I love the books and the music department. Impressive vinyl collection. In heart of bustling Union Square.

The last great u.s. retail book chain. This store has 4 floors of literary diversity.
Met Bill Nye there and the event was very well organized. Although for a small private event, they should allow pictures. They take less than 5 seconds and with the amount of people would only add about 5-10 min to the event.
The bookstore very well, but the ladies room smelled very bad
one of few bookstores that you can sit up in this neighborhood.
This bookstore is pretty huge with four floors of books and some toys. I imagine this has to be one of the biggest bookstores out there. With rents running so high and with Amazon what it is, I hope this store can last for a while.
Very clean and nice ambiance. Has a Starbucks with dining area for purchasing coffee and snack on the 3rd floor
Barnes and Noble in Union Square is the second largest bookstore on the planet. (The first is Powell's in Portland.) The place is huge and encompasses four floors. On the 3rd floor there is a large and very popular Starbucks Coffee shop and al large magazine and travel book section.. The whole 2nd floor is dedicated to children's books and toys. The middle of this floor is usually crowded with toddlers, older children and their parents. Whenever I'm buying gifts for children this is the first place I look. The 4th floor has a large history section, social science and physical science sections and a textbook section. In addition the 4th floor has a large seated section where guest authors talk about their books. The 1st floor has new book sections and music sections. I love this place. (So does practically everyone else in New York.)
It's got a huge selection of books, movies and more.
It's one of the last big bookstores left. It's good as far as Barnes and Nobles go. Bathrooms are pretty bad tho. Staff is helpful.
Located in the Chelsea neighborhood, it is even larger and more complete than the 5th Avenue store.
No place to see the book. Mo seating at coffee shop. Huge line at checkout. In would rather buy from Amazon.
Not only is this one of the few Barnes and Noble locations left in the city, it's one of the most well-stocked. With four floors of books on any subject you can think of, my last visit was for the Cursed Child release party, the events were well planned, the crowd control was top notch and the employees were ridiculously helpful and engaging. There's a reason I used to cut school to sit amongst the bookshelves to read. The store is still an excellent place to visit, whether to buy books, just browse, or attend an event.
tremendous experience immersed in this immense world of literature, plus a place to enroll with 4 floors full of new things I love!
They have everything here. Bathrooms suck, always a super long line for females, and I guess 98% don't know how to pee so they pee on the seat. Overall okay. I usually don't need help from associates. They're always busy talking or don't know where my item is. I can help myself though.
Giant Barnes and Noble but the strand is better for some interests
OK so cool place to look at mags and books and use there bathroom. Not much else to say.
Excellent service and selection, and super helpful and friendly staff.
Amazing store must visit, you can also get some gifts for friends and loved ones
With the Advent of Amazon, it's rare to be able to shop at an actual bookstore. I do and I will continue to do so as it would be so sad if Amazon wiped out the experience of browsing books, flipping through books, story times, lectures by famous writers and supporting retail in general. This Barnes & Noble has fabulous writer talks, an amazing book selection and is a surprisingly great place for kids gifts!
Let's say if anyone happens to be in the city & decides to do any shopping at a Barnes & Noble book store, the one by Union Square would be the spot to go. To me it is.
Wish they didn't do away with the outlets or chairs, but they will happily let you sit on the floor and flip through books you may want to take home with care.
Love Barnes & Noble. Very organized and lovely space.
It was verry nice. The workers were exelent with the kids
A spacious bookstore with massive selections and very helpful staff.
Very large bookstore, lots of choice (but I prefer The Strand)
Love to go l could spend part of my day just looking at books and at starbucks
Spacious and varied inventory of books, book-related merchandise, for all ages. Also has a level for toys and periodicals.
The building is more impressive, than what they're selling.
I normally don't have a problem with this place however on 1-26-19 at 1:12 an older African American women working at the register clearly couldn't do her job. She was very rude to me implying I stole a book which I came to return. Beacuse of her I will not be spending my money there any long
Everything you could want in a book shop. Friendly staff, tons of great books and excellent deals. Always a pleasure to shop here.
Always liked this store, still do. Great place to go and to browse for books, sit down with a cup of coffee or meet a friend and talk. The only downside is if you came to pick up MCAT or GRE or LSAT books they won't let you use them and will make you miserable about standing next to the bookshelf to read it even a little- they are trying to make sure you are buying them. So, medical, law or future graduate students- this is what you will run into. Be warned.
It s pricey but it s great. Its a beautiful store and the costumer service is on point.
As good as a Barnes and Noble gets, beautiful old building and five stories of books. It's no Powell's but what else is?
Stopped in to grab a couple new books to replace the ones lost after we found toxic mold in our old apartment. I love Barnes and Noble.
One of the go to meeting spots in my early days in New York--for coffee and meeting with friends. Bought a cd here in later years, but it was very "security conscious" (if you catch my drift) and off putting.
It s a beautiful location but they ve begun sorting their Blu-Rays in with their DVDs instead of separating them which is nothing short of psychotic behavior so I won t be back
Once again Barnes & Noble comes through with my last minute Christmas Boxed Cards. Their cards were 50% off. I also received a ' coupon for 'buy 1 fresh baked cookie get one free'. Their reeses peanut butter and oatmeal raisin cookies are delicious. I also received another coupon when I purchased my cookies. Thank you Barnes & Noble. Happy Holidays!
Barnes and Noble in Union Square is one of the few large book retailers left in the city, especially after Borders closed down. I love the variety in the store. I just hate that there is not much space to sit and they discourage sitting on the floor. I usually take my books and magazines upstairs to sit in the area where they have the book readings and signings. I noticed that there is not much of a price difference from buying books on the Barnes website vs in-store. So I just skip the shipping fees and head to Union Square.
Books. So inspiring. Staff is helpful. Check prices online their website.
Today I went there to get some books for Christmas gifts. Cashier Lady was so nice at the beginnig but right after I rejected her offer to buy from holiday books for some donation, she gave me a disgusted look and ignored my thank you. It made me feel guilty and ruined my happy morning
Gotta love Barnes and Nobles! When I went to college books were very expensive but this books store actually can help you out with used books for very fair price!
Huge book store with amazing range, always try to pop by when I'm in the city
it was busy on some floors, but the staff was nice and helpful. Will come back for buying gifts.
I like this Barnes and Noble a lot.
First, its one of the book stores that has actually been able to stay alive and its massive.
Second, it is a large store in the middle of a very busy park (Union Square) Park) but still manages to be a quiet and private place for you to get lost in a book.
Third, the store is well organized and the staff is friendly and kind. They do have a lot of different sections and one of the secret gems that is very difficult to find in NYC is a place that will let you use the bathroom. This place has one and its on one of the higher floors but is VERY appreciated.
Employees were very helpful I found my book in 30 sec.
I always find what I am looking for in the one on 17 street in Manhattan and I am a member for 3 years now and.will always make sure I renew my membership cause I do get alot of savings and coupons it worth every penny to me
I'm gonna be honest, it's rare that I ever buy anything here. It's more of a place to hang than anything. It's a great place to grab a cup of coffee and read/write.
I love the atmosphere and find the staff helpful when needed. There are several registers so checkout lines move pretty quick. There are restrooms and of course books of all genres to satisfy everyones reading preferences.
Cavernous book store in one of the best neighborhoods. Multiple floors, coffeeshop inside, and many places to read/study, I highly recommend this place!
Really liked the ease and visibility of all the books and merchandise in this huge store! A great place to look for all my reading and research needs. I highly recommend this store to everyone looking for the best in printed media!
Always been a bibliophile. And new book smell is always nice. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Customer Service is always impeccable.
Big store. If you don't find what you are looking for, you can order the book and have it sent to the store. It is not a library. You can become a member and get all kinds of perks.
