J. Francis was a pleasure to work with. Every single employee was extremely professional, very friendly, and extraordinarily helpful. They were always on time and cleaned up beautifully, putting a high priority on making our kitchen renovation as unobtrusive and easy for us as possible. They even helped us set up our temporary kitchen, so we could cook throughout the renovation. The design of the new kitchen is absolutely beautiful and is really functional. It is so much fun to cook and entertain in our new space. We wonder if this excitement will wear off, but we like to just sit in the kitchen and marvel at how much we love it.

I wouldn't call this business unless you are 100% sure you will use them. They shy away from any type of quote or bid unless you are ready to build and commit to them - this is their quote "We only design what we intend to build and only build what we have designed" which is fine, but good luck getting a bid from them. It worked out for the best as we found someone much less arrogant.

Excellent work. Organized and reliable. Good work comes at a price. They are 10-20% higher price than most and don t take jobs that cost less than 50k.

I think the increased money is worth the reliability and quality work and dependability.

I have a very bad experience with this company. I called and emailed them to consult my home renovation project, becasue they have very good review online . Their response is not very professional and they think we couldn't afford it before we tell them the budget. I never got the chance to talk to the actual manager (which been told he is super busy)

A major advantage with this company is a total package from design to completion. The architect was involved in the entire process to ensure the quality and meeting specifications.

Upon retirement my husband and I decided to move back to PA into my 66 year old family home. We lived in the house for 2 years and interviewed many contractors for a whole house remodel. We became very disillusioned and frustrated. I continued my research and found J. Francis Co. You know the old adage "you get what you pay for". This was so true with this company. We thought the cost was high but after working with them for 3 months we couldn't have spent our money more wisely. This company is superb from the office staff to the construction crews. The work is beautiful and top quality. The time spent with us before the project started was unbelievable! No construction nightmares, no surprises and completed ahead of schedule. They were here Monday-Friday until the job was complete. So respectful of our property and our neighbors. As in life not everything was perfect but they came back right away and made it perfect!! I thought we will never see them again. I was so wrong. They even do a 6 month review and a year review to cover their warranty. Do yourself a favor and forget the headaches of a remodel and hire this amazing J. Francis. We promise you will not be sorry!!

We enjoyed working with them to realize our designs, but ultimately chose not to use them. Our interactions were professional and they were our top choice, but ultimately we chose someone else. Can't wait to find a project that fits the company better.

This was our 3rd time working with J Francis. The scope of this project was installing Hardie siding on the house, replacing most windows, and improvement attic insulation. As has been the case in all projects, the J Francis team is incredibly attentive, respectful, and skilled at what they do. Our family has loved having Doug (the daily GC) around the house.

The project was 85% done when covid hit. The team communicated clearly and when it was safe and legal to get back to work they quickly finished things up. One thing to note about J Francis is they do a 6 month and 1 year check in after projects. So if you have any issues, you have multiple chances to raise them and correct them. We are very happy to have the new siding up and windows installed, it all looks great!

The one downside was that we were not impressed with Pella throughout the process. They were eager to replace any non-Pella window in the house, even if they weren't that old. Also, the existing Pella windows they said they could fix, they ended up not being able to unless we paid more.

Today we met with John, the owner. But our first interaction began with speaking to someone from their office when we began to look for a general contractor. Needless to say we have been very impressed with J Francis Company throughout our initial interactions with the office admin and follow up emails to coordinate our first meeting. One can easily see why they come so highly recommended. John's approach to helping us understand our options and the process was not only helpful and appreciated, but genuine. He listened to us and "our story before even talking about himself. Most contractors want to tout how great they are with a sales pitch right off the bat. He is realistic about project expectations on cost and design and does not try to "sell" you in order to make more money. J Francis Company will be our first choice when it comes to GC work in Pittsburgh hands down!

Outstanding experience with the folks at J Francis! From the very first meeting, John took the time to listen to my (many) requests and questions. J Francis has been a wonderful company to work with on our first floor remodel. Our designer / project manager has been creative and collaborative. She picked up on our personal style as well as the things we already liked about our home and came up with a selection of designs, cabinetry, colors, tiles, etc. that we found very easy to choose from. She accepted our ideas on design changes and turned them around to fit even better than we expected. The management team, the sub contractors, and the lead carpenter have been great to work with and friendly to the family and our dogs. About 2.5 months to go and we're looking forward to what comes next.

We are almost finished with our master bath and walk-in closet, designed and built by J. Francis Company, and are thrilled with the result. All J. Francis employees that have been in our home are on time, friendly, and meticulous about keeping their work area clean. We are going to finish the entire project about a month AHEAD of schedule.

We did end up going about 10% over our inital budget/estimate, but the addtional expense related to several design changes we requested and also some unforseen circumstances of working on a 117 year old house (additional lead paint, coal dust, knob and tube, etc.) We also didn't bid out the work, so we maybe paid more than we otherwise would have, but you get what you pay for, and we are very happy with our master bath and closet!!

He ball parked our project to be a bit higher than what we could assume would be the value of the house, but we have a big full gut rehab requiring absolutely everything, we aren't even in the coolest or hippest of neighborhoods. If It was in our budget to hire him, we would of in a heartbeat. J Francis remodeled our basement, including playroom, built-ins, laundry room and a bathroom. We love the results. They were very professional: weekly meeting with our project manager, responsive via email, easily accepted changes to the plan and scope. Everyone who worked on the job was friendly. They were focused on providing top quality work. That said, it was not a cheap job. Overall, we were very pleased with J Francis.

Currently we are in the process of remodeling our basement with J Francis. They have been exceptional. From the design process to now (a little over half way finished) they have been incredibly organized and responsive to all of our needs. They are also incredibly clean. We have bad allergies and they are so clean that we have had no asthma or allergies while they have been working in the basement. The work thus far has been very high quality and we are totally happy with the process. Highly recommend for your home remodel.

We had a massive, massive project - totally unique. It wasn't too much of a challenge for the J. Francis Company. If you can dream it, they can make it happen. At the start of our restoration, we talked to over half a dozen contractors. We went with John and his people. Now that it's over and done, we couldn't be happier. The best part was the fact that they respected our budget and time frame, and knew exactly how to phase everything out into manageable steps, which made everything far less daunting. It's just like LASIK or cosmetic surgery or tattoos - when it comes to something important as home remodeling, you get what you pay for, and, one way or another, it's far more expensive to hire someone without the right skills or experience. These guys are the best, period!

Same as the last reviewer. Unprofessional and complete waste of both my time and the person I spoke with in the phone. I am completely new to this process and looking for an initial estimate for building an addition behind vs to the side of the house (which would impact the size we have to work with). They asked me a lot of questions, and then at the end, finally gave me broad pricing guidelines and said they only give estimates if we have a designer come to our house and pay a fee. If that information had been stated within the first 30 seconds of the call, we both would have been spared 15 minutes where the woman's tone on the phone showed she wished she was doing anything else besides talking to me.

Look no further - Make J. Francis Company your General Contractor. If perfection is your standard, they will exceed it. We've had J. Francis at our house for extensive remodeling, both inside and outside, to our 68 year old house, for 5 months now. Nothing but outstanding results. Professional. Courteous. Expert. What more can you ask for. They do everything the right way, the first time. And should something by small chance not be 100% the first time, they immediately correct it. I highly recommend J Francis. J Francis remodeled our kitchen and bathroom and we are very happy with the work performed. One benefit of working with J Francis are the periodic follow-up walk throughs after the completion of the work. John, the owner, personally performs the walk throughs. There were a couple of issues that we pointed out to John at the 6 month walk through and without prompting, he immediately addressed the problems. It's hard to put a price on that level of service. Sometimes you get what you pay for and this is true with J Francis.
