One of the biggest airport in the world, need to change the terminal while transitioning to another country. Not tricky after completing immigration check go downstairs and straight away catch the train which comes every 2 mins to another terminal which is domestic from their you can go to city or hotel or any tourist location wherever you wanna go.

In the last 45 years I have arrived or flown several times to the various airports in Beijing. Even the 'ancient' airport in the 1970s was more effective and clearer than the current one. Freezing cold in winter, greenhouse in summer. The processing of immigration is very slow. But I have had positive experiences a few times. Especially when younger female officials sit behind the Plexiglas panes. Even with short visas (48 or 72 hours) there were different waiting times. I currently feel the health checks are not effective. In my opinion, samples are not sufficient. Linguistic communication (English) is also sometimes very, very poor. I personally benefited from my Chinese language skills. The countless shops close very early in some cases. This is a problem especially for those travelers who want to fly west> Europe. Currency Exchange? Just not here! Fees up to 20%! Transport to the center about 30 km away> e.g. Tian Men Sqare best and cheapest by bus. Alternatively with the U-Tube. Taxis sometimes outrageously expensive despite the taximeter. Disadvantage: Especially in rush hour, which is almost 24 hours, very long queues. My conclusion: All in all, not an airport that does justice to a metropolis of this size. The Shanghai Pudong is even better positioned there. And in my eyes the stay is like a nightmare. Note: Unfortunately I have not yet got to know the new Giga-Airport Daxing personally. But that will happen in the coming month.
Soon the worlds biggest airport. Plenty of kareoke booths, but nothing much to do otherwise. Quite booting actually. Not much shopping either. They have some small hidden souvenir ships scattered around terminal three, that has some gems, but besides that it just lots of space. Any a cool cealing.
The airport is large, 2 hours in transit, the procedure is exactly 2 hours to get on the flight, the security staff always rushes to hurry, but in reality, the passengers do not have a place to do the procedure. Security checks are very difficult, small backpacks are portable, in which everything must be spent out, very hard and time consuming to do this job, Very bored when having to transit this airport
Worst airport so far that I have been too. Worst customer service. The staff were racists. We had to wait in the airport for 4 hours for our next flight. They didn't have WiFi. Never going there again, rather pay more money for my flight in order to avoid that airport. It doesn't even deserve 1 star
The worst airport I have ever been to. Regardless that there are not places to rest when waiting for the next flight, the custumer service is awful. Even though we had just a transfer flight and we did't go to visit China we were treated realy bad. The security check was just a nightmare. If you don't have to please keep as far from here as you can.
Beautiful airport with great variety of shops and helpful staff. Security here is a bit overbearing for a westerner, but one can't help but appreciate great architecture and modern facilities. If you are flying into the airport check your floor levels and take the airport express it is highly recommended to travel Beijing via the subway. Cost efficient and effective.
If you have the opportunity to avoid this airport, then definitely do it. Very unfriendly staff, not heated, no smoking areas. Lighters must always be delivered ... these are even removed from the checked baggage. Simply impossible.
I spent a night there, I found a capsule that allowed me to sleep in peace, without being disturbed by the light. Very good airport accessory. Thank you Beijing ^^
Naturally, this is a very complex airport. Study their website if you want the best experience. Transportation, WiFi, and more have explanations. Hints are also available for security hints and so on. You will be much happier if you study this first.
The taste is a little different from KFC in Japan, but I ate it because it was cheap and large. There are not many seats available in the store because there are many travelers who stay long after eating.
Horrible. Like a jail cell. 8 hour layover trapped in terminal 2 with no real food, no where to comfortably rest, concrete floors, desolate. Worse than you could imagine and staff wouldn't let us out. Highly reconsidering ever visiting China on purpose. What a nightmare.
Beijing airport has all the essential facilities and amazing staff. Even though all staff here doesn't know English very well, they tried to help as much as they can. You can access unlimited WiFi by scanning your passport in one of the machines. But please be informed that websites and social media sites such as Facebook ,Google, WhatsApp all are blocked in China so if you want to use any of it you might need the help of a vpn. If your layover here is quite long you can even pay visit to the great Wall of China and the forbidden palace nearby.
Large and very clean airport. I used it for a transfer, but it was very crowded and it took time to check my luggage. The food in the lounge inside the airport was delicious, and it was an airport where I wanted to take a leisurely look as well as the time to transfer.
Not a terrible airport, but a bit of a pain to get to due to how far it is from the main city area (although the subway link is somewhat convenient). The design of the airport is not as friendly as it could be (some weird separation of what's inside and outside customs, lots of places that seem overcapacity, weird seating and gates, etc.) Not a terrible airport but not a great one, and the internet situation is pretty bad for foreigners.
I arrived at 7:00 in the morning 2 hours before and scheduled to board a domestic flight ... But even if it was time ... After 11 hours, boarding started ... Although the lunch was served twice ... I got a hotel after arriving. There are almost no English-speaking staff on domestic flights ... but some of the staff were very friendly. But it s so big!
Signage at the airport is unclear. This was the first airport (I ve been to a few) where I didn t know where to head after getting off my first flight. The security check when transferring to another felt unnecessarily oppressive and intrusive. The air con close to my gate was blowing cold air (in March), so I was freezing by the time I boarded the connecting flight. The airport also gives you a chance to experience crudely censored internet. I didn t expect this to be that underwhelming.
Massive airport. Many restaurants and shops. Most services shut down after midnight. Airport staff were not unfriendly, but not helpful due to limited skills in English. They used Google Translate to communicate with me when I was there.
There is an especially dedicated subway leading right to the airport and the cost is RMB 25/- and the stops are limited to only Terminal 2 & 3.
As per the laws for aviation in China, it s not allowed to carry the batteries in the check in baggage and has to be carried in the hand baggage.
During the security check they instructed me to remove all the batteries and put them separately which included the camera batteries, external power bank, etc. It s really hectic to remove all and then fix them back in after the clearance.
Pathetic excuse for an airport. Had to wait in line for 3 HOURS to NOT get a Visa so I could go out of the airport and be back within 72 hours. Had a 12 hour layover there but still, such a waste of time. Everything was so slow there, there were always long lines that moved slower than the pace of a snail. At every point there were always too few people working and they worked INCREDIBLY slowly. Everyone was super unhelpful, unattentive, and hardly anybody spoke a lick of English - it's the nation's capital, how is that even possible? I arrived at 5:30am and literally did not get out of the airport until 9:30am. Once out it once again took ages to get anywhere because hardly anyone spoke English and service was so poor. Was told to wait multiple times by different service people as they turned their attention to something else and yelled at each other in Mandarin. All around it was pretty stressful. The airport is located far from the city centre, took us 40 minutes by taxi to get there so isn't even conveniently located.
When I came back to catch my flight had to catch a shuttle bus for 15 minutes to Terminal 2. Why are Terminals 1 and 2 so far away from the rest of the airport? Then had to wait AGES in line again - and then had to walk down and out onto the tarmac where it was freezing and then catch a SHUTTLE BUS for 15 minutes to the actual plane which was in the middle of nowhere. Seriously?
The plane had a stopover in Hangzhou, where everybody had to get off and wait in line for FOREVER to go through 2 exact same passport security checks - seriously, 2 long lines one after the other for the same thing - before we were ushered onto another airplane with the exact same people who were sitting in the exact same seats. Why the stopover if everything was exactly the same? This was China Eastern Airlines, and coming over to Europe I had flown partway with Air China. Both are incredibly poor. China Eastern doesn't even have a TV screen for a 12 hour flight. Never again. In the future I would absolutely pay more money to fly with a different airlines, and to avoid any stopover at a Chinese airport. The service at the airport and the wait times were ridiculous. Coming from Zurich where I literally completed check in, cleared customs and boarded within 30 minutes - all while running really late - Beijing airport is really pathetic.
The airport has a look and feel of a 3* hotel, you would expect something much better for an airport that size and importance. Everything takes time - so make sure that you plan for that. Air China lounge is similarly quite basic. At the very end of the lounge there is a bar where they serve wine and liquor (only beer at other stations around the lounge) and have a proper espresso machine - for no obvious reason it's hidden.
Freezing cold in night, really few place to rest. custom and safety check treat you as criminal, and will take anything they can from you, even if you're on an international transfer. It also doesn't have any smoking place. And the showers or really dirty.
Avoid if possible!! Ok things while going through hand luggage yet search your bags and break into your suitcases to take what they've said is ok and more?? My bag got emptied on the floor because 'they were in a rush'. Patted down by three men. Horrible staff... Was in duty free and this woman said her till was closed and then started searching people who were from beijing.
The Service: The staffs could be a little bit impatience but they are efficient. At the security check, they constantly rushing people. I felt like the security check is tighter over there.
The Airport: There are always staffs cleaning everywhere. The airport is very clean. There are stores for food/beverage & gift shops. They do have high-end retail stores at the terminal.
From the immigration to baggage claim and also connecting flights, you have to take a airport tram to different building.
Worst treatment in Airport Security. Do yourself a favor and don't buy a ticket that passes by this airport. Don't even go to Beijing!
My husband and myself wonder as to why the Airport Security people are so aggressive, shouty and very rude even when passengers are willing to comply with the rules and process anyway. I'm even surprised they still got a 3 star review when this should be only 1. The staffs' rudeness level is sky high!
So we have a connecting flight in Beijing going to the Philippines from Canada. In Canadian, U.S., Europe and Australian airports, any liquids, formula and baby foods that's being brought for the baby's needs are allowed. In Beijing, no it's apparently not the situation and they have to be ridiculously mean about it too.
They confiscated my baby's 100ml lotion and kept on shouting at us "FOLLOW ME! FOLLOW ME!" We were surprised as to why the attitude was like we smuggled drugs or something. But then we just shrugged our shoulders and waited for the man to move cause he's been shouting "FOLLOW ME" for about 5 minutes. But then, the man was not moving so we were not moving at all as well. He then made a louder shout of "FOLLOW ME! LOTION NOT ALLOWED! FOLLOW ME!!!" I then told the man that if they're going to confiscate my baby's lotion, I at least want to have a last squeeze on it to use to my baby. I WAS BEGGING... Because my baby has an eczema and that I need to apply lotion on her skin as often as possible. The next leg will be 6 hour long so I asked if I can just have a last squeeze and then from there, I'll just buy a lotion on our destination country. But the man in security just keeps on shouting and scratching his ears saying "NO UNDERSTAND?! FOLLOW ME! NO ALLOWED LOTION!", so I didn't get to have a last squeeze and my baby had to endure a few hours of skin dryness.. At that point I was already crying. These people are ruthless and they did not stop there. They even confiscated my baby's unopened pouches of baby foods, which she was about to take as we settle on our gate in Beijing. She hasn't eaten yet at that point and there these security people were, just grabbing our stuff without even decently talking to us, rather shouts at us, takes our things and shoo us away like we have smuggled illegal drugs as we TRANSIT to another flight!
I mean, I think I can take the rudeness if it's only towards me or my husband. But to my baby?! Beijing Airport staff, YOU CAN TREAT A BABY PASSENGER LIKE THIS?! We're not even going in China, we're literally just passing by!
That's enough experience for us not to go back in that hell. Oh, I mean, airport.
Nice and beautiful airport You can reach the airport by metro Or go to the city center by metro Because it costs you 18 yuan As for taxi, you may pay 170 yuan Savings required :)
It's a huge airport. It has many lounges and terminals that are linked via trains. It has great ambience. It has alot of shops, restaurants and cafes. But they must have a Halal food restaurant. Cold, warm and hot drinking water dispensers are found on various spots with disposable cups free of cost. Free wifi is not available for unless you have sim.
Best, most efficient airport in the world. Very expansive, very beautiful architecture. Large enough to handle big crowds with no jostling. I had no problems getting around. All the food and amenities were very inexpensive. Service was friendly formal and excellent. Customs agents were formal and friendly with no problems. Air China is the best airline in the world. I experienced no discomfort whatsoever dealing with Beijing Capital International Airport or Air China. Plenty of inexpensive parking.
This is by far the worst airport that I've ever had the misfortune to fly through. Be warned, you will probably miss your transfer flight at this airport unless you have 4 hours or more as you have to go through a shuttle, security, and customs all over again. The smog in the air as they make you wait outside will sting your eyes and lungs. Stay away from this airport!
Arrived at 2am instead of 5pm because politicians had apparently decided to privatize the airport .... I had to wait until 9am to find a solution for my correspondence without any support. No excuse, no compensation, just a disdain just bewildering. Balance: arrived 24 hours later to my destination. Cherry on the cake, they lost my luggage that arrived a week later. Flee like the plague Air China and this country for your connections.
Airport staff doesn t know enough English and they are rude instead of helpful. All takes too long and airport security is obsessed with lighters and power banks specifications that if don t comply with airport rules are apprehended.
*DO NOT* USE THIS AIRPORT FOR ANY LAYOVER - As a first time traveler.. I wanted to cry, NO ONE speaks English! Staff are rude and unfriendly, impossible to connect to wifi.. to many people everywhere!! 6 hour lay over - worst experience of my life. I WILL NEVER FLY AIR CHINA AGAIN.
Airport Express is cash only, WiFi is crap, even some charging outlets are broken (it is easy to find a working one though). At the security the tables are very small, but they require you to unpack energy banks and cameras plus the usual stuff.
International transfer require doing passport check, we checked our laguge in Korea and bought liquid in Korea duty free, it got bagged and sealed for transfer but the customs in China threw it away. they open all the bags and check all the people one by one so the waiting lines are extremely long, they shout in Chinese and they don't know a word in English, my boyfriend had a big surgery few years ago the security guy even checked his scars. if you have to transfer through China take in mind you will need to go out of the terminal, wait until your counter open and do the normal checking all over again even if you don't have your suitcase. I recommend not buying anything in the origin conutry duty free when on transfer, and if possible avoid connection flights from Beijing airport, especially if u take off from terminal 2 and not from the big terminal 3.
The airport has international transit but the procedure is slow and cumbersome, queuing up on the stairs. Search customers' handbags. Visiting 2 times was disappointed.
You ll see the most helpful, welcoming and nice airport staff in the world. The restrooms are very clean. They ll even greet you in English! Incredible experience.
Be aware that Chinese airports has strict security checks upon entering the airport. Make sure you plan your time ahead when travelling from Beijing.
Had to line up for an hour to get through customs after a flight while the chinese citizens went straight through. Terrible service if youre an international traveller
Giant airport. The incredible number of gates located on 3 floors in the T3 terminal at first visit is simply shocking, but everything is painted on pointers quite clearly and no problems arise. The T2 and T1 terminals are smaller and simpler. Of the drawbacks - there are constant huge queues everywhere, but the staff are struggling with them when successful, and when not very :)) well, and seats would be desirable more, although with such an influx of passengers they will always be lacking - it's China :)) Prices the airport is quite adequate.
