Wonderful zoo with a great variety of animals. Very good Covid-19 protocols in place. A great visit as well as a safe one. Absolutely recommend a visit.

We love Bham zoo. It's not spectacular, but it's a good place for a family outing. The new Wild Burger cafe is really expensive, but at least the food is good. My son loves it.
I agree, it is a beautiful place, but just not many animals and food and drinks priced to high
Enjoyed the day, needs more seats in Cafe and tables. Too many animals sick.
Always enjoy going. Never have any problems at the zoo and it's obviously a great place for the kids to enjoy.
Zoo was nice. We enjoyed it. Smaller than our Texas ones, but was clean and very nice people.
I Love this place and one time dinosaurs we're there and it was cool!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our local zoo may be in the middle of refurbishing or renovating most of its enclosures but it is always beautiful and clean. They offer many services and staff is always happy help. I love taking trips to the zoo!
$$PLAN TO SPEND A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS$$ Will probably not go back due to most of the animals not out in their exhibits. Their food, ice cream and beverages were WAY to high. I took my wife and our 3 kids and spent around $200 and that was just on admition, food and drinks. Very dissapointed!!!
Good for kids, fun animals, nice staff. Diverse environments.
Love my zoo membership. Take my grandchildren often
New adventures are on the way. Construction is nearly complete. Should be beautiful and spacious with plenty to see and do.
super great my children were delighted and especially tired lol we walked for 3 hours so it is better to be prepared
Like it but, I do wish that more of exhibits would work with just pass instead of buying extra tickets for different things.
I've been a long time zoo member and I love what they have done with it over the last several years. They are still working with the elephants so that all of them can be out in the largest enclosure at the same time, but they have them out there two at a time now. There's a second expansion in the works too that should bring some bears back, which I am really looking forward to.
Over priced on everything, Animals that are sopose to be in a zoo are not there. No tiger no lion no penguins, just farm animals. Never going back to this zoo.
It was a informative place on the importance of conservation.
I have been at zoo all around the country. I like this zoo, I just feel it's in a transition from good to great. I feel the nocturnal animals should be in an around the is darker like the Cincinnati zoo has so you see the moving and not sleeping. The exhibits that were inside could be better like painted landscape on the back walls. I also noticed larger inside exhibits did not have water in them. Like the anaconda exhibit. My family had fun and we did see animal behavior we have not seen before like a lion stalking a bird like a house cat. The food we not worth the price and the customer service was mediocre at best. Over all we had a good day we had fun it a nice zoo and the animal staff was great and communicated well with us and answered any question we had.
Full disclosure requires that I stipulate that I am accustomed to the zoo in St. Louis, which is significantly larger and cheaper with free admission.
It's not a bad way to kill a couple of hours. But to experience the rides (some as simple as a slide), buy a little item in the gift shop and get a bite to eat, you can easily spend better than $50 per person. Facilities away from the entrance are broken down and/or filthy. A large number of the habitats are empty and often poorly maintained. But the staff is almost disturbingly friendly.
First visit, spent almost all day enjoying the animals. A fyi for someone who enjoys going to the zoo, but has problems walking or standing for long periods of time, there are PLENTY of benches in the shade to sit and rest.
Went to the zoo as part of a day trip, and it was a super stop! Great variety of animals and fantastic environment for them. You can feed the giraffes, Rida a camel, and kids can play in the splash park! A great stop for the whole family on your visit to Birmingham, I highly recommend it.
This is a very good zoo which it compares favorably to all the zoo's I've ever been to.
Love my zoo membership. It means breaking away for an evening stroll with my wife or a lunchtime walk are possibilities that can be enjoyed throughout the year. A lot of construction right now, but I know that s a sign of health, even if it cuts down the enjoyment presently. The new seal trainer and her show are a Must see!
We have a membership, though we live almost an hour away. It's definitely worth it for a family that will visit a few times per year. The staff is excellent. The paths and grounds are very clean. There's a splash pad in the summer. There's a new area for kids to climb trees and run, but it isn't fenced all the way around, which is very annoying for a parent. But, it's nice, and my kids love it. Lots of new construction, which is exciting.
This was my first and probably last visit to the Birmingham Zoo. The visit was very underwhelming. The animal cages are VERY small and SAD (apart from the elephant exhibit, which is inexplicably large). The lions barely have any room to run around and hide. The condor and eagle cages are recessed, with low ceilings. The worst offenders are the Predator and Primate/Ape exhibits. The predatory animals have TINY, CONCRETE cages. Most of those cages don't have fresh air and barely any sunlight. The painted murals of vast savannas hardly make it better. The primate exhibit was the same. Some of the monkeys seemed downright depressed. The red pandas (who are usually very active) were just sitting there, starring at the floor.
This Zoo needs to focus on larger, fresh-air, exhibits for their current animals, instead of spending $18 million on updates to the entrance.
We had a blast at their Summer Half Price Day. The kid enjoyed the splash pad, butterfly house, farm animal, monkeys, rhinos and so much more. The Zoo is well shaded so even though it is hot it is not unbearable.
Birmingham's (and State of Alabama) most visited attraction. Great outing for anybody!
Alot of the exhibits were closed and missing alot of the animals you would expect to see at a zoo.
Well planned, environmentally friendly zoo. I loved it!
Always fun going to the zoo just wish they would move along with the construction and move the picnic tables closer to the entrance. Was there yesterday on a field trip with my daughters class and of course had to use those tables to eat lunch. That's a really far walk just to eat lunch.
I have been to several zoos around the country, Birmingham Zoo is by far the best. Once all of the upgrades have been completed this will be the premier zoo in the south.
I think this time the location showed open on the internet but turns out it was closed. I still love the ambiance of the area. I wish I could do more for the zoo
Great experience. All staff was very nice and informative about the animals and zoo. Very clean bathrooms and other public areas.
Boo at the zoo had a great time with friends and family!!!
Love our zoo. Wonderful updates. Nice change of pace so visit soon.
Love the zoo. Half the shows you couldnt see over crowds. The food place closes at like 4 and the zoo don't close till 7 so if you want anything to drink you better get it before 4 and enough to last till close.
My daughter loved seeing all of the animals, including the new jaguar. She also really enjoyed getting to feed a giraffe! Employees were knowledgeable and friendly. We will visit again when construction projects are completed.
We always renew our membership because the zoo and the splash pad make for a great summer afternoon outing for kids and we attend the special events during the holidays as a family. Large parts of the zoo are currently closed and under construction (set to reopen in 2018) which is unfortunate but will be worth it in the long run.
Nice Saturday activity for my 1 year old. I do wish that they had more interactive exhibits or shows to engage younger visitors
Perfect for small kids. Only takes a few hours to see it all
Need more scenery... Especially when riding on the train toward the end where you see only wooded area. ( Maybe Jurassic Park Scenery)...
Great place to bring kids staff very helpful. Will recommend go early for it does take a few hours to see everything
The zoo is amazing. We always wait to go until it is a special occasion like a birthday (3 adults @ $17, 2 seniors @ $14, then a free childs birthday ticket plus tax was $86.90) but for someone who wants to go often it is a great place to take small kids to spend the day.
The yearly membership is definitely the way to go if you want to visit often...
1 adult. $60
2 adults. $90
Family(2 adults and up to 6 kids). $140
Plus with the membership you can customize it and get really great discounts.
Loving the new entrance at the Zoo! So glad that our Zoo has been able to keep the door open all these years. Their recent campaign has been impressive and I hope they continue to keep up the improvements to make this an even better experience. The Trails of Africa section is the newest and is a great experience. The Alabama section is very cool to take a moment to see the bears and pet the goats up close.
We had a great time, even with it being crowded with field trip kids and parents. The animals were awesome!!
Nice for the kids. The really loved the close encounters with some of the animals. Train ride wasn't what we expected didn't really see much but a great way to get a breeze and rest. A few exhibits were closed and construction for renovations was going on but we still enjoyed and had a great time.
Although many of the animals were hiding or not in the habitat, it was a good experience.
Half of the exhibits were closed or the animals weren't there. For what they charge we should have been able to see all the animals.
The zop keeps getting better and better. We love taking the kids here to learn about and interact with the animals. I am so excited to see the new entryway that will hopefully open later this summer. One of our Birmingham family favorites.
Loved the shades on this very Hot Day great place to take the Children
The Birmingham Zoo is great. A perfect day trip for the family.
Ready for the remodel to get over. Parking is awful
Wonderful every time. The staff is very friendly and seem genuinely glad to help and the animals are well cared for in all aspects.
Very neat awesome staff awesome animals youneed to arrive before 12 pm if you wish to view every creature there .
Some animals not present. My son had a good time though.
Good place to spend a few hours. Lots of unique animals.
It would be better if the construction was completed
Zoo memberships are a fantastic deal for a family with young kids. And the new jaguar is awesome!
Most ehbites were closed, prices for food and drinks were too high.
