Interesting I must say. First of alI look like the guy around the block. We have a substantial income being IT professionals now. However, it seems that knowledge is to much power and not respected, in most cases. Prior to looking for any car we want. (not need) I do very extensive homework i.e. internet multiple states and cold calls to dealerships (fleet managers and internet sales).calls are recorded. We where looking for a 2013 Chrysler SRT8 because we where tying to get out of a 2010 we are total upside down on (my spouse car not mine) so a 2014 was out of the question from the start because of invoice and retail markups after much research and number crunching. Gas guzzler tax, luxury tax etc. (Let me add here...nothing ticks me off more then someone tell me in so many words, that retail is invoice Daaaaa. I was a car salesman for 15 years and a auto broker for five and I'm ASE ceritified as a service writer) You tell me that at 2014 SRT8 is $70,000.00; after I have told you pretty much what sticker is on these cars.... its a dam Chrysler not a german build sports sedan. Personally I hate number games if I have told you what I am willing to pay. That's it, tell me yeah or neah and it's that easy for me. I don't get excited buy anything. I know the business better then any average sale person will ever know because I have worked in the back offices buying and selling deals. (I prefer volume dealerships any day of the week.) $66,000.00 for a car that invoices at about $56,289.00. But before I go any further... you don't have the car on the lot nor do you have the color we want so we have to wait until you find and get it for us.(strike 1) number two I tell you my car payment can not be more then $900.00 a month you bring back $1300.00 (strike 2)..... the sales consultant was really nice but the inventory was horrible which was (strike 3). Need I add I never tell anyone what we are putting down cash until we have reach a selling price on the car as if we are paying cash for it. As someone who has worked in auto sales extensively people do your home work From 2013 to 2014 the 300 SRT8 lost a average of $8000.00 (resell value) in value if you are keeping it or selling it, know what you re getting into. Personally, I keep my cars for 10 to 20 years because I enjoy them and they are always dependable. Unlike a lot of people I do not rent cars. I feel it defeats the purpose of me paying a note on something I want to drive. Mileage doesn't hurt cars if maintenance is done properly, dealers have made it seem like it the holy grail of lost.... if you want to trade it. I have two car with well over 200000 miles on them and bought them with 100000 on them both. In closing we found our car last night and bought it at another local dealership it was the 2013 SRT8 as I stated in the beginning, maybe not the color desired but a awesome looking beast.
