I would like to thank the owners of your business for their donations. You have been making meals for the elderly and underprivileged in my community for quite some time now. My parents are some of the people you help. I want to thank you for your generosity and compassion for others. We need more people like you in this world. May the lord bless you and your business

I hadn t had Avalanche Pizza since I graduated in 2002. Thought I d give it a try while in town and it s as great as I remembered. You can tell it s freshly made and it warms up in the oven the next day almost as good as when I brought it home.

We love Avalanche Pizza. We drive down once a year to visit with friends from WV, IN, MI, PA and have pizza. Some like trying all the different ones that are offered. Everyone we have suggested they stop while they are at Hocking Hills, have raved about it when they get home.

Not bad pizza. Worth checking out just for the sheer variety of toppings and specialty pizzas they offer. Like kimchee or maybe chicken and waffle pizza. Stop by and check them out. I did and so should you!

What is not to love about Avalanche? They make super fresh, extremely delicious pizzas from a huge list of local, organic ingredients in a variety of styles at an extremely reasonable price. I make sure that all of my out-of-town guests get to try it- and they are all consistently impressed! Avalanche has delivery or pickup, but there is not an eat-in area. They also have sides and calzones in addition to pizza! My top recommendation is the cheese bread. Their pizza is amazing, but the cheese bread is the best we've ever had. If you can splurge a little I'd also suggest getting their NY style pizza. Huge slices with fantastic flavor. Athens is lucky to have Avalanche Pizza!

One of the best pizzerias I've been to out of the 100+ I've tried. The flavor is great and they use mostly local ingredients. The owner is extremely friendly and courteous, making every visit a pleasant experience.

I went into get Chef Salads and the ones we got before we're very good. This time, there was hardly any lettuce in it and a lot of it was the core. The toppings were ok but we like a little lettuce to go with the toppings. I ended up adding some other lettuce I had on hand. Was just a bad experience!!

Pizza itself is decent. Service is garbage.

Pizza itself is decent. Service is garbage.

It isn't uncommon for the pizza to be 30+ minutes late and they give ZERO consideration for the inconvenience. Unbelievable. If they actually had good service it would be a good pizza place.

Took 90minutes to get two blocks and I tried using a coupon listed directly on their website but they couldn't find it on their system or something and tried charging me 5 extra dollars instead of figuring it out which makes me feel ripped off. They told me 45 minutes and I called them after an 70min and instead of being courteous or apologetic the guy was rude. I feel sorry for anyone who orders carryout and has to wait there and deal with these people directly.

Food is great. They try to use mostly local ingredients and their spelt crust is my favorite. Delivery guys gets "lost" almost every time though making the wait closer to 1h45min than the estimated 40 min.

A local suggested we tried this, glad we did. We've ate here several times already. Their toppings are delicious and I actually feel full after eating this pizza unlike with other pizza places. I do wish they had a bit more sauce to them, but I like extra sauce personally. They also didn't cut one of our pizzas completely so it was a bit hard to eat back at the hotel. But whatever, we still ate here again anyway... it's that good.

Edit to add: LOL the owner reply to this. I'm a simple girl, jalapeno poppers are one of my favorites and so many restaurants mess them up! Appreciate the owner response and the food, always!

The best pizza in Athens hands down not to mention their boulders, cheese bread, calzones, jalapeno poppers and other delicious concoctions. This has been my go-to pizza place since moving to Athens and I can't recommend them enough

We ordered 2 pizzas online @ 4:18 today. The confirmation email said 45 minutes. After an hour and fifteen minutes no pizza at the door, so we called into the shop. We spoke with a girl and she said the pizza would be at the house in another 20 minutes. After already waiting for 1:15 for the pizza and now another 20 minutes on top of that....we decided to speak with the manager DAVE. Dave made excuse after excuse blaming the rain. Thats bunk! I was just in town during the worst of it and i was able to drive just fine. So i called him out on it...didnt do any good because he was dead set on this lie. Dave was actually being pretty rude on the phone. He refused to make it right in any way. No discount, no return of the delivery fee, no coupons, NO APOLOGY... nothing! So i hung up on him and at the 1:35 the pizza finally arrived COLD! The driver tried to make me pay for it twice as well. I instructed her to review the receipt calling her a genius. We even tipped her i think it was $5 when we ordered online. And if that isnt enough...... The large pizza she ordered was half tomato and onion and half cheese. The pizza came with VERY LITTLE toppings and was just over 1/4 of the pizza topped. 2 slices shy of being half topped. Did i mention the pizzas were COLD? SH@#$Y SERVICE, long wait times in excess of promised delivery times, rude manager and to be quite honest...the pizza really isnt all that good.

The crust is just meh, the sause is bland and again just meh, cheese is cheese and toppings are meager at best. There really are much much better pizza places but not really in athens, unless you count lotsa pizza.

I recommend staying away from this pizza joint until they get more competent staff. Staff who are willing to right a wrong instead of making LAME excuses. I managed a giovannis for 12 years and if we had done a customer this way we would have righted the wrong right away. Just sayin.....

I'm absolutely astonished that this place continues to operate. The service is beyond terrible; I've gone in an seen employees standing around chatting and ignoring a long line of customers, I've ordered extra cheese and have been given a normal amount of cheese, I've had burned pizzas, I've had late delivery guys, you name something bad and this place has done it. Basically, the guy that runs this place only cares about making fancy pizza for contests, and serves up crap the rest of the time.

Fortunately, there are many better options for pizza in Athens, so it's easy to stay away from Avalanche. Unless you're a student, that is; then you have to deal with it, because it seems like university events ONLY serve this garbage. (PRO TIP: don't eat anything with meat in it if you don't want to have stomach problems for the next 24-72 hours.)

Many of the pizzas taste like the stereotypical owner wrote the recipes but is not the actual cook type of deal. Like adding a bunch of ingredients to a pizza and not understanding why the ingredients flavor profiles work together, ending up with flavorless messes. Even the simple recipes like a pepperoni pizza or bread sticks are lacking and bland, like lacking butter or garlic on the bread sticks or any zing on the pizza. It s on par with Papa John s, and a large portion of the menu feels like a poor imitation of Mod Pizza, where the recipes have likely been through Thorough testing by corporate chefs who know what tastes and what does not.
The pizza here is Little Caesar s but 3x the cost at best. At worse, food for your trashbin.

But the owner says the previously mentioned streamlined brands are bad, then that means your pizza must be really bad if the comparison tastes better yet still isn t good pizza.

I ve never seen a company make not only not good pizza, but bad pizza. Maybe the owner is cutting corners because the virus, but other local businesses still outdo him.

P.S. pay your employees rather than sending a passive aggressive letter on the box. Maybe the pizza would be good then.

Best pizza in Athens. Highly recommend any pizza from here, but personally the pepperoni is my favorite.
The toppings are crisp, but the dough is soft. They also have single slices available, and they have a great 3 pizza deal that we always get as a family.

I'm originally from New York and Avalanche's New York slice is the real deal. Literally the only place in the entire state of Ohio I've found that can make a slice anywhere close to real NY pizza. Not to say there aren't good pizza places in Ohio, but I've found that most Ohio pizza resembles Domino's, Papa John's or DiGiorno.

Not Avalanche! Their other specialty pizzas are delicious too if NY pizza isn't your thing.

Pizza was very good! I ordered my pizza four hours early I knew I was going to have company and wanted to grab and go . I was told it would be about five minutes. Ok five minutes no problem until it turned into twenty minutes.

We had one of their pizzas that had won an award. It was ok I guess but not fantastic. The place is a bit of a hole in the wall. There is parking outside. The guy serving us was ok too but didn't really enter into the spirit of the whole avalanche pizza thing. Probably sick of it I guess. I would buy from them again but I would try a different pizza place first.

Ordered delivery, but they ended up losing my order and it got to be an hour late. I called, didn't even utter one word of complaint and they immediately the comped the food and got it out to me on less than 20 minutes.

Furthermore, best damn pizza I've had in my life.

I'd rate five stars if you could sit down and eat there. Aside from that they make a damn good pizza. Big slices that can be folded and are easy to eat, delicious and totally filling...enjoy!

I'm blown away by the bad reviews. This pizza is the best ever besides Strong's in Newport, Ky. I get it once a week whenever i come to Athens to visit my boyfriend. It's the one thing I'll miss about this place when he graduates! So delicious. (We usually get pepperoni or cheese, nothing fancy).

Great crust; not too thick but not super thin either and it has great flavor in its own. There's a great multiple pizza deal that's good for groups large or small that want a variety of toppings. They have an overwhelming list of specialty pizzas that can honestly be daunting for a first-time customer. Every one of those styles sound incredible and the locals, students and residents alike, love this place.

I want to give you guys five stars. I m a bit confused about NY style pizza. Im a former Brooklynite and when I stopped in to get a slice I got this tiny little thing which was on the normal dough. Not only am I a former Brooklynite I have worked in pizzerias for the last 27 years. That was not a NY slice and it was not worth the $2. A NY slice should be as big as your head and floppy but be crispy on the bottom. My wife and I also loved the Veggie Rainbow until the last time we ordered it, I m guessing someone new made the pizza cuz it just had way too much of every topping, which made it way undercooked and no one checked to see if it needed to be baked more. I don t like criticizing pizzerias because I m a pizza freak. I do it because I see an awesome place that could be even awesomer . You guys do such an awesome job at making people and their tummies very happy!

We don't live anywhere near Athens but whenever we happen to be driving thru we always stop for pizza. Seriously the best pizza place anywhere around. Do yourself the favor and grab some delicious food from here.

Avalanche Pizza has egregious customer service. First off, they offer "New York style" pizza on their menu, but will tell you they don't have time to cook it most of the time if you try to order it (literally tried to order it like 6 times and they've actually made it twice). If something's on your menu, make it!

At 5:53 pm, on a Monday night, I ordered a New York style pizza. I'm assuming it was a slow Monday night because they actually agreed to make the pizza.

At 7:15 pm, close to an hour and half later, the pizza arrived. When I opened the box, it was completely burnt, so burnt in fact, it was charred on the bottom (see attached picture). When I called to complain, the manager/owner checked with his employee, who I could hear say, "I checked it, it was not burnt." I informed the manager his employee was lying. I demanded a cell phone number, so I could personally send the attached picture to the manager.

After receiving the attached picture, the manager agreed the pizza was in fact, burnt, and that his employee had lied. The employee likely would have gotten away with the lie if I had not insisted on sending the picture. The manager apologized and said a new pizza would be sent out immediately.

At 8:15 pm, an hour after complaining about the burnt pizza, I called Avalanche to which the manager promised the pizza was out for delivery.

At 8:45 pm, another half hour and still no pizza. It is more than 2 and half hours after I originally ordered the pizza, again on a Monday night, not even a busy night, and still no pizza. I call the manager, irate at this point, and he said there was a problem with their delivery driver (despite him previously telling me at 8:15 pm it would be at my house any minute). I demand a refund and the manager has the nerve to tell me he'll discount the NEXT pizza I order from there. I didn't ask for a discount on the next pizza, as I won't be ordering from here again, but a refund. When the manager self admittedly called themselves "incompetent" I give up and hang up on them.

At 8:50 pm, the new pizza finally arrives. To add insult to injury, the pizza is almost cold because you can tell it was sitting under the warmer or delivery car for too long. If the pizza is not refunded, I will report it to my credit card company to have the charge reversed.
