In honor of National Business week, I want to describe why this is my favorite pizza place that I've ever eaten at, hands down.

Being a college town, Athens, Ohio has its fair share of pizza restaurants, in both big chain and small business varieties. This would usually make it hard to pick a favorite, since you have so many choices. I guarantee, however, that if you're going to like only one pizza place in this town, it's going to be Avalanche. Trust me, my family gets pizza from the place at least once a week.

Avalanche does everything right: the pizza tastes great, the prices are reasonable, the service is good, their baked bread is good, they value the importance of hats, the marketing is amusing and doesn't make you want to die on the inside, and in one of the top corners of the buildings, you can see a tv that shows professional pizza dough spinning. If that doesn't sound like an ideal pizza place to you, then you need to stop being so picky.

Also, they have some silly signs that they put in front of the building that say things like "Joseph Stalin eats corporate chain pizza" and "Genghis Khan rode our Great Steak & Potato Pizza into battle once."

So, that's Avalanche Pizza. It's about as good as an American pizza place can get.

P.S. They've also won numerous awards, judging by that one wall full of plaques that say that they've been awarded for best pizza, so someone must agree with me on this.
