Highmark BCBS of DE completely scams unknowing consumers who have done their research and due diligence and attempts to uphold them to standards of fact finding that their staff is not even capable of.

Example: I have Highmark BCBS of DE with an annual deductible of 2k and only in network providers are covered. Great. I reside in NYC and see an endocrinologist in RI - ALL confirmed in network providers based upon information in my customer profile on their site. I get blood work 2x as ordered by my doctor in RI (I have been following this process for 6 years). I hit my annual deductible far in advance of these visits so I am like great, finally 100% coverage. I receive bills for this labwork that was at an in network provider so naturally i think this is an error. This goes on for months of back and forth with Labcorp and BCBS. Bottom line they are saying I am responsible bc while I have BCBS of DE this lab while in network for me is not in network for BCBS of RI - AN INSURANCE PLAN I DO NOT HAVE. How would any consumer ever know that this was even possible? In fact in the many times I called none of their staff new it was possible - it took months of research and untangling to even figure out the reason it wasn't covered.

So I appealed naturally thinking any rational human would see that this was a clear error and blatantly takes advantage of unknowing consumers. Nope they denied it saying I should have known and now if I'd like to appeal again I can pay a $75 filing fee to do so. This is the epitome of why consumers have such a strong distrust within our healthcare system.

This company and thier web site is terrible! I have been trying to pay my first premium to make sure my special enrolment health insurance starts February 1 to prevent a gap in my health insurance coverage, I only had about 9 days to try and get everything approved, and they take days to review documents, so by the time I was approved I only had about 3 days left to complete everything. I made a payment a few days ago but the money was never taken from my account, I thought it may just need a few days to clear, but it still hasn't gone through and Feb 1 is tomorrow! I read in multiple places the first payment must be made by January 31 to be covered for February. If I am not covered for February because of thier terrible customer service and web site I will be furious. I have doctor's appointments I need to go to and this is unacceptable. Oh and ps they have sales people you can call 24/7 but not customer service, seems like they are more worried about making money than providing care.

I have been with this carrier for many years. I recently had to move to help with my parents. It is really hard to find good doctors here and find them that take this insurance. After a couple of tries I finally found a competent and responsive doctor. But my bills kept being messed up. They just weren't adding up correctly. As it turns out, my doctor is a PA (Physicians Assistant) and they bill you as if you are seeing a specialist when you see a PA. So your copay is 30 dollars rather than 20 dollars. What a load of nonsense! A PA is not a specialist. They work under the supervision of a Physician. This just doesn't make sense! Just one more instance where the insurance company does what they want to do at the expense of us hard working Americans!

When I brought that to their attention they said that yes it was an error on their part and it would be fixed within 24 hours. It took three more phone calls and eight days to get fixed. I just opened an account on Highmark Delaware. Despite of making first payment, I haven't received any membership pack or member card nearly after a month. Instead I have been getting invoices for the paid month and even the following month. I have tried to follow up several times through phone and email but still not helpful. Found very insensitive, slow and bad customer service.

I've had Highmark through my work for 3 years and have had no problems what so ever. I'm also the HR Director so I also take care of the billing. Again, no problems. My employees seem very happy with it also. I would definitely recommend them!

So many issues with my health care coverage I dont even know where to begin, basically I've had the same plan for 3 years and have had no health issues, but the very first time I used my coverage and they had to pay for my hospital bill, they took away my tax credit for no reason which raised my monthly premium by 615 dollars and now my monthly premium is $725 a month) that's about 25% of my annual income!!! So now I cant afford health insurance, or my medication because of CORPORATE GREED! WE NEED HEALTH CARE REFORM!!

Layers and layers of bureaucrats and pointless pencil pushing and endless forms to be filled out. And then lost, and then re-filled out repeatedly. No one takes responsibility for anything. Absolutely horrible. My company recently switched providers trying to use the last of my FSA I submitted a prescription claim with all requested documentation. It was denied, I called them they asked for more documents, so once more I resubmitted it with everything requested. Again denied. I called them today and first before I could even say my problem the woman transferred me to sales then when I called back and got Carrie she told me policy terminated in June? I had up until the end of August to submit my claim! Oh and they changed the date of my submission to yesterday! Nothing but a bunch of crooks and thieves, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Absolutely disgusted.

There is a disclaimer on Highmark's website when you try to look up an in-network provider. It states that the information may not be current or accurate. But when you call the company to find out if a certain provider is in-network, they check by, what else, looking it up on their own website. When I questioned this (repeatedly), they seemed not to comprehend the ridiculousness of it. In addition, it is really hard to access simple things on their website. Some resources (such as finding out if LabCorp in-network) that people need frequently are nowhere to be found.

spent several hours over the course of 2 days on the phone with rep after rep trying to resolve a prescription issue. They couldn't or wouldn't tell me anything over the phone. Thought I was making progress by talking to a live person, but she couldn't tell me anything because I wasn't a physician. I finally received a letter 8 days later explaining the issue. I quickly resolved it at that point.

And my doctor healthcare team has already submitted Prior Authorization to BSBSDE. but it seems like no body from BCBSDE responded to my doctor's healthcare team's submitted request. I have never seen anything like this. This is literally the most frustrating thing I have ever dealt with. Every time I call there about something I get the run around. There is one person there that was helpful, Nancy, who handles the SHOP and High Mark Blue Cross Blue Shield account interaction. I thank you for your efforts, I had almost given up. I switched my coverage to a SHOP program through this company, and I have had nothing but nightmares ever since. Since the Affordable Care Act has restricted competition in the medical field coverage, it has been a joke. Thanks again Obama. Your legacy is firmly entrenched. What a perfect combination, literally double the price and half the coverage.

Been trying to get a payment from one account to another but no one seems to know how to handle doing that it has been almost a month now. I still don't have the answer to weather or not I have Health insurance. Also it is a total joke when you call, one day it literally took me three hours to TRY to get to the right department. You're told to call the number on the back of the card NOT wrong I let everyone I talked to about that a year ago and still not fixed.

My simple request/suggestion is to just indicate on statements if a customer is signed up for autopay. Everything else I have set up does this to lessen confusion if you're still getting paper bills (delmarva power, credit cards, insurances via USAA....everything).

For two years I've been paying my bill using autopay. For two years I've received monthly statements showing a "Due Date"...like an actual, but not applicable, bill. So I learned to ignore it. Which is all fine and good...except their autopay time limit is apparently 12 months, so guess what happened when a new year rolled around and I continued to assume the bills' Due Date was still a misnomer? A big mess, that's what.

I always mention this suggestion when I talk to customer service about other issues. Nothing has changed. More notably, the folks in customer service can never give me a way to pass this suggestion onward. They have no idea how to handle it, assumably being too busy putting out fires. I know it's a large company sharing high-deductible plans, and thankful that it's of our state's Medicaid vendors...but shouldn't any for-profit company be just a little interested in "process improvement?" I sure hope the people on the social media team (that I'm not going to email repeating this same info) know what to do with this comment. Thanks.

Paid my first premium. Not only did it take ages to process (though the amount was removed from my bank instantly) but once processed I still have zero coverage, cannot look at my membership card, and the site continuously tells me to pay my first premium. Their Ebill site shows my premium was not paid, my banking statement proves otherwise.

They took my money, failed to provide their service, and now their broken website claims I never paid in the first place.

I have no idea how such utterly incompetent web design and hideously unreliable billing apps could possibly be considered acceptable by insurance companies, companies which literally are responsible for keeping some of us functioning or alive, but then again this is no loss to them. They stole my money and simply do not care, they know we are forced to use their services but have no interest in making those services functional or reliable. In fact they have a vested interest in not doing so since they are given free reign to fleece us for our money.

Tried to contact customer service first thing in the morning, had to wait for 1+ hour just to talk to a representative who then forwarded call to another department and again kept me on hold for another 30 mins. Even after that I could not get the issue resolved with my account payment. After making payment, its been over a month and another payment due, still no member id card no progress and the first payment has not even been posted. Its better to choose another insurance provider or even pay tax penalty instead of this useless frustrating mess.

Do you know that it took your customer service team over a week to realize that they couldn't even find a link anywhere on site that would explain why I am being held accountable for charges I shouldn't be?

Are you aware that when I asked why it was not available they told me customers don't have to be informed of your policies?

Sounds like consumer fraud to me in addition to the fact your employees don't even know your policies so how could a customer?

After rounds of appeals you are forcing someone to pay bills that should have without question been covered and you can't even tell me why beyond "just because you say so". You're taking advantage of those who do not have the ability to fight back against a major corporation.

This is the worst billing experience I have ever had in my entire life. I've paid my premium every month that I have been with highmark. But they will auto renew plans that I am not enrolled in. My billing account has been a total mess and their reps are of very little help.

Highmark BCBS has been professional for many years and done a quality job keeping me in the loop about health issues and coverage. They are my prefered health insurance company. I am writing here about one specific experience that I found to be troubling:

The ACA mandates that health insurance companies give a customer rebate when they have not spent 80% or more of their profits for the year. This past year Highmark BCBS did not reach 80% and sent out rebates to their customers. Even though every bill from them, every explanation of benefits, and every health reminder has easily made it to my mailbox. The rebate check, which I did not know was coming, was sent to my old address. An address I have not had or used for EIGHT YEARS. Luckily, the current resident tracked me down.

The check was printed on flimsy paper, in black and white ink...which made it feel a little bit like a scam or junk mail. I called the company to make sure it was a real check and they verified that it was.

Anyhow, this is a long story...but I just wanted to let any readers out their know to please call Highmark and see if you have a rebate check for last year waiting for you that "somehow" was sent to the wrong address or looked like junk mail.

I had to purchase a transport chair for my husband due to what we thought was severe vertigo only to find out it was a stroke. I called the company the day after to see if I could be reimbursed., I was told yes and to go online fill out form, send receipt along with script.. I did that back in September and have called every couple of weeks only to be told that it would not be covered. My last call was weeks ago and they needed dr to send something over.. He did that and still no check.. I have never dealt with such incompetent people who are suppose to be there to help answer all questions let alone get right info.. Since Highmark-Pittsburgh took over BC/BS of Delaware, my account has been handled with abandon and disregard from TPTB and on down to Customer Service! My supplemental policy with my Medicare through Highmark was often "fumbled" with billing and automatic receipt of the funds . . . so I left the headaches behind and this month was enrolled in a much better provider's insurance. Doggone it, Highmark pulled the funds from my "fixed income" checking account (unauthorized and before I got my SSDI payment this month) and took the last few dollars in my account; leaving me overdrawn and at the mercy of my bank. Now I have to wait for this "bad" payment to post, be disputed, replaced, and this insurance account corrected once and for all, Highmark = Thanks for confirming to me that leaving you was the best for me and my coverage, even providing me with this last insult and I'm broke to boot !!!

Worst insurance provider. They have a lot of information about your insurance but they do not follow it. They deny what it is written in the policy. And the customer service sucks. I sure hope nobody needs to call them because you will be transferred from a machine to another machine and maybe after 2 hours somebody will finally talk with you.
