Closes at 5, which is a little too early. Monorail was broken down and we had to wait in line for 30 mins with updates from staff on what the situation was. Shuttle at the end of the night took forever to pick us up to take us to our exit gate. They should just run all the shuttles constantly until everyone is out of the park. Food is extremely overpriced. Overall, it is a nice clean zoo, just wish it was open longer as it is impossible to complete in one day with small kids.

I came on a Wednesday, when admission is free to the public. I wish I had come on a different day. The zoo was extremely crowded - I'm talking elbow to elbow, screaming children shoving into you, feeling a little claustrophobic crowded. It didn't help that the day I went, it was over 90 degrees outside. REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER, DO NOT GO ON A WEDNESDAY. Trust me. I was horrified at the lines for the restrooms, but even more horrified by the restrooms themselves. One of them I couldn't even stomach going into, it was so dirty. The other was more acceptable, but still really gross. As for the exhibits...They were severely lacking. The day I went, there were no rhinos, there were no giraffes, and there were no gorillas. Several other exhibits were empty as well. The exhibits that were full were the bird exhibits...and they were terribly smelly (like, beyond normal zoo smelliness smelly...) Many of the birds were alone, and looked pitifully depressed. The one, scrawny, sickly polar bear looked seemed depressed also. The water in the exhibit was green and murky, so he couldn't even get in to cool off. He just stood at the back wall pacing in a ten foot line. I actually cried about this. It was horrible. One thing I did like about the zoo was the deer exhibit. There was an expansive, grassy area with a stream running through it, where the deer were able to stand chest deep in water to cool off. Overall, I was quite disappointed in this zoo. I won't go back. I'd rather go to the Botanical Garden just down the road.

This has been one of my "happy places" since I was a little girl. My very 1st "what di you want to be when you grow up?" answer was "a big cat vet at the Brinx Zoo!!!" I never did become a vet but this zoo still has a huge space in my heart

The zoo is crowded, understaffed, and the animals do not receive the attention they deserve. I watched children bang on the glass of many exhibits, and the attendant would say nothing. The zoo does have cool animals, but sadly it doesn't seem to have enough money to prepare for the huge crowds

This is a large zoo whith most of the animals you're looking for. It also has a zoo shuttle for transportation and a monorail to see a few more animals. It doesn't have short lines though.

I love this Zoo!! Its soo huge my daughter and I didn't get to finish seeing everything within the 3 hrs we were there. Definitely plan a whole day for this zoo. We will definitely be back with a whole day to spare for this awesome zoo. Loves all the animals we got to see. Can get very crowded and not to mention it looking like stroller city! Lol. I was one of them. So far one of the best zoo's I've been to here in NYC.

Do not come here. Everything is closed. I came on a Wednesday with my family and they conveniently did not mention it was supposed to be free, but we still paid for the full experience which was not worth it AT ALL. Save your time and your money, because incompetent employees won t do anything to help you.

Beautiful zoo with a commitment to conservation and preservation of wildlife and habitats across the world. We went in the off-season, when most of the outdoor animal spaces were closed for the winter, and we still didn't manage to see everything before it closed.

It's such a wonderful resource and has one of the strongest commitments to animal welfare I've ever seen at a zoo, which is just so wonderful.

It is a bit on the pricier side (more than a ticket to the Met or ANHM), but so very worth it, especially seeing how much of their work reaches out into the wider world of animal welfare!

I love this zoo because it's not only a place to visit animals but also see plants that have become endangered due to deforestation. Plus you using (I think you can use it as part of a running trail).

Don t go in winter, it s a waste of time! I was really looking forward to seeing the animals and exhibits, acknowledging that some wouldn t be out given it s January and not everyone is acclimated to the cold New York weather this time of year. What I found was a park barely staffed, all the food stands and extras closed, 80% of the outdoor exhibits with no visible animals outside OR in the indoor sections for those that had them as well. A really disappointing experience, especially when it s a good 50 minute bus ride out of Manhattan. They should make it clear to visitors how few of the animals and exhibits are open in the winter season AND have a reduced admission. This was not even close to worth the $28 entry fee. Aside from the entry gate, a few gardeners and the staff at the main cafe I don t think I saw a single member of park staff all day! Not a great impression.

We came on Wednesday it is free to get in however to see all the attractions you still need to pay 15 dollars per person. The place is overcrowded from the parking to any attraction. The staff is avaliable but gives little help. We could not even get to all the extra attractions we payed for as the lines were hours long at a time. I don't know if the zoo was at capacity but it sure felt like it. Very disappointed is one thing but it's the kids that didn't get to see much is what i am mostly upset about.

What a wonderful way to spend a breezy summer s day with family or friends. So much to see and experience. You can actually sit have lunch overlooking a field divided only by a short fence and watch animals frolic and play. There are bears, lions, tigers, baboons, even peacocks. You can spend hours here with so much to see

Great zoo for kids and adults. There is a Petting zoo for the kids to learn about the animals. I suggest wearing comfortable shoes because there is lots of walking to do. The animals look good so that mean the zookeeper has been taking care of them well. Overall good to see animals you haven't seen in person.
Maybe sure to bring your own food and water to save money.

So Basically I Fell Down The Stairs And The Teachers Didn't Do Nun About It. Ugh I Love That. Also I Love Getting Nonstop Homework And Not Being Able To Sleep Due To The Fact That It Take About 5 Years To Get My Homework Done.

I have been to the Bronx Zoo in over 20 years and it is still my favorite zoo. Wear your most comfortable walking shoes bring some snacks and water. Food prices and snack prices were a little high. Plenty of animals to see. They have a train that will drop u off at different locations. Plenty to do and see. The monorail was closed so we didnt get to see that part of the park. Get there early so u can spend the whole day seeing all the animals and exhibits. Yeah i still love the Bronx Zoo and it was clean plenty of bathrooms and gift shops all over the place.

This is a large zoo. It is pretty impressive to see all the exhibits. Watching the zoo on tv had us excited to visit. However: A BIG detractor is that there are not enough accommodations for the elderly! We are 68+ and we had to walk all over up many stairs and hills. It was pretty tough. My sciatica was screaming by about half way through!! The tram was not running.

Another big issue is that there were not enough places to sit. Certain areas had too many benches and many other areas had zero. Almost none were protected from the insist drizzle... wet butt for sure but we signed up for that.

Yet another issue was that many of the digital displays were not working.

Would I come back? For sure but I would try to bring some type of scooter... btw I wonder why there weren't scooters for rent.

Decided to go to the Bronx Zoo on the warmest winter day in NYC. 62 degrees, every animal was out early in the morning. Arrived as soon as the doors opened and this beautiful brown bear was front and center to greet the few people that was there. Early is best!!!!

I love taking my niece here. I m ashamed to admit I probably enjoy it more than her.

Here are some of my favorite sections:
Wild Asia Monorail (closed if it s raining)
Bug Carousel (worth it if the line is under 15 minutes)
Big Bears exhibit
Congo gorilla forest
Jungleworld
Madagascar

Had an awesome day with my granddaughter payed for the total experience and she got to go on the bug Carasel, visit the butterfly garden' and the Congo Gorilla forest without having to pay extra. Everyone was great. Sight the everyone day there. And the e fact that it's wheelchair accessible for her was an added bonus, not all zoos are. Thank you Bronx Zoo.

Absolutely the BEST zoo I have visited. I ve been to the San Francisco, Dallas, Albuquerque zoo. The Bronx zoo blows them all out of the park. The Congo part... wow. Fabulous. We were in aw seeing the gorilla exhibit. Definitely buy the ticket where you can see everything. At the beginning of the park, I really thought I was going to be disappointed. The monarail was broken the day we went. I really wish we could have used it, but it s fine.

Not a good day for the zoo but still had fun. Dont feel that it was worth the i price i paid if i aint see no Lions gorillas and tigers today, they really should say something at door or lower the price lil disappointed parking price waaay to hi u need to cut it

I absolutely love the Bronx Zoo. WCS does such an amazing job caring for their animals and creating enriching habitats. They also do so much to educate and progress conservation efforts around the world. The zoo itself is a wonderful. Lots of fun activities for everyone. Very accommodating.

This more of a reserve rather than a zoo. You have to walk alot to see the animals and they are far apart from each other. There is a train but what's the point if you take you won't be able to see the animals. Besides you have to pay extra. Also the entry fee which is already high does not include lots of activities inside. So for a decent size family you end up paying a lot of money between zoo entry, parking, food, train, and extra activities

Area outside is not safe too, I went with my friend who had BMW which he parked on the street. There was a guy was trying to steal or flat the wheel

My boyfriend and I went on the Wednesday free day!!! The weather was nice got to see a lot of animals and really enjoyed are day there. We spent the whole day here it's a big zoo and there's a lot to see. My favorite is lions and one of them roared for us.

We had such a wonderful time that we joined and got the WCS membership! After 2 trips it basically pays for itself! We now go to the zoo quite often, and we still haven't seen everything! Our family always has a wonderful day when we visit

Not like it was before, All events & all Exhibits should of been free. They charge for the 4D
Exhibits. They charge for Rain Forest. The charge for the Congo. One day out of the week WEDNESDAY should be free to the public PERIOD. Just don't advertise it for a build up then go there for a let down. Wont. Be going back.

It is such a cool place that I am thinking to return here next weekend. I don t think that you can see the whole zoo the same day, so try it and if you like it as much as I did, you will be calculating when you can return. What I really loved here is that they try to let you get very close to the animals, and in the birds cage you really see them from close.
What I hated is the price. Overpriced, and it wasn t even the weekend.

Firat I must say this is a very big zoo with lots of attractions so wear your most comfy shoes and clothes. From up hill to endless conners the bronx zoo will sure give you a work out for the week. An amazing 0laxe to spend your day fun for kids and the entire family.

Always a great time at the zoo. I have been a member for a while now. This time we went for Boo At The Zoo and we had a blast.

The candy trail was limited but fun along with the parade and hay maze (which was a lot confusing at some points and was really short). The activities throughout were really fun. The mind reading and magic show was awesome !!!!

We are looking forward to the new activity with lights at the zoo this winter!

The total experience tickets are worth taking, but I would recommend giving the butterflies and 4-D theatre a skip if you are running short on time. Jungle World and Madagascar exhibits were favourites.

The Bronx Zoo is my favorite place in New York. The zookeepers are always ready to share their passion and tell you about the animals. We always learn something new and see something new. The keepers are also concerned about connecting each experience to a lifelong narrative of conservation. We got a membership and added the parking pass. It s a great place to go and explore with kids, family, and adults. As a member there are some evening events and it s nice to see the zoo at night. Weekdays are generally pretty relaxed with minimal crowds. Wednesday can be crowded when the zoo is free to visit. Getting the total experience is a must. Well worth the time and money. Supporting the zoo helps conserve endangered species and will bolster your knowledge.

Visited during a chilly day in March. The animals were fairly active as you can see in some of my photo examples. However, the red pandas and some other animals had been tucked away due to the cold weather. I would recommend WCS place a large map or sign near the entrances and display what areas are closed due to weather. I didn't see this and it would save time for visitors. The food court was great here. Good selection for food for a decent price. The gift shop was adorable (due to the over excess of plush) and I would have loved to see more magnet options and men's sized shirts. The magnets are very very sad. Nothing just simple with the Bronx zoo on it like the shot glasses. It's mainly just stock photos of animals and unusually they had this excess of dinosaur magnets.

Great place to take.your children.... It can get pretty expensive without a membership so plan accordingly. It's free on Wednesdays but if you don't like crowds, it's best to get the family membership for $200. Best bang for your buck and it allows you access to all of the zoos and aquarium

Wow - the best zoo I've been to in the USA! No way to see it all in a day.

Natural enclosures for the animals. Beautifully maintained. Workers are friendly and helpful. Take the monorail tour when you first arrive.

Strongly recommend becoming a member. A-la-cart will nickle & dime you to death.

It was nice. I was there yesterday wed feb 22.2017 from 10.30am to 3.30 pm LOVE IT

At the first I was afraid because
of the reviews of DO NOT GO ON WEDNESDAYS(donate wat u want) day

But I decided to give it a TRY

It was not crowded and I found street parking at the corner of river park (BUT THERE WAS MORE PARKING )
The kids ,mom grandma and me enjoyed , besides that , IT was a beautiful day and kids didnt have school.. SO It WASNT HORRIBLE... AS SOME PPL WROTE ON MANY OF THE REVIEWS ..
the weather was nice the kids were free FROM SCHOOL ( WINTER BREAK)
SO IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE FULL AS MY POINT OF VIEW... but nahhh it wasnt

SO I ADVISE YOU DONT DECIDE NOT TO GO , JUST BC YOU BELIEVE ABOUT OTHER PPL BAD EXPERIENCE
EVERY DAY IS DIFFERENT AND EVERY PERSON IS DIFFERENT ... :)

We went during a week day and most of the food places and shops were closed. Very limited staff members visible in the park should you need to ask a question about nearest open food place, directions etc.
