Avalanche Pizza is one of the culinary treasures of Athens,OH - a pizzeria that embraces and cherishes our community and invites fresh, local ingredients into a sometimes familiar favorite/sometimes twisted tango with culinary choreography by renowned Chef John Gutekanst. My son won't eat pizza anywhere else (and there's way more than just pizza). Nor will I. Thanks, John, and the talented staff at our beloved Avalanche! I'd give you more than 5 stars if I could. This one goes to 11.

Called at 9:30pm for a small pizza. Was told 45 to an hour for delivery. Did not receive my pizza to 11:10, an hour and forty minutes after the original order. Pizza was alright but no better then bar pizza. Definitely not worth the hassle

My first pizza from avalanche was a good experience. But yesterday I got 3 10inches combo and it did not meet my expectation. Two of the vegan pizza (with vegan cheese) barely had cheese on them and the pepperoni pizza was kind of blunt, less cheese, uncooked base. (My name in the order: Sunil)
But I will be there again with the expectation of the same taste and quality which I got for the first time.

Avalanche's specialty pizzas are great for vegans and/or people who just want awesome things like artichoke hearts and whole roasted garlic cloves on their pizza. The pizza in general is not my favorite ever, though. It's okay.

I have a medical condition that prohibits me from wearing a mask. I went in to get a two dollar slice of pizza after a long days work and was told I would not be served without a mask. This type of discrimination in the city so focus on inclusiveness and helping those in need is atrocious. I m glad there are plenty of other places I can go find pizza in Athens

One of my favorite pizza places in the entire world.

That's right, the world.

When I was a student at OU, I was an Avalanche frequent and no matter where I go, I don't find a place quite like Avalanche. Their BBQ Chicken is still the best I've ever had.

The rest of it is pretty good, too! If you're looking for unique specialty pies, this is your place. You won't find some of these offerings anywhere else. And if you want a more standard pizza, this is still the best you can find in Athens County. The crust thickness is satisfying without being too much. I like to get extra sauce and the dough holds it well.

The 3-for-1 deal is as good as you'll find anywhere. They're open until 4 on weekends! Living in Houston, I can hardly find a pizza place open that late.

Not too big of a fan of Avalanche. The pizza is sub-par compared to other pizza places in the area. Pizza is okay, just not spectacular. The biggest disappointment was the Super 99 pizza. The pepperonis are so small, that it seemed like a regular pepperoni pizza. And the sauce is too sweet for my liking. However, the bread items that are at the Farmer's Market on East State Street are out of this world!! They are pretty great, I recommend trying the bread!

In honor of National Business week, I want to describe why this is my favorite pizza place that I've ever eaten at, hands down.

Being a college town, Athens, Ohio has its fair share of pizza restaurants, in both big chain and small business varieties. This would usually make it hard to pick a favorite, since you have so many choices. I guarantee, however, that if you're going to like only one pizza place in this town, it's going to be Avalanche. Trust me, my family gets pizza from the place at least once a week.

Avalanche does everything right: the pizza tastes great, the prices are reasonable, the service is good, their baked bread is good, they value the importance of hats, the marketing is amusing and doesn't make you want to die on the inside, and in one of the top corners of the buildings, you can see a tv that shows professional pizza dough spinning. If that doesn't sound like an ideal pizza place to you, then you need to stop being so picky.

Also, they have some silly signs that they put in front of the building that say things like "Joseph Stalin eats corporate chain pizza" and "Genghis Khan rode our Great Steak & Potato Pizza into battle once."

So, that's Avalanche Pizza. It's about as good as an American pizza place can get.

P.S. They've also won numerous awards, judging by that one wall full of plaques that say that they've been awarded for best pizza, so someone must agree with me on this.

I love Avalanche-the quality of the ingredients coupled with the talent of mixing the unusual results in just incredible pizzas. However, I do not give 5 stars in this review because the salt level in the pizzas we had last night was too high. These were for the chicken pizza with kimchi and cashews (can t remember funky name), which was also very soggy; for the Southeast veggie pizza, and for a meat lovers pie (the Nudge.. I think is part of the name). Please lower salt and quality would be better. Some types of cheese have too much salt to start with, hence careful with how much of that goes in.

I have to hand it to em. Avalanche used to be good. I came here as a freshman and immediately fell in love. But the last three times I ve ordered/eaten their pizza, I ve had very subpar experiences, especially given the price. The pizza is seriously slacking on main ingredients leaving it really lackluster. Our last pizza looked like it got run over by a dump truck. At least Domino s paves roads now.

Words can not describe the reality of how awesome this place is. Every pizza I've ever eaten here has been amazing. My favorite recommendations would be the BLT, The k-2 (best supreme style), or the chicken chupacabre. If you have any annoying vegetarian or vegan friends, I suggest ordering "The Nuge"; It comes packed with 8 different meats.

Do not eat mushrooms and park in the front with the big headed politicians. Unless, of course, you want to laugh your ass off.

Locally owned and operated, huge variety of ingredients, lots of signature pizzas available on the menu, the ownership/management are active in the community, lots of deals and specials usually available. The NY style pizza is delicious. Single slices are available for grab 'n go.

Came in to pick up a pizza that was supposed to be ready 40 minutes ago and am still waiting. Hopefully this time they will get the order right. Decent pizza but definitely not worth the hassle.

The worst pizza I've had. The ham was rubbery. Little to no sauce very dry flavorless pizza. And the wings aren't bad if you can get passed the grotesque smell. Do not waste your money here

Avalanche Pizza is incredibly high quality with truly interesting combinations and a funky vibe which really does enhance the experience. People who are not afraid to add humor to the mix are generally ones you wish to interact with! It is a minor point but one that deserves mention since it has happened repeatedly even in the face of specific requests, but don't expect your pizza to actually be cut all the way through the crust! I generally and passing through and get want to go, and have learned to always check the box because it never is cut all the way through, even when I order it and request that that be taken care of. So the product is great but the ability to train Folk to not repeatedly make the same mistake could still be improved on. Don't forget to check because the pizza is irresistible and you will not want to wait before scarfing a slice!

The pizza is one of my favorite in Athens. They use local products and the price is reasonable. But the service is horrible and I am not saying this from one visit. My family has "pizza night" two times a month on Friday's and Avalanche Pizza was the only place that we would go. I no longer go there. The guy (I think he might be the manager) is horrible. He yells when there is a "timed" order and is unable to complete the order on time. Every restaurant in Athens can do it but they can't. After paying and waiting 2 hours for a pizza, I asked for my money back and they wouldn't refund the order. Great pizza but the service has caused them to lost my business. Looks like I'll be getting Goodfellas!

Unfortunately have to agree with the other posters here. Really good pizza. Terrible customer service. Waited over an hour for our pizza on a Monday night. When I called to check the employee I reached wasn't very helpful. It's a good place but they need to work on their customer service and delivery times. We won't be ordering from here again.

Man it's been like 11-12 years since I been to this place, used to live in the area around 2008ish. This was by far, the best pizza around. The 100 pepperoni pizza is what I loved. If I am ever in that area again, I will for sure grab one of those pizzas.

I have been around the world and there was only one other pizza place that I think does better than Avalanche. You can't beat the quality of their pizza or the vast options when it comes to toppings. The only thing I don't like is that there's nowhere to eat it so if you come from out of town you have to pick up your pizza and go find someplace to eat it.
