I went for the light show, and was really surprised by how nice the zoo has become. The lights were absolutely gorgeous and I loved the atmosphere and architecture of the zoo. The main downside was that they sold us a late ticket, and then closed the zoo before we had time to make it through the whole show. Plus, I couldn't tell if there would really be that much animal life variety if you came during the day. It did look like they have nice spacious habitats though!

Family enjoyed, one thing that is wrong, they have all winter to work on long waiting lines.it was sad to see elderly, children running wild because of long waiting lines hot and exhausted. Please put your heads together and come up with a way to fix it.

Felt deserted! Alot of the animal areas were missing their animals and really never saw many workers. There wasn't any shows or workers giving informative information about the animals like you use to walk by and hear. If you needed a ticket to ride train or carousel, you had to go back up front - The ticket machines were out of use so buy in advance with your zoo tickets! Basically, the employees and animals all seemed like they hated life ... almost like they just open the doors enough during this pandemic to get people's money to keep it running- which does make me sad too! One worker said something to one of the kids with us bc she touched the spider halloween decoration as she walked out the gate of the carousel ride.

All the animals seemed depressed which dampens your mood and overall experience. 80%of the animals were sleeping;15% were not in their "habitats". 5% seemed okay with where they were and interacted with you to an extent. Before our trip, I was excited to go and see the "cool" animals. SINCE the trip, I say release the animals back into their NATURAL habitats and let us admire them from TV and the internet. Once you go, most of you will agree with me.

The worse zoo I've ever been to. The animals look sickly, to say the least, and are not provided near enough room for them. A lot of the animals are alone, and you can see the sadness in their eyes and the way they behave. It's one of the saddest places I've ever been to. The only reason I didn't give this place 1 star was because the animals were alive. Most of your good zoos have habitats the size of this whole zoos footprint. I don't know why they're still allowed to operate.

Really great zoo, I am not just baised cause I live here, but everyone's friendly, everything is beautiful, there are a lot of animals, This place is a making of a fun day with the family. I think there could be more animals and the zoo has a lot of potential to grow. When I went on 02/29/18 they were reconstructing the main plaza and entrance. Excited to see what they have in store

Great zoo. When it is cold in the winter it is hard to find the animals as they are hiding from the cold. Nice staff. Bring a stroller if you have small children as it is a long walk around. Would recommend to others.

As usual, we had a wonderful time on May 24, 2019. Although there might be some who would prefer more animals, I found the number and variety to be adequate for the 3 elementary age children with me. The larikeet and giraffe feedings were a highlight of the day and the train and slide are always a hit. The food is priced extremely fair and in the summer there s a free splash pad. Birmingham has a zoo in which to be very proud. It will be even more enjoyable when the construction is finished, hopefully in the near future.

Half the zoo was closed and it was one way in and out thanks to covid. Made no sense though because it just crowded people up at every display. Too many people in my bubble and too little zoo for the $$$ spent. Thankfully my kids don't know any better and still enjoyed it. But they don't tell you anything is closed off or that its one way beforehand. Felt a little slighted.

As much as they say wear a mask at all times they don t enforce it. As someone who really doesn t want to get the virus, I hated how they didn t enforce it. The Zoo is very small, barely saw animals, and is overall just a big garden with a few animals.

The Zoo is a nice getaway. It is like an oasis in the city. You forget where you are and experience the animals in habitats created to resemble natural areas. There is a surprisingly large number of animals in this hidden treasure of Birmingham's.

We had a good time though there weren't as many animal exhibits as I'd expected based on other Zoo's I've visited in the past. Still had a great day with my son and an enjoyable field trip overall.
