As a resident of Birmingham and someone who grew up going to the Birmingham Zoo, I am excited about all the improvements they're making. Brew at the Zoo and other adult oriented events are a fantastic addition to a venue mostly geared towards children.

Me and my family went there over the summer and my good lord it WAS HOT!!! But we LOVED seeing all of the animal unfortunately the bears weren't out and I didn't get to go on the zip line because I had open toed shoes so if you want to zip line you need to at least bring closed toe shoes and plenty of water we had a great time!!!

The zoo is great even though they are doing a lot of changes. We went on the 4th of July and the animals looked so hot. They have activities for the kids, cooling stations, a splash pad, play ground, two restaurants. We just walked and looked at the animals and it took 2 and a half hours. Had we had small children I'm sure it would take even longer. So if you do plan for all day. Especially at the petting zoo.

Awesome zoo for my 2 year old son! We got a membership this year from a Groupon deal and have gone once a week since we got the deal whenever we are able and he absolutely loves it. There are always new events and things for him to explore and he loves riding the train and carousel when we go, the reptile building is his other favorite area. We have been to three or four big shows and a good bit of smaller events they hold around the zoo and have fun at all of them. The zoo keepers and personnel are always very friendly and helpful if I've had any questions. I think we will certainly renew next year especially if we can find the same Groupon deal with the rides and all included.

Lot of construction going on right now. A couple areas closed, son it made it even smaller. A lot of felines! I did the train ride thinking you could see some of the animals from the "back" like others zoos, but no, nothing special. This is not the worst zoo, but not the best. The red panda is amazing!! His bright color was really surprising for me.

Very disappointed with our visit. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and interacted nicely with the kids. However, for a larger city zoo this place was very poorly laid out. The condition of the animals and their habitats left a lot to be desired. We visited the Chattanooga Zoo recently and the Atlanta Zoo a few months ago and this zoo was no where close in any regard to those two.

The zoo is set up very nicely even with the off season they had it set up for one way flow so you were able to look at all the exhibits and animals without worrying about running into people going the opposite way and trying to keep your distance. The zoo did a very nice job incorporating signs to "stay 6 feet apart" like "stay an alligators length apart making it a fun way to learn for kids.
The light up show that is running until January is a great way to see more cool lanterns that are set up around to zoo. If you are okay with seeing the animals at night I suggest just doing the one event instead of paying twice to see all the animals again.

The giraffe and monkeys were so stressed out. The African cats looked miserable. The park was immaculate and beautiful but you can't leave without feeling sorry for the animals that just stare at the wall...waiting for all of the "selfie pics" to be over with. I had mixed emotions about this place. They need to open up the linx and monkey cages. Giraffe on orher hand needed some brush or something...they were so stressed and pacing. It ruined the experience.

We love visiting the zoo! There are so many things to do. It s definitely best to go when it is not crowded so you can actually stop and look at all of the animals. We love coming to the different events that the zoo puts on, like Boo at the Zoo and Zoolight Safari. It s a great place for people of all ages.

This is a fun zoo for a family afternoon. It s on the small side for zoos and the shows seem amateur. They are doing a lot of renovating and I think that will make a big difference in the experience. We are members and go pretty often so it s possible that we have become bored with the same ol same ol.

I visited the zoo with my daughter for her field trip in the final week of November. At first I was nervous we wouldn't have enough to look at before the end of the school hours and walk away bored. When it's cold, most of the animals are indoors or put away, but I was pleased that there was still plenty to see and do. This zoo would be fantastic during the warmer months. The only con is how expensive it is. If I wanted to bring my whole family of 7 back for a day, we'd be looking at about $100 to get in and buy wristbands for the rides.

I think their animals need bigger encloses and activities choices within them. Most of the animals i look at today looked sad. I really didn't know how to process that. Birds were the animals that looked to be ok. It just wasn't enough space for most of the bigg animals. I feel they can do better. I would rather go to Montgomery Zoo there's lost of space,ur closer to the animals and u get the feed the Girraffs.

Had a good time, just too long a line for train and two staff members answering a question but neither taking my money in gift shop. Needs more seats and tables at restaurant, needs 2 ND restaurant.

The landscaping was beautiful and scenic. They had a diverse range of animals from across the globe. The only negative thing I can think is that the layout is somewhat random; for example, at the Memphis Zoo you have different regions like the African Veldt or Teton Trek where the animals come from that region.

I took the family there yesterday. At 3: 30 they started putting a lot of the animals up, although they don't close until 5. With this being said, we got there at 1, thinking we would have plenty of time to make our way and see all the animals. There were no gorillas, chimpanzees, baboons, cheetahs, panther, tigers, penguins, or other popular animals that a person would expect to see at a large zoo. The seal show was not very good at all. The lady didn't even talk about the animal like they did a few years ago. The best part was the bird enclosure and seeing the elephants... The food is way over priced (slushy w/zoo cup and a pretzel was $17.00). I know food and drink cost more at those places but that's a 200% mark up for sure... The staff was friendly (especially at the tortoise enclosure. They answered everyone's questions). The people running the camel rides was rude and seemed uninterested in anything you had to ask or say... I paid almost $100 to get 3 adults, 1 senior, 1 child, and 2 babies in and feel for that price, it wasn't worth the money..... Although it is better than Montgomery zoo (even though they do have chimps, baboons, etc).... We live almost 2 hours away and will not be returning as we live pretty much in close range to Nashville, Chattanooga, and can find other things to do for that kind of money.....it was a big let down and I wish I would have went somewhere else.... What you can expect to see there is a lot of oversized house cats, coyotes, and farm animals.

Visited today with my grandsons. Due to a Corona virus, it is a one direction path, and mask are required since it's in Birmingham. The primate and predator buildings are closed. There are plenty of reminders about social distancing. We enjoyed it even though it was hot.

We love the zoo so much that we get a membership every year. It s very affordable and pays for itself quickly. They have a train and a carousel which my daughter loves. In the summer they have a splash pad which is great too. There are two places on site to grab lunch and they are actually pretty good. See the sea lion show, feed the lorikeets and don t forget to check out the giraffes which are my personal favorite. You can also ride a camel during the warmer months. I almost forgot... there is a playground area, and a farm animal petting area!

This zoo is moderately large. Exhibits were decent and well maintained. I wish the paths between each main section was better planned, though. It felt that we were doubling back several times, and one path in particular is a winding path with no exhibits. A lot of wasted walking.

the zoo is extremely over priced, unless you receive extremely! general admission is 17.95 for adult, senior vets and first responders 14.95 children 12.95. but if you bring your ebt card 7 for children and 10 for adults. now how fair is that for the elderly. the zoo with covid is mostly blocked off. if you see 50 animals that would be a lot. I'll just drive to Chattanooga its cheaper and nicer.
