One of the best places to visit in Auckland.
Quite big in size and versatile animal collection.
While walking across, you can easily figure out how well the animals are treated in the zoo to make them feel like being in their natural spots.
Lot of interactive ways are provided to get closer to animals safely.
Had opportunity to see some of the rare species.
Friendly staff.
Enjoyed the visit.

This is a brilliant zoo to visit. They use a portion of your ticket to help contribute to conservation projects, and are generally very active in NZ conservation. They care incredibly well for their animals and are always sure to enrich their captive lives. The education on issues like palm-oil, and about the animals themselves can be found in entertaining, digestible displays near enclosures. Facilities and infrastructure are high quality, with interesting art displays and habitats scattered around.

The variety of animals is great- they have everything from NZ natives like longfin eels, kokopu, kakariki, kaka, kea, giant weta and kiwi all the way to sumatran tigers, indian elephants, capybaras, nyalas and squirrel monkeys- there's something for everyone. It's very affordable and a great activity for families.

Many varieties of beverage and food are provided all around the zoo, with free water fountains and large, clean toilet facilities. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Free use of wheelchairs are provided, and all of the zoo is wheelchair accessible.

You can even come in at certain times to see the veterinarians conduct check-ups on their animals in a non-invasive manner. Their focus on education and awareness is seriously commendable.

Overall, I'd highly reccomend this place!

Go early in the morning if you want to see the animals out and about. There are still a few exhibits that are being enhanced but over all the zoo is very well thought out to enhance our interaction with the animals. The animals are healthy and alot of care thought has been given by zoo staff to improve life of the animals.

Cool place. Lots of quirky little bits & pieces around the Zoo, some around others in animal enclosures to add some substance to the enclosure. Some building work currently going on but I'm sure it will be sweet when complete

No matter how old I get, I'll always appreciate my time at Auckland Zoo. One of the best Zoos in the world. Lots of love and care is put into the animals here. They have so much space and are obviously well looked after, which is something you don't see in some countries.

Well kept Facilities, with a great range of animals to view. The keepers are really knowledgeable and there are regular talks throughout the day. The Zoo itself is easy to walk around. There is plenty of parking, even when there are late night events, with overflow parking located nearby. A great day out for the whole family.

It is really easy to get around the zoo with a buggy as there isn't many steep inclines to overcome. We were fortunate to come on a pretty clement day, not too hot for the family but sunny enough and since it was a Tuesday, we had no issue with navigating any large group of people.

The food available at the cafes was pretty reasonable also.

Not for profit zoo, well kept, friendly staff, fun enclosures.

Took a star off because some of the enclosures seem small for the bigger animals, and there's currently a lot of renovation/expansion.

Came to New Zealand for vacation. Near the end of our vacation, we decided to visit the zoo and it was a good idea! Took about 2-3 hours to view everything. Finally saw a Kiwi bird, not one but two! The zoo have a nice layout. There was some animals that wasn t on site but it was fine. It was a great day at the zoo. We had lots of fun.

Lovely zoo, just the right size. I love the winding nature of the path through different parts of the world, to the different exhibits. The animals seem happy.

They are currently (March 2020) in the process of building a climate controlled dome of sorts. As an avid coffee drinker, I appreciate the cafes sprinkled throughout, as well as the fact they do not use throwaway cups - you can bring your own or pay a $3 deposit for a metal cup. (You get your deposit back when you turn your cup in.)

The first overseas trip I made 24 years ago was New Zealand.

I also saw kiwi.
X-ray images of kiwi are on display
I was amazed at the size of the egg that occupies 70% of the body

The display method was different from Japan, and it was a structure that you can meet animals naturally when walking.

However, it was New Zealand on my first overseas trip in Auckland and Rotorua.
This zoo is the most impressive one.

I bought a map and rented a car. I went to this zoo.
It was the second half of February, but the weather was nice and I still had a pleasant impression.

We loved the place! Firstly the animals have space they are not enclosed and they get treated well. Also the separation to continents is great and very cool for kids. Generally kids get to walk around and take it all in. It's a must for every family even on a short visit.

I took my boys to this place and they had a jolly time. The pricing is reasonable and very affordable considering that it is a whole day trip for me and my family. I find the layout of the zoo very ergonomic especially due to the fact that the continent animals are segregated from other continents to allude to the fact that life for the zoo creatures is quite proportional to that of them if they lived in the wild. Great staff, great volunteers and the best animals you'll find (so friendly)

Here's a snapshot of the boys getting a little close for comfort

Love the new updated enclosures for the Monkeys!! Cant wait to see the tigers one done!! We have friends of the zoo passes but attended a birthday party yesterday (the first one ive been to since I had my kids 3rd birthday there 13 years ago) and I love the new location, made it great so that we could have fun even in the rain!! The face painter was AMAZING! So friendly, great to talk to and she even painted my face lol I heard the partys might be closing in December for a bit... hopefully not too long because Id love to have my nephews birthday there next year!! Would be awesome if you had a spot with some more resilient animals that could be included in the birthday area for the kids to see and learn about, even interactive learning activities or boards like the walkway where youre building the new enclosures (if youre changing things up, animal safety first of course) (maybe you could reuse the boards after constructions finished hehe)

Like many zoos, your experience of Auckland Zoo will depend on the day - and the hotter it is the less animals you will see. In general, the enclosures are nice and the animals seem well looked after.

Lovely place Indeed, easy access via Uber if you go there by yourself. Not heavy on the wallet from central.
The mini Penguins (insert name) is all rescue and I suggest you go by during feeding to get the full information regarding them from the keeper.

You will not regret it there are so many different types of Animals from Africa to Australia it was my first time at Auckland Zoo And it was amazing me and my fiance had the best time and can't wait for the new exhibit that they are going to open we will definitely go again

We were given the impression that this was a small zoo so don't expect too much but we had a great time. The animal enclosures are quite spacious and the animals all looked well cared for. There are lots of places to view each enclosure from and the grounds are full of trees/plants giving it a lush feeling. They have a good variety of animals and the displays of NZ highlands and wetlands were particularly good, especially if you,re only in Auckland for a quick visit.

Due to on going work building new viewing areas the animals my lad and I came up from the Waikato to experience were not available to us,other than that we enjoyed our day. Marvellous staff, informative ,friendly and welcoming and it seems happy to be doing what they were doing.
