Love the zoo, getting on the expensive side for those of whom have no membership, but knowing the money is going to better the experience helps me level out the cost, can't wait for covid to allow all experiences back as well as a real staff though

Nice zoo, good variety, staff was friendly. Got to see training with the elephants and that was awesome. Animals looked well taken care of, lots of enrichment. Wish I was going to be around for their glow event, it looks like it would be amazing.

Unfortunately this zoo needs much more space. I was very unimpressed with the train they promote because you can t see the habitats during the ride so there is no purpose. The cost was low and they provide student and veteran discounts which are great. Perhaps it will improve when they have completed the construction of the new entrance.

Right now if you want to visit the zoo its a waste of money. They are under construction and only have a handful of animals . It was a rip off and I really think we should've got a refund.

The Birmingham Zoo is awesome for kids, families, and anybody who wants to get a great view of lots of really cool animals. Check it out and take the whole family. My two grandchildren invited my wife and I the last time they went and we had a blast. Close by, inexpensive, and well run this is a great eat to spend the day. Make sure to get a chance to feed the giraffes. It costs a little extra but is is well worth it. Take a picnic lunch to save a little money and tailgate.

From Florida and love bush gardens zoo area and the Florida aquarium, this was a great zoo. Never been so close to the animals before. Group of 4 adults and 4 kids we were there from 9:30-3. The only disappointment was the train 20$ for us and all we saw were woods, rear of the maintenance buildings, and the elephants that you could barely see, about a ten minute train ride. Do not recommend wasting money on the train. Other than that great experience!

Disappointed to say the least! Not many animals to see and most look sad and look unhealthy. They also have poor habitats that are dirty and most of the glass is very dirty. Some of the staff is very rude. One woman said "get out of here! We are closed". When we were walking towards the exit. I will not be coming back anytime soon.

This zoo is just so amazing. They even had a sensory bag with noise cancelling head phones for my autistic son. We definitely needed them during the sealion show because the mic's were loud but the show was great. The splash pad was good for the kids to cool off after seeing all the animals. They have a new entrance and gift shop that's super nice. We loved train ride and carousel was fun too. We brought our cup from 2 years ago and even though they have new ones we still are able to use it :) We will return again next year.

Layout and land themes were good. line to get tickets took entirely too long for what was being done. Bathroom was disgusting and too small, sinks did not work, soap dispensers did not work. Had to leave one bathroom and walk to the next nearest one just to wash my hands. Many areas had dilapidated boards/wood/walkways. The zoo needs some maintenance work.

Christmas at the Birmingham Zoo is a great family time. The lights and displays are beautiful and definitely worth the time and price. The train was a long wait and we finally gave up and opted for the carousel. Due to Covid you get a specific time which makes it safe, too.

Fun

Not many animals in the zoo. The zoo needs more elephants because there is only 1 in the elephant habitat. There are no gorillas. The animals seem lonely. I dont see what $16 are being paid for if i have to pay for everything else inside the zoo. WASTE OF MONEY

It was a beautiful zoo. It looked like all of the animals had plenty of room in their exhibits. It was very family friendly as well. Nice places to get snacks and drinks. I even saw red pandas which are a fairly rare sight. I love it.

Place looked clean and the animals were nice. Wish they had more stuff to do in there cages some of them where almost empty save for the animal.

The staff however (those that are not caring for the animals) where some of the rudest and unprofessional people I have met. Shirts un tucked, talking on personal cell phones while working, unshaven etc. I asked a question 3x of one lady who was doing nothing and was ignored. Also the glass on the exhibits was filthy in some areas.

Too cluttered and line was to long. I been a member for 15 plus years. When they finish and reopen it will be nice again i hope and my gorilla i used to love to see was replaced by a cheteah. Not a good trade i may add.

The kids love this place and i like taking them. If you can time it right the seal training is fun to watch. The kids are amazed no matter how many times they ve seen it. If you go more than twice in a year the membership is worth it plus you get some perks that go along with it. My only complaint would be that the snacks are a little over priced so I d recommend bringing your own.

Not the best zoo ever. Avoid holidays as all your kids will see is blowup decorations everywhere. Be prepared to pay extra for the train and carousel. Nice to have a zoo if you live close by but I wouldn't recommend as a tourist destination.

The zoo was fun today. We had a 3 year old and a 9 month old. The train ride and the carousel was the 2 fun ride rides. The animal exhibits were good. We were early on Saturday morning and left at noon before the crowds were big. The zoo was well kept & the employees/volunteers were friendly and helpful. A lot of you families with young well behaved children. I would recommend it for a days outing. Some of the food places were closed probably because of the season.

Half the attractions were either closed or under construction. The only things that were actually open were all the money making places like the carousel, the train, and the concession stands and the restaurant. Speaking of which, had over 30 people standing in line waiting to order with 1 person running the show. Absolutley ridiculous! We are from Wellington, and drive all the way up there for half the animal attractions to be down, under construction or closed for temporarily? What a waste of money!!! You should let your customers know this up front when they call or inquire about it and or advertise which attractions are down before charging folks full price for half the events. Very disappointing. The entire reptile attraction was unavailable!

I took my 2 grandsons to the zoo today and was regrettable disappointed. There were not many people there with it being a Wednesday. You would think the staff would be kind and hospitable. That was not the case. The train director did not say a word during the train ride, the gentleman working the ticket stand just took the tickets without anything to say.
I feel like the zoo is extremely short staffed and the animals may be suffering from it. I truly believe one of the frogs on display was dead. The poor moneys were bundled together freezing.
The gift shop was not even open for us to purchase souvenirs for my grandchildren.
Again, very disappointed.

The zoo entrance is unorganized and frustrating. Members, nonmembers, people wanting to buy or renew memberships all get in the same long line. It needs streamlining!
The sea lion show is a bad joke. Scratched/ dirty plexiglass is between the audience and the performers. They should just take down the screen, forget the show and let the animals swim. The train ride is lame, nothing to see except at the end you can see the flamingos, giraffes and elephants in the distance. I know the zoo must pull in a lot of money; the place was packed yesterday. How is it allocated? Birmingham could have a nice little zoo if it was updated and reorganised.

Was very dissappointed at the lack of Covid precautions. Entrance postings did not clearly represent all of the closures throughout the park. Tieing things off and putting up plastic is not protecting anyone. It is dirty, finger printed, and several locations had trash receptacle odor. Glass was very dirty around exhibits and clearly not from just that day, souvenior machines still open with signs that say "caution, high touch area". The lack of cleanliness and added plastic around in high traffic areas would create an area that is habitating risk.

Rude staff at 205 Nutrition cafe. They gave us the wrong food and would not exchange it. A child's quesadilla and chicken salad sandwich (wrong item) was $27. That included a water and one sweet tea. I like the idea of having a zoo in Birmingham, but there isn't much to do and not many animals. I spent a lot of money there, and honestly I probably won't go back due to the rude treatment at the cafe. Kindness goes a long way.

Nice zoo, but too much vegetation overgrowth around some of the animals making it difficult to see them. The splash pad is a great way for the young ones to cool off after a day of seeing animals.

We went on a field trip. I loved it. It was my sons first visit and he really wanted to see the lion and tiger, two of his favorite animals, we didnt get to see either but it wasnt the zoos fault. In the gift shop there was a female cashier that was rude to us as well as other customers. She got rude with us because we wanted a straw, we were nice abt their rule but she was rude telling us abt it, there is a candy powder machine beside the register and alot of customers kept asking where the containers were to get some and she kept rudely telling them they will have to get in line and pay first but that could have been avoided with a sign saying to pay first to get the container.
