Exhibits were good, buildings need major work. Many of the walls had holes, and were rotted from leaks. Prices on anything inside the place are ridiculously overpriced. I was going to let my little one play on the splash pad so I went to buy a towel, $24.99 for a cheap towel. I understand the money funds the zoo and other things but its also expensive to get in. Parking lot is a mess, the extended parking lot is worse.

Bham Zoo is doing a fantastic job in spite of COVID19 restrictions! The staff are super friendly and helpful , keeping everything clean and safe. The "One Way" path is thoughtfully designed to see all the animals and provide handy places to stop and rest. It has air conditioned exhibits along the way, spaced to allow you to cool off at just the right times. The train ride is awesome for kids and at $3.50 per person, a good deal! As always, there are lots of species of animals to see and they all appear well cared for and healthy. The Bham Zoo is simply the best!

Best Zoo that we have been to. Animals are still out after rain showers and cool weather and staff members are super friendly. Plan on spending the whole day, as there is so much to see!

Not impressed with the habitats, many areas were closed off, appears to be in desperate need of funds, and animal attention. No bears, Seen only 5 ( at most) primates (small). Very sad and upsetting to me

Nice zoo, it's very cheap. The only thing I had a problem with is that all the animals were anxious. You could tell because they would be walking in circles. Made me a little uncomfortable and I hope they are being treated well. I know other zoo's that I've been to, haven't had animals pacing.

I took my soon to be 2 year old daughter for the first time this week and she had a blast. This was my first visit I maybe 20 years and from I remember things have changed quite a bit. O. The day we went it was half price admission and my daughter got in free for being a toddler. They've added a splash pad which was great. Being it's the summer in alabama. Not as many animals as I remembered and they didn't have the camel ride open when we went through. All amd all it was still a great time. We spent almost 4 hours there but you could definitely make a case to stay the entire day

Very pretty setting. There were quite a few limitations, which are out of the zoo's control due to restrictions from coronavirus. We didn't see that many animals, and lots of the exhibits are being redone. For the price we were disappointed, and it probably wouldn't have been worth it even without the restrictions.

It is a good zoo, but it's currently under renovation & construction, making it difficult to park, enter the zoo, and find one's way. The price of admission is rather steep, especially for families with children. One is frequently reminded of the privileges given to "members," making nonmembers feel less welcome. The many displays about endangered species, pollution, etc. are no doubt meant well, but after a while of this, I felt like I was being scolded for my sins against the Earth. It did not make me want to go back.

As the day started out rainy we were afraid we'd have to cancel. But it let up and we had an awesome time. The food was WAY better than we expected. Lots of fries, super hot, huge burger.

Love it

Good medium sized zoo. The COVID protocols are good. It's a bit unnerving when you first get there and see long lines but it's because they cycle 100 people through at a time. The wait wasn't much longer than it would be on a busy day. Once inside it's a very pretty zoo. Although the animal enclosures seemed a bit small and a few parts are in need of renovation. Which they do seem to be working on. The whole place is set up to be one direction of flow and that works well for the most part. There are only a few spots where it gets narrow and can get too crowded. Overall it's a good place to visit and we will probably go back again.

If you desire to see wild animals, DO NOT go to Birmingham zoo! It is a waste of time and money. You walk around in smothering heat and the animals are few! There were not a wide range of predators (only two lions; male and female). There were not any snakes, bears, gorillas....and the list goes on. This place is a total rip off!! I asked where were specific animals located. I was told by one of the staff, " We don't have gorillas and tigers". You will he better off attending the wildlife park in Georgia!! I will never attend the zoo in Birmingham again. If you like giving your money away for services not rendered, then this is your place!!

PROS: The animals are very well kept! I was amazed at the zookeepers' skills and interaction with the animals. I witnessed a fox doing tricks that I thought only dogs could do!!!! And the lady that was feeding the sloth was so patient and invested in the care of the animal! (I hope she's not still in there feeding him...he was definitely slow and slothy.)The renovations look nice, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. CONS: The gift shop needs an upgrade, but more importantly... THAT ZOO NEEDS MORE WATER FOUNTAINS!!!!!

I haven't been in years so what a nice surprise it was to see all the changes. Went there for a wedding thinking, "who does that?" However, the venue was very nice, the settings very lovely and shockingly you couldn't smell a single animal.

The reception was held under the large hut by the elephant pin, hyt again, no smell. The zoo did a great job hosting this event.

Although it's rather small, the zoo is making lots of improvements & adding new exhibits. The animals look healthy & happy. Love the traffic circle outside the entrance with a walkway from the zoo to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Makes it easy to visit both.

Liked this zoo a lot. Great variety of animals. Did feel a little sorry for the animals, they didn't have very nice enclosures. Liked it better than the Atlanta zoo, lot less busy, lot cheaper, and more to see
