Perhaps the worst resort experience I have ever ha...
Perhaps the worst resort experience I have ever had. Sure, the staff was very nice and friendly - but as I suspected... the Disney money vacuum was ever-present throughout our entire trip. I have been visiting Disney resorts since early 2000 s, and let me tell you - back when we first started visiting these Disney properties, the prices were high, but reasonably high. You expect to pay a premium when visiting resorts like Disney, but those premium prices provided a quality product all around. However, during our trip to Disney World in 2012... things changed. Maybe the recession had something to do with it... maybe they needed to address their bottom line... or Disney executives needed to get richer... but from our trip in 2010 to the 2012 trip - prices skyrocketed. Also, their attitude changed from making guests happy to screw the guest . When we were at the magic kingdom, just before the light parade, I went to get some cotton candy for my daughters. After waiting in line for over 20 minutes, I was told they could not make any more cotton candy. WHAT?! Disney can t make any more cotton candy?! This is something that they make on a daily basis and should never run out of!!! My only other alternative was Cracker Jack... and stupid me, I pretty much expected a BOX of Cracker Jack... but well... it s Disney, so I paid $4 for a little package of Cracker Jack - the size that is like the size of the package of peanuts they hand out on airplane fights for free. Anyhow, I sidetracked. Apologies. I don t like complaining and I ve never written a review for anything like this... but for the amount of money that went into this stay... and come to think of it... all the stays we have had at Disney in the past decade... I feel that I should say something so that people will realize just how badly Disney picks your pockets, doesn t care at all about you, and then ships you off, cause there are hundreds of new oblivious people strolling in the door to have all their hard earned money sucked up by the Disney vacuum. Disney does provide a nice, clean and friendly environment... never less than impressive. Rooms are nice, everything seems clean... people are friendly... but I must tell you all... never, NEVER NEVER spend a dime on any food, drink or merchandise that these resorts offer. If something typically costs $5, expect to pay around $25 for it. Their markup is insane. When staying at the Disney Aulani resort in Oahu Hawaii, My wife and I went down to the pool area to have a drink at Off The Hook - which is a cabana type theme... basically an over-glorified and majorly over- priced concession stand. Despite my apprehension to ordering anything from this place, my wife really wanted a Mai-Tai... so this was the place to go on property. The cost per Mai Tai you ask? $15. I expected as much, but I also expected a decent drink for that amount. Take note I said decent . We received 12 ounce plastic cups that looked like Mai-Tais... they had a slice of pineapple and a Hawaiian flower for garnish. Yet... It tasted like bitter, watered down iced tea without any alcohol in it. We were planning to stay for another round or two and have a snack, but after a couple tastes of that Mai-Tai we had to go. We left and took a walk around the property... and I just could not get it out of my head that Disney just ripped us off again!! So when we got back to our room, I called guest services to explain it, but they said they could not do anything about it - REALLY? They said they d have the manager call me back to discuss it. I still have not heard from The Manager . Also, I wanted to hit the hot tub downstairs, but it closes at 8:00pm. So I m paying thousands of dollars to stay here and you close the pool at 8?! 8 o clock?! THIS ISN T A BEST WESTERN!!! Yet the money vacuum sucks... and this will be my absolute last time at any Disney resort... and if you haven t been at a Disney resort yet - do not make it your first.
