We had family drive up from Florida just to see our Zoo. It was for this couple's birthdays.
VERY SPARES! Every animal there looked like they were search for food or waiting to be fed! I was embarrassed frankly.

The animals were fine but pack a lunch. The food is absolutely terrible Sams Club mystery meat and chicken. The soda fountain will not even give you a top and straw so if you have a toddler you are screwed.

I love the zoo and the conservation work they do. Not to mention the education for kids to learn how to keep these animals for generations to come.
They have areas tied off...the primate building isnt open...aviary not open...but most animals re out to be seen.

My boys love coming here! They love the train, the splashpad, and especially the animals. I like that there are so many things and events that the kids can enjoy. I did not give 5 stars, though, because any food or drink is pretty expensive. After paying all the money to get in, seeing how expensive the food is motivated waiting to eat until you leave. However, my absolute favorite thing is the water bottle refill station. So handy and helpful.

We came here while visiting the area from Florida. Cost to get in was great. Very reasonable. While there, both restaurants were closed, many exhibits were closed or empty or roped off. A little disappointed. They do have some very cool animals though like boas and anteaters and mountain cats. Still, worth the price to see the animals. The souvenir shop though- prices are absolutely laughable. Avoid the gift shop unless you have money to throw away.

I took my youngest son, who loves animals. There was so much to see and do. You could easily spend the whole day. The staff was very friendly and informative. The kids loved feeding the lorikeets and the giraffes. The monkeys and elephants were family favorites. We also loved walking through the butterfly exhibit. They also enjoyed the carousel and the train. We finished the day at the splash pad, which was an excellent way to cool off after walking around in the heat.

So, I'm from Atlanta and I really like our zoo here, however, it really fails in comparison to the Birmingham zoo. You can get so close to the animals here, and they have feeding times everywhere. everything is well laid out, and even though they were doing construction at the time that I went, it was still kept out of the way and done tastefully. I was very impressed, and really look forward to going back in the future.

Great zoo! Absolutely loved all the exhibits though the fact that our tickets were never checked kind of made me feel like I could have easily just walked in without paying. Stuff is very expensive inside but the exhibits are incredible

Decent zoo but all the animals looked depressed and lonely. The only animals that had any room to run were the elephants and giraffes, all the others were basically in cages or had severely limited space.

My family of 5 and I had a fantatic time! A lot of the animals was visable but most was laid up around 1 pm .
Also as a suggestion giving everyone a hand map you be great when you pay for tickets or at least something with a list telling you what all is there with prices such as trains rides etc.

Our visit was outstanding. We visited most of the exhibits and finished at the gift shop. The zoo is well kept, and staff very friendly. For a smaller zoo it's a great experience. The train ride they have is a relaxing break from walking for a few minutes for parents.

The Birmingham zoo was very family friendly. We enjoyed it very much. It was a chilly day so some animals were not out and some of the paid encounters were not available but it didnt disappoint. We got a unlimited ride band for each kid and they rode the carousel so much. It was worth it. The bird encounter is great we enjoyed that. My only down side was construction. They are under a lot and it was a bit loud at times. Some paths was closed but it wasnt to inconvenient. We will likely go again!

We always have a fun time when we go. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The Zoo usually has a decent selection of things going on, too, for those that are interested. It's normally a good idea to check their site before planning a trip to see any upcoming events that may be taking place.

How dare you charge $100 for two adults and two kids for entry when EVERYTHING is temporarily closed without even mentioning all the closures and the atrocious state of the zoo prior to purchase! Absolutely appalling! Walking through this zoo was reminiscent of the post apocalyptic Jurassic Park 3 movie. Abandoned and empty exhibits everywhere. The best animal interaction of the day was a random squirrel running on the fence. Empty exhibit after empty exhibit, some full of storage materials. Unkept and abandoned. If you want to pay $100 for four people to see yellow plastic rope, plastic sheeting and this area closed signs then this is the place for you!

This place is huge. Plenty to do. We had to evacuate due to the hurricane. They gave all evacuees free admission. Even though it rained while we were there it didn't hamper the day. So much to do inside and out. All the animals are well taken care of and you can see the pride they take in their park. We will be back whenever in the area. Thank you for making a stressful time so relaxing and enjoyable.

The current construction gives the zoo a current 4. Of course that is temporary, but it forces different navigation than seasoned patrons are used to. They are doing an outstanding job upgrading the facility, once the paddocks are done, they look amazing. It's a different zoo each time we go.

I have grown up in the Birmingham Zoo even though a lot has changed since I was little it still is a nice place. They recently renovated the entrance of the zoo and it looks a lot nicer than it used to be. There is a lot to do in the zoo. One of the coolest things the zoo has to offer is a train system that goes around the zoo. The also have a large Africa themed area. My favorite animals in this zoo are the elephants. The zoo in general is very well maintained. Five Stars, would recommend!

A nice place for the family some of the eclosers were clearly not what is needed for the animals (especially on some of the birds) i had bought two bottles of water and it costed me 6 bucks and change.
