So they missed my delivery appointment AND lost one of my boxes. To be fair, I only had three boxes stored, and the lost one is probably worth above $500 and also has all my notes and books in it!!! Almost impossible to reach on phone, I called them over 10 times everyday and always get to voicemail. This is my second time using BRSS and they missed my appointment the first time as well. Definitely will not use again.
I have worked with Big Red Shipping and Storage for 3 years now. Big Red Shipping and Storage is the best option when it comes to storing college stuff. I was abroad for the semester and Big Red Shipping and Storage was very flexible and accommodating when I got back to plan when I could move in. The students who work for Big Red Shipping and Storage are excellent, respectful, and organized. I would highly recommend using Big Red Shipping and Storage.
Worst experience ever. They didn't show up without any notification. After that, I rearranged the pick-up date but they again suddenly cancelled my appointment on that day. They wasted my time and energy. They are not reliable. The manager didn't even express any apologies. Only explanation given was "due to high volume of deliveries." If so, they should have contacted me in advance or not confirmed the appointment. I don't recommend using their service if you find any alternative.
I had used BRSS several times as a Cornell student with no major problems. I remember that one of my roommate's boxes was absent for about a week, but that was the worst--until my experience this fall. I stored my belongings over the summer, while I was traveling after graduation, and then scheduled it to be shipped to my new address in another state. I checked with them in May to make sure I could do this, and they said it would be fine if I made the shipping appointment over the summer.
A week after the shipment was supposed to be sent (late August) I had received neither my boxes nor any notification of any sort; I contacted them via the link in their website (because no one would answer the phone). After several emails, I finally got a response, which was admittedly professional and apologetic: they said they had accidentally overlooked my request and would send out the shipment in several days, after the labor day weekend.
Another week later, I still hadn't heard anything. I emailed them again, multiple times again, and finally received a response saying that they had, indeed, processed the shipment. In another week--nearly three weeks after my initial request for shipment--I finally received my boxes. One of them (a plastic tub) was broken, though I'm not sure whether that was because of BRSS or FedEx.
TL;DR: I paid $500, I had to wait three weeks to receive my shipped goods, I had to contact them several times to get any response on several occasions, and one of my boxes was damaged.
I understand that they have a huge volume of goods to process, that they are a student-run company, and that there aren't many viable alternatives in Ithaca. Nonetheless, I was completely disenchanted with my experience, and I'm thankful I no longer have to rely on their services.
I have used Big Red Shipping & Storage twice and I fully recommend its service. I recently graduated early and needed to store my belongings before I move to NYC. The team at BRSS was extremely accommodating to my situation and were very responsive to my questions. After I settled down in NYC, I called BRSS who promptly shipped my things within 2 business days, with a detailed receipt sent to my e-mail. I endorse BRSS' service and its top notch management team. Whether you need to store things for the summer or need to ship it to another part of the country, they will definitely meet your needs.
I had a pretty good experience with this company. I graduated last year and decided last minute that I would need to store half my things from my apartment over the summer. I was able to make an account on their website pretty easily and schedule a pickup appointment for the following day. Appointments are scheduled in 2-hour intervals, so you might have to be patient as they could possibly arrive toward the end of that interval as they did with me. The rates are a definitely a little on the higher end, however I personally think they made up for it with their convenient service and reliability. I say they are reliable because I didn't know if they would be able to ship my things on time out to my new residence in the city. However, after telling them that exact date I wanted my things delivered on, they were able to send me a tracking number for the shipment the very next day. Fortunately, everything did come in one piece, which I was grateful for after seeing that picture of the crushed box on this review page. Overall, despite their higher rates, I found their service to be more than satisfactory. So, if you need a place to store your things and you can spare the money I would, without a doubt, recommend this company.
My daughter arranged to use them with an appointment for pickup on Sunday evening... no show. Voice mailbox was full so couldn't reach anyone. Scheduled 2nd pickup for monday evening vis email.....no show again. had to go with another Company as big red BBC was totally unreliable.
I've used 3 times and have been generally happy. BRSS has been responsive and fulfilled their commitments promptly.
The biggest problem I've had involves use of the website. It is extremely user unfriendly and difficult to use.
I am a current student at Cornell. I wanted to store some of my things over summer break, so I decided to go with BRSS. I placed an order for them to come pick up some boxes on May 18th. No one came for the boxes, despite my constant calls to their office. Then, on May 19th, someone was scheduled to finally come pick up the boxes. No one came again. These people are in no way professionals, please ship or store with another company.
The team that helped us was nothing short of wonderful! Friendly, helpful and took extreme care with our items. They were on time and took all the worry out of the process. Thank you so much!
I had a great experience using BRSS. I had a few questions about the website, and one of the managers was more than happy to walk me through the process step by step. My items were picked up and delivered on time. Would definitely recommend!
I have been using Big Red for many years now for shipping and storage and I am very satisfied and impressed by their service.
Their student workers are very professional and reliable and the staff at the office are very communicative. They re a pleasure to work with and I will definitely keep using them. Thumbs up - keep on with the good work!
wanted to personally share my experience with Big Red this past week. I would have never been able to get through my freshman daughters move-in with such ease if it weren t for Andro Zunic.
I originally shipped (ground Fed-Ex) 4 boxes and one large duffle bag from CT to Big Red. Unfortunately, when Fed Ex came to our home to pick up the 5 pieces, they only had 4 call tags. I was told, that when the boxes got to the first Fed Ex hub, they would take 2 boxes and place them in one larger box, thus the 4 call tags. Long story short, after about a week of only being able to identify that 3 boxes arrived to Ithica, I called Andro for some advice. He offered to take over by contacting fed ex and trying to figure out what happened to my other box. He and I spent a considerable amount of time on the phone (I was very worried that my daughter s stuff was lost). At some point, he realized that the extremely large box that had arrived, was probably too large for just the two boxes that we thought may be housed in the one box. After opening the box, which was extremely distressed, he found all the items dumped in- clothes, towels, shoes, etc, in no particular order. It was a mess!! Andro asked that I send a detailed list of all the items that I believed to be in the 3 unidentified boxes , and he and his team went through it, item by item to take inventory. He then offered to repack the items in 3 more manageable boxes. Fortunately, everything was accounted for. Some reason, along the way, fed ex chose to open up 3 boxes and dump them into the one, with no record or trace.
Andro far exceeded what I would expect in customer service. This young man showed maturity and confidence in dealing with a not-so-happy customer without ever losing patience. He even contacted me to assure me that he was going to take care of it and to please don t lose any sleep over it . He deserves to be recognized for handling what could have been a very messy situation.
Thank you to Andro and your team for your wonderful service and professionalism. I look forward to using your services for my daughters next 4 years at Cornell.
Absolutely terrible customer service. I put about 800 worth of stuff in my boxes. They did not make it to the first appointment. When I called, they simply said they forgot to deliver and that they will deliver it the next day before 2 pm. I waited until two pm the next day and called again and they said they had communication issues and that they were unable to deliver it. They then said they would get it to me the next day before 5. Five pm came and they tell me THEY CANNOT LOCATE MY PACKAGE! You're better off leaving your package on the sidewalk than store with these thieves. Wish I can give ZERO stars!
My son is a freshman this year and I reached out to Big Red Shipping. I called several times for info and a nice employee took the time to explain everything to me and help me navigate through the process. I was of course nervous with spending so much on items for college but they came highly recommended so figured I would give them a try. I labeled everything EXACTLY as I was told and it was delivered and waiting upon on our arrival this year. Made it a smooth transition for us in a very hectic time. Definitely happy with their service and I do recommend.
Do not use. Terrible service. They missed my delivery appointment and after waiting for several days, my stuff still has not been delivered. They rarely pick up the phone and they ignore your emails. The worst part is that I am not the only one in this situation. I went to Student Agencies and found out that their phone has been ringing not stop, with a full voice mailbox, and students and parents have been coming in to complain. Save yourself the stress and avoid this company.
I used Big Red to hold a few boxes of stuff from my freshman dorm on Cornell's north campus and had a great experience! They were really friendly and made sure all of my items were handled properly.
Terrible service. Always late for picking up appointments and my stuff wasn t even in my room when I moved it. I had to wait for 6 hours before they brought my stuff to me even thought I specifically arranged for pre arrival drop off. Way to overpriced for what you get. They don t even deserve a star. I wouldn t recommend to anyone I know.
I recently booked an appointment with Big Red Shipping to pick-up my items on Monday for a Wednesday pick-up. No reply to my online appointment or my phone calls so I went to them in person. Gave two numbers, mine and my roommates, and address. Missed my appointment with no call or email and wasted two hours of my roommate's time.
Tried to re-book to a Saturday pick-up (in the email, took no responsibility for the missed appointment, said it was likely my fault and I probably put the wrong phone number... when I put down two phone numbers and my email and none were contacted) and appointment was confirmed. Again, no-show. Emailed them to cancel my appointment with them and received no reply. No email to apologize for the incident or anything. Very rude communication from beginning to end.
Went with Storage Squad and had a 10x better experience. Showed-up 10 minutes early, sent texts/emails before they came, very responsive. Used to love using BRS and experienced great service in the past, but will never use it again.
We recently used the pre-arrival service offered by BRSS for Cornell Fall Move-In. The BRSS instructions on the website were clear and easy to follow. We sent several boxes via FedEx Ground to the BRSS site. We moved in this weekend and all boxes were eagerly waiting for our arrival in the dorm room. The BRSS pre-arrival service made move-in day much easier and less stressful. Hope to use BRSS for summer storage and future fall move-in activity. One recommendation for the future - more active and timely communication by BRSS via email when the boxes are received by BRSS and when the boxes are delivered to the dorm rooms.
Big Red completely eliminated the stress of moving out and delivered my boxes right on schedule. A reliable and efficient service!
I used BRS three times and they got my four boxes lost. The operators are not responsive. They do not care about your stuff; the only thing they care is money.
Needed a special delivery and Big Red Shipping & Storage was very accommodating. Worth the money, appreciate the service!
Luca and his team were great. We needed an extremely large number of boxes to be stored. It was a struggle for them, but they did it without any complaints and absolutely no damage to the items. Thank you!!
This storage company is one of the absolute worst. They overcharged me $300, lost 4 boxes, and when I received all my storage almost two months later, all my boxes marked "fragile" had been torn in half and repackaged using partially assembled boxes and masking tape. All my dishes, glasses, nail polish, and literally anything else I owned that could be broken was shattered, and those poorly reassembled boxes were full of glass so crushed it was dust. Only after another month did they refund me $300 of the $1200 I paid to ship and store my personal belongings...and I only moved from Ithaca to NYC. I literally would've been better off throwing all my stuff away instead of paying this terrible company for destroying it.
My daughter used Big Red Shipping and Storage all 4 years of undergrad at Cornell and also used them postgrad. The staff, especially Brandon was professional, courteous and very detailed. Big Red Shipping and Storage is a student-run agency of Cornell University, however, they were just as good or better than any professional moving and shipping company. They have always handled my daughters' belongings with the utmost care. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Would definitely use them again and again.
This place doesn't even deserve a star. I made an appointment with this company at 9 am for a packing service and I explicitly told them that I have to move out by 1 pm on the day so that they should be on time. The person showed up 50 minutes late, not ready to pack, thinking that it was a pick-up appointment. I might get charged $200/hr penalty from my renting office for vacating my apartment late. This company is just not reliable.
Quick and convenient. @Luke Bushner is an exceptional manager and took care of all my shipping needs in an expeditious and professional manner.
They picked up my boxes right on time, and had them in my room when I returned from my summer break. Very professional and friendly workers too!
Do NOT use this storage company! Beyond bad. Stored my son s belongings over the summer. Arranged for delivery two days prior to beginning of semester. Received a confirmation email with a two hour window. Never showed. Never called. Never emailed. Never answered my several emails. Voice mail box full. Items stored AWOL including kitchen items, furniture and expensive winter clothing. HELP!!!
Really good, efficient and friendly, always on time and no problems with delivery. Would full recommend to everyone.
The staff of BRSS worked on a move we had that involved transporting the belongings of an entire house and an apartment into storage and then back again 7 weeks later. They were terrific! We were especially impressed with the care the crew took when moving back into our newly painted house (with new wood floors). There was not a scratch on a thing. They were fast, good humored, efficient and cost effective. I appreciated the leadership of the team and the professional correspondence all throughout the project.
We would hire them again in a New York minute.
Terrible service. When my stuff was delivered I was told that it needed several days to get my suitcase. I waited for FOUR months and contacted them about ten times and the progress was none. Communication was extremely inefficient. Emails and text messages were left unanswered and when they got answered no real progress was made. No one would contact me if I didn't frequently reach out. My missing suitcase was marked "delivered" in the website for the whole time. Totally frustrating experience. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
So far our first impression of this company has been noted as unreliable, unorganized, and zero customer service training. A student/Manager displayed a lack of service excellence by telling my daughter that they have been busy fulfilling new orders and CANNOT deliver the missed order. Even if this is fact, this is not an example of what is said to frustrated customers! Other employees complained that there is "nothing they can do" due to lack of communication between warehouse and office personnel. Again, not the correct response to an already frustrated customer!
My daughter is a freshman this year who attended a summer program at Cornell which ended 1 week before move-in. Her summer program recommended Big Red Shipping & Storage to store her dorm room essentials until move-in. My daughter received email confirmation for delivery on Saturday of move-in weekend. As of this TUESDAY evening, NO DELIVERY, only empty promises. My daughter has been given the run-around everyday since Saturday by every employee there on phone and in person. How can this level of service become a "preferred vendor" at Cornell? So sad that I must get involved because my student has already started Orientation and soon classes! Unacceptable treatment of our Cornellians.
Big Red Shipping and Storage was incredibly understanding and accommodating of my unique and highly specific storage needs. When I arrived back in Ithaca, fresh off an exciting summer in Australia, they returned my boxes within 2 hours of me calling their office 15 times. The managers (Max and Claire in particular) were polite, communicative, and efficacious in responding to my storage needs. I was thoroughly impressed by their service, especially considering that the company is entirely run by full time students (who have class and other obligations on campus just like me!).
Even when I did not schedule an appointment correctly on time, failed to answer my phone when a field representative called, and scheduled an appointment within the 48 hour blocking period, Max and Claire went above and beyond to return my things and placate by beating heart. Even better, my fragile items, which I had packed rather hastily and without proper wrapping, were all intact and unbroken, a true testament to their attention to detail and delicate handling of all boxes.
In the future I will continue to use Big Red - a Student Run, Student Led organization that supports the Cornell community and provides an invaluable service to Cornell Students. I would urge fellow reviewers (positive or negative experience) to do the same. In my opinion 99% of the time Big Red will exceed your expectations for a storage company - however the rather mundane nature of storage means that only the most jilted customers will write reviews, leading to the misleading perception that this is not an incredible and well organized operation.
I went with Big Red's pre-arrival service my freshman year and it took so much stress off of me and my parents during in the move-in period. Everything was already in my room when I got to campus and all I had to do was unpack. The managers were also super helpful earlier in the summer when I had to call them to clear up some confusion on the box labeling system.
