! So happy to have this piece of nature in NYC. Went during Columbus Day and the parking lot was super crowded but the zoo is large enough where everyone can spread out and won't feel overwhelming. Get the total experience ticket option to access all rides and attractions, its just over $10 more than general admission. When getting in line for the monorail, take the left option when the line splits vs the right if given the choice, that line goes quicker. Amazing place for kids of all ages.

Much fun. I went with BarbaraD and family. The lines were long but we had a membership so we skipped. There are a lot of cool birds. I recommend seeing the elephant and rhinos at the safari tram. Barbara D has never seen a rhino so up close before. The tigers are my second favorite. We really got to look at the upclose. But my first favorite was my tram ride. Very long walks but beautiful landscape. Really doesn t feel like you re in the city. Barbara D s younger sister is a zoologist! She says that this zoo is one of the best zoos in the US. It s the biggest urban zoo in the US and it sure does feel like it!

Absolutely loved it!! We went on a Wednesday so it was free. The experiences like Bug Carousel, Monorail, and the gorilla enclosure are still an extra price though. $6 for a single experience or about $24 for everything. We paid for the gorilla enclosure and felt that it was totally worth it. Next time would pay for the Monorail because it's the only way you can see the elephants as far as I could tell. All the other reviews are right, it's A LOT of walking, so definitely wear comfortable shoes. I didn't feel it was overcrowded so I'm happy we went when entrance is free.

Nice zoo but to great. Few of animals are there and also not ao many. Ticket prices are too high but they don't have enough things to show compare to the money. Overall good. You can spend your afternoon here.

Great for adults and kids. Lots of animals, especially in the buildings. Superb Gorillas experience, don't miss it. Take the time to visit the bird building as well, it's usually not crowded at all but definitely deserves the detour. Do not eat there though, unless you want to buy overpriced unhealthy fast food (seriously, this is ridiculous)

Visited in the winter. Many of the animals weren't around because it was too cold for them to be outside. They were also clearly taking advantage of the off season to update exhibits and renovate. However, tickets were cheaper and there weren't any crowds, so it's definitely a trade-off

Amazing as ever, on free or paid days. Only the most whiney, easily irritates people with emotional defects will complain about free days because of a few extra people. I just went in april and again june on a free day and there was NO overcrowding. Most workers are ghetto as hell and barley work, just sit on thr phone all day and shake their asses, but the Animals look great and that is all i go for.

The best zoo we've been to in the east coast! Though some of the exhibit weren't open until the following month, which was a bummer cause they were the best ones, but it definitely made us wanting to come back. So we'll definitely be coming back!

1. Liars! Shame on you Bronx Zoo! At least one of the screens of the 4D cinema is just 2D, meaning that one of the two polarizations of the screen is not working. You can test it with your polarized sunglasses or with the 3D glasses. That's OK if they could inform you before you buy the tickets or enter one of the two small tents (not buildings, but tents) of the so-called cinema; But if they tell the viewers in seats in execuses such like "Oh, some of the 3D glasses are not working, so some of you might see 2D, not 3D" before playing the movie, they are just cheating. They cheated you to buy tickets and they are cheating you about the reason. The real reason is that the screen or/and the projector is/are malfunctioning, so all the viewers cannot see 3D!

2. The area of the whole zoo is big, but they placed all the exhibitions in sections with very narrow paths making visitors very crowded. Most of the sections/exhibitions are tiny in area.

3. Don't come on Wednesdays, it's too crowded in every corner of the zoo, and there are huge queues at the entrances, since Wednesdays are free admission days. Fortunately we had "total-experience" tickets with which we can bypass the mile-long queues on Wednesdays.

There is something so exciting about going to the Zoo. But going in NY in the middle of the Bronx is SO awesome. I've been to many zoos all over the world and this zoo emphasizes the emotional connection and love they have for their animals. Let's start with parking. Leave early if you are trying to walk in the gate at 10 when it opens. They have decent parking, but the surrounding traffic and people trying to get in slows your animal seeing experience down a little. Every staff member I encountered had a smile on their face and was happy to help. WINNING BRONX ZOO! We did the animal encounters and were worth every penny. You get to talk one on one with zoo keepers that train, feed, love and take care of them. All the animals are situated in thought out ,well designed enclosures. And they all look like they are living their best lives. If you haven't been watching The Zoo on animal planet, get it together people because it's a life changer and hits you in the heart strings! Enjoy!

Small enough to finish in one visit but big enough to get lost. Admission price does not include certain exhibits within the park or the shuttle. That is another $15pp. Best to park on street if you can because parking is $22.

We come here often as its close to home, contains a large variety of animals and pseudo hiking all at the same time. Kids never get tired of visiting and seeing the same animals. They even have a dinosaur exhibit this summer with fossil excavation for the kids.

To be upfront I am a volunteer for my local zoo so I know what I am talking about. This zoo was bad from the moment we drove through the gate with 36 people on a charter bus. 6 of which are handicap and need scooters. Parking attendants refused to allow us to drive to entrance gate to drop them off. 2. After walking to gate they only had 1 young lady, who was doing her best, to check in 7 people for scooters plus take care if people who needed tickets. The zoo does not allow you to reserve scooters on line..why not? Pittsburgh zoo is smaller and you can reserve there. This would save a lot of headaches. It took over 1 1/2 hrs to get them all checked in. 3. 1 of the scooters broke down and she had to make 2 phone calls and wait for 2 hrs to have someone cone get her. Why so long? 4. It was raining all day...be warned...both the monorail and tram close down in the rain. Both of which cost you extra. So your money was wasted. 5. Worst, you could not get a straight answer out of any employee or docent on directions. The maps were terrible and so was the signage to try to navigate around. All 35 people, many zoo volunteers, were very disappointed in this visit and we wouldn't be back.

This is the largest metropolitan zoo in the US. The size of the zoo is overwhelming, I was planning to cover everything in a single day, but later realized that one day is not enough. Wold Asia Monorail was the best for me.

If you want to take photos without traveling long distances, or just want a great time, the Bronx Zoo is the best place to go. I went with my family and some of my extended family, and we had an amazing time. My three year old cousin loved going through the whole zoo and pointing out all of the animals she recognized. If you like, like me, enjoy photography, I'd recommend you stay away from the big open exhibits, but instead go for reptiles or birds, or really anything in a smaller enclosure. If you are just aiming to have a good time, my personal favorite part of the zoo is the wild Asia Monorail. On my most recent trip, I unfortunately didn't get to go on the Monorail, but it's definitely worth it. As you can see, I took a bunch of pictures, some better than others, and I had an all together great day. 10/10 would definitely go again.

The Bronx Zoo is a fantastic place to get lots of exercise and enjoy nature with your family. It can be a very overwhelming and expensive place if you try to do it all in one day and just buy a day pass. The membership fee for a family is definitely worth it if you plan to visit the Bronx Zoo a few times/year and the Central Park Zoo which is included in the membership. It does not include the Nature Trek or zip line activities but does include the Congo, Bengali Express, Children's Zoo, Butterfly Zone and Jungle World exhibits at the BZ for which they would normally charge extra. Parking passes at the BZ are also included. Pack a picnic lunch plus snacks and drinks to save lots of money or you'll go broke on food. They have lots of picnic tables behind the carousel area. Make sure to see the sea lions get fed at 3pm. They're very entertaining. Once you buy a membership it is better to visit the BZ for half day increments to avoid exhaustion and enjoy it more leisurely. We go there every season but the Children's Zoo is not open during late fall and winter. It's the best place to visit with kids at the zoo since the animals are close up and there are lots of interactive things to do there. Bring a camera and wear comfy shoes.

Not just for the kids. This zoo is a must for any nature and animal lover. They built a great zoo, with attractions and where you can feel close to the animals, and see them from close. They have some of the most amazing animals I have ever seen.

Blocks from the Bronx little Italy the Bronx Zoo is a world class zoo that offers the greatest opportunity to see wild animals in NYC. Lions, gorilla, bears, birds... the list goes on and on. It's always crowded and you'll have to pay for an enhanced ticket to see the best animals but it is worth it. Bring a picnic because the cafes don't offer more than tenders and fries. A full day trip that is a must do for all animal lovers.
