I came on a Wednesday, when admission is free to the public. I wish I had come on a different day. The zoo was extremely crowded - I'm talking elbow to elbow, screaming children shoving into you, feeling a little claustrophobic crowded. It didn't help that the day I went, it was over 90 degrees outside. REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER, DO NOT GO ON A WEDNESDAY. Trust me. I was horrified at the lines for the restrooms, but even more horrified by the restrooms themselves. One of them I couldn't even stomach going into, it was so dirty. The other was more acceptable, but still really gross. As for the exhibits...They were severely lacking. The day I went, there were no rhinos, there were no giraffes, and there were no gorillas. Several other exhibits were empty as well. The exhibits that were full were the bird exhibits...and they were terribly smelly (like, beyond normal zoo smelliness smelly...) Many of the birds were alone, and looked pitifully depressed. The one, scrawny, sickly polar bear looked seemed depressed also. The water in the exhibit was green and murky, so he couldn't even get in to cool off. He just stood at the back wall pacing in a ten foot line. I actually cried about this. It was horrible. One thing I did like about the zoo was the deer exhibit. There was an expansive, grassy area with a stream running through it, where the deer were able to stand chest deep in water to cool off. Overall, I was quite disappointed in this zoo. I won't go back. I'd rather go to the Botanical Garden just down the road.
