This barnes and noble has changed quite a bit over the years. I have memories of my mother bringing me here as a child to read, and now I do so with friends as an adult. What hasn't changed is the vast amounts of books and interesting things they sell there. There's never been a time where they don't have a book I need. The only thing is that the cafe there can be really crowded at times and it's sometimes difficult to find seats. But overall, I love this place.

One time I was shopping here with my boyfriend and every time I turned around, there was this guy kind of watching me. It went on for about an hour and a half. It got to the point where I was convinced he must be store security watching me to make sure I didn't shoplift the latest Tween paranormal romance or something. As I went to check out, I mentioned to the cashier that they might want their security guard to be a bit more subtle about shadowing customers. She looked confused and told me they didn't have security ahadow customers. I pointed the dude out, and she confirmed that the guy didn't work there. And that's the story about the time I was stalked at Barnes and Noble.

Oh, and they've got a good toy selection, too.

What a nice place to be able to come and kick back--central to so many things going on downtown. With numerous floors full of books and music and toys and all kinds of things to engage what might be going on in and around one's mind at any given moment. It is very, very special to have such a place on the Island of Manhattan--a place where one feels welcome with no hassle to buy anything, move on, or jump through, really, any hoops whatsoever. Please, do stay right here...as so many of our downtown institutions are being rent-jacked right out of existence.

Beautiful book store I love it ! It's s few flours and you have wide selection.
I especially enjoyed the food section.
The nicest thing there is that you a coffee shop inside the store and a bunch to sit and look inside the book what you can do if you buy online.
More than that at the entrance you can see all the discount books !

One of the oldest B&N in Manhattan, it is akin to a flagship store - 5 stories of wonderful books and activities, including children's zone, a cafe, a speaker area (with a variety of authors, from David Sedaris to Mike Tyson), and all across the street from Union Square. You could spend a whole day in here!

The experience of being in this place makes me feel very comfortable. Wish it were a little bit more quite. But you can never take away the experience of touching the books and deciding what to buy. You can spend quality time in their stores.

Terrible "customer service" from an employee named Zereida who was by the "customer service" counter at this Barnes and Noble. She was too busy trying to woo a customer she neglected her job responsibilities and duties and was pitiful in every way. I was expecting to spend a lot but because of her, not only will I not ever spend money in store or online, I will directly go to its competitor efollet etc and close my current account. Hire better employees Barnes and Noble that's if you have the means to do so.

It's a huge Barnes & Noble, yet it's still pretty cozy. It's a lot more crowded than the one I usually go to in Brooklyn, but it's in Union Square so I wouldn't expect any less. The associates are friendly and the bargain bins are huge and everywhere, I have no complaints.

Still the best bricks and mortar book selection in NYC for new books (the Strand is in its own category). Also they manage to maintain a decent music/DVD department, although sadly lacking in classical (like most of the rest of NYC since Tower Records closed).

Classic B & N, am I right?

Classic B & N, am I right?

Great, spacious selection. Standard Starbucks at the top, but sweet location to test a book and chill while at Union Square.
A bit slow to get assistance, but when you do they are very helpful.

Bookstores are a world within words. B&N is great place to find a book. They have books for school, pleasure, travel, romance, maps, and adventure. Take a coffee break sit and stream through the hard covered books to learn. Travel to another dimension via the words of any author. I highly recommend coming here and teaching children that books exist. The staff is terrific and knows their authors and can recommend great books for all ages. Don't forget the monthly children's storyteller and all the activities and visits from authors. I stood in the long line for Pete Townsend's meet and greet. Barnes & Nobles!! Be noble and get a book. ah, they also have a special card %off for teachers and patrons! Use it for books, coffee, and DVDs.

Nice place to escape the summer heat and get some work done. Take note they really run the air conditioning hard on all 4 stories. And be wary of ESL learners unabashedly practicing their verbal skills aloud in the quiet reading section.

It's a Barnes & Noble. A big one. Perhaps the biggest in the city, as they're always throwing special events here, and unlike some others I've been too, it doesnt feel like they've sacrificed space from any section for the sake of any other. I'm especially fond of the lil gacchapon machine they have on the second floor now, as Japanese style vending machines are pretty cool. All in all a fun place I've had some good times at, both by myself and with others. And yes, the bathrooms here are usually pretty clean, so no worries there.

One of the last and best "brick and mortar" bookstores. Just stopped there the other day for the first time in years. There are some things that you can't get online like actually touching and paging through real books. This store also has a coffee shop and clean public toilet-very hard to find in Manhattan.
