A really fun place to take the kids and spend the whole day
I have loved this place of enchanting extisee all my Life
I knew the inside exhibits would be closed due to Covid but was disappointed at the number of outside exhibits that were empty. The admission price should have been reduced if there was so little to see and do.
We love our zoo but room for improvement.
When you purchase tickets online, you should be able to skip the ticket line. Spent our first 30 minutes of our zoo trip standing in line. Not cool. Not efficient. Even the members had to stand in a long line to get in.
The zoo is currently under renovation, wait until it is done to visit and it's for sure a good time.
No tigers, no wolves, 1 bear. Predator section needs more.
Very careful, the animals have them very well, very beautiful
If you enjoy lots of birds and turtles, this is your place, oh most animals are out of the habits because they can t afford them. This zoo has gone down hill fast, soon as they built the African area, aka lots of land for 3 elephants it changed, no more tigers, cheetahs, hyenas, bears, Jaguar, not even a horse or cow in the petting zoo...but lots of birds did I mention that.
Beautiful zoo in Mountain Brook. Didn't smell as bad as other zoos!
Good place to take the kiddos. Expensive drinks and food
A lot of Animals, but they need to put more attention in the habitat of animals, they look so boring.
Great place for families and animals of multiple regions of the world at this establishment
The zoo is always a good time with young people. Minds of innocence and imagination seeing the animals from their story books and cartoons.
We bought our baby here she's two we really enjoyed everything they had to offer but it was not cheap it cost us a hundred dollars to get us three in and that was very unexpected but it was kinda worth it so it worked out in a way my baby loved the animals and everything so I would say all in all a good trip and the zoo though expensive is worth the time and money for your children to learn about so many different animals
Very good zoo. If you go on tuesdays and buy your tickets online, the tickets are half priced. Mid week is the least crowded time to attend. Great fun for all!
Every thing is to expensive they sell dollar tree stuffed animals for 32$ for 2$ with a big sign acting like it's some kind of good deal
Loved how.much there is to see here. Helpful staff. Healthy animals well displayed. I loved the giraffe feeding station as a selfie opp! Be patient the bear does come out eventually and worth the wait even if you walk on and come back. Birds were amazing! Even those crazy big mean ones. I have some awesome video of him puffing up at me staring me down with his prehistoric glare.
My fiance and I went to experience the Zoolight Safari. It was wonderful. Beautiful lights, nice people, and clean areas. Will definitely return in the future!
The natural habitats for the 2 black bears (Bety & Sassy) are enormous, as is the large acreage for the African elephants to roam. Even the coyotes have a great expansive abode with plenty of room to run around, and rock outcroppings to climb on.
The 3 white rhinos are absolutely enormous.
A must see is the red panda.
One of the funniest, most amusing sights are directly across from the bear habitats.
There is a chicken coop right next to the fox enclosure. There was a red fox literally guarding the henhouse! I laughed & laughed.
The fox looked at me sideways then went back to monitoring the chickens.
I look forward to seeing the new cheetah environment, and the Golden eagle aviary.
This is a small zoo of 122 acres, and has 800 animals representing many species. The food is remarkably good & surprisingly diverse, with Angus beef burgers, a black bean burger, hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, several salad options, sweet potato fries, and other kid-pleasing items. They also offer Dippin' Dots ice cream.
When buying a beverage spend the extra $1 or so to get a lidded souvenir cup. Drinks are a bit pricey at $3.49 (I think), while the souvenir cup is about $4.
Regular admission is $18, but 1/2 off on Tuesdays.
The christmas thing at the zoo was really fun! Awesome hot coco. Lights were beautiful! Definitely worth a go. And the train ride was really cool with the lights!
We have been members for years and would have been 5 stars but it's been under construction since 2016 and still not done.
It definitely wasn't what I remembered... It's undergoing alotta construction right now so there wasn't a whole lot going on... I think my neighbor pretty much owns the same animals that they had minus the lions lol.. Maybe next year will b better if they finished construction by then... Of course the refreshments and food was outrageously expensive two cups of tea $6 I mean really...? And they could step it up on the map out of the place I lost count of the times we wandered in the same circles.. I believe if they'd lower their prices on the "souvenirs," the drinks, and the plush toys and such down by about 40% they'd sell 3x's as much, increasing profit tremendously. That's just my opinion though. They could also have more interactive activities for children. I was just really disappointed in the overall experience. It's great exercise though for all you health enthusiasts lol.
P.S. Oh and during these hot days scattering out a bunch of those huge metal fans or exhaust fans even would be extremely appreciated.
The zoo was great had a fun day. It's been a while since I had been there last and it was still a fun time despite COVID and the restrictions that were in place.
Went there 10 years ago. Best zoo experience id ever been to. It was a cool day. Every single animal was out and lively. We saw a keeper actually playing with a white tiger (from other side of glass of course) the cheetahs were running wild.
Went there today (October 2018) it was a terrible experience. NO cheetahs at all, both tigers have died. A lot of construction going on. Many places closed off.
I guess I ll wait a few years before returning as I don t think the admission price is worth what s left to look at.
I will upgrade my review when it s back up to par.
We love Birmingham Zoo for it s convenience in location for us but as far as the facility, we do wish the animals had more space. We also did not care for the feeding areas for the animals due to risk of over feeding and the sheer sadness of seeing hundreds of carrots chucked at an older elephant. We used to come often but will not be back.
Had such a wonderful time at the Christmas Lantern Lights event!
Great animals but definitely not my favorite lay out for a zoo
Not as many animals as I would have liked to have seen.
We went during the week so there were no extra activities going on. I'm sure the weekend is better.
We love the zoo!! Even when it's "crowded", it doesn't feel like it!
This place was awful. Especially the guy over the camel ride. Very rude.
We had a great time. Weather was beautiful so most of the animals were out.
We usually love the Zoo, and while we understand they are doing construction, this visit was underwhelming. There were too many closed exhibits and closing of the circle so that the zoo is no longer a "loop" is tiring for children. Construction has been under way for at least a year and a half, if not two. We will gladly return when it is finished, but not until that time.
My Grandgirls absolutely loved visiting. We're from Ohio and this was a great treat for them.
The animals looked sad. I didn't like it neither did my kids. a lot of construction going on.almost every animal was hiding
I love this place to walk and be able to look at different animals and enjoy the walk with my children
Lots of fun , loved feeding the exotic birds the nectar.
Very disappointed on just about everything. The animals seemed just as depressed as we were, the ones we saw anyway. They advertise "hundreds" on animals, there definitely weren't 100 animals much less hundreds. The atmosphere isn't upbeat and pleasant or happy at all. It's dreary, sad and I really feel bad for all the animals there.
I personally loved the whole visit ! Me and my dad will definitely be going back !!
We loved the zoo. Just wished they had drink stands like lemonade around the area. It gets hot and too far to walk to the front for a drink.
Nice zoo, lots of birds and great viewing areas. Good walking paths, worked out well for packing a child around.
It was raining so it wasn't exactly a beautiful day but the zoo was great and they had lots of fun animals.
Zoo size is reasonable and staff is very knowledgeable on all their animals.
The enclosures had no water...some animals looked fake or dead
Always a good experience visiting the zoo. Lots of people today for the halloween activities but aside from the specific activities (the candy cave and the train) I never felt overly crowded. Great to see the animals and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The train was a 2 hour wait which would've been nice to know before buying activity bands, but we still got through the cave and the carousel relatively fast.
Other than the rude ticket taker named Luis at the Full Moon Slide, it was O.k.. Luis made my son feel bad because the ride made him uncomfortable. Luis was the most disrespectful person working around kids, I have ever witness. The way in which he spoke to me was disrespectful, unbelievable, racist, and he would not call a supervisor to help resolve the issue. He told me the only supervisor he had was the V.P., and I was not worth his time. Thanks Luis for destroying a fun day for my son.
Fun with the grands. Elephants, giraffes and lorakeets were all a big hit.
Parking was bad. I know there is a lot of construction going on but I didn't expect to walk as far as I did on a weekday. I can't imagine what it's like on Saturday or Sunday.
The PB&J sandwiches were 9.00, the bottled water was over 3.00. we paid for rides when we first walked in and never got to ride anything. Lightening was detected 5 miles away. I come here every year for my Grandbaby but I think this might be the last year.
Small zoo that is under renovation. The African exhibit is by far the main animal attraction. It is a nice place to take walks and strolls while little ones get distracted.
I love the zoo they have always been very friendly each time I've ever been there.I think its a great place for kids.
A high price for a small zoo! When me and my kids went alot of the animals weren't even able to be viewed.
We've been to bigger zoos, but this one has some of the nicest enclosures and exhibits we've seen! We bought an annual membership and love it!
Outstanding! I love watching animals behave. Several of them really put on a show. I had a fabulous time watching and talking to them. The park is very clean. The weather started out a little cool and then warmed up beautifully. What should have taken maybe 2 hours to enjoy, took me almost four! The zoo is also very picturesque. I went during the Fall season so the colorful trees added to the wonderfulness of my venture. It's a great place to visit. Additionally, the Botanical Gardens are in close proximity to the zoo.
Really nice renovations. The exhibits are world-class.
Great zoo with an interesting layout that they continue to improve. Everyone is friendly. I wish they had the concessions open on the weekends and also wish the lines to buy tickets to the rides didn't take so long. Prices are fair. Great learning place for all ages.
Had a great time but I was wondering what happened to the bears?
