Animals all hidden away from the sun! Ice cream shop shut 1&1/2 hours before closing. Elephants in locked enclosure before 5pm and couldnt find the Tarantulas. Photos tooo expensive. Cost so much for a family of 5 to see so little in the summer holidays.

Whenever you know a new city, worth going to the zoo is a walk and at the same time you have notion of the care you have with animals.
Many works in progress, I believe will please visitors.

Very large collection of animals to see and things to do. Staff are friendly and give great introductions to the animals. There is a playground for kids with a big slide and a Dragon for kids to climb. This is one of the great places in Auckland for family with children. Highly recommended.

Very fun and engaging day out, the zoo offers show and tells with the animals to give not only a visual experience but also one where you feel engaged and informed. Perfect for that Sunday arvo with the kids or family

This is a good zoo, though not very big, but can be around for a long time. But when we go to the park and garden in decorating a gorilla, saw pictures of their future, are looking forward to it. In the zoo there are many volunteers, they help us introduce animals, this is a very good behavior, can help us better understand the zoo.

I really enjoyed our outing to the zoo. A lot hasn't changed in the last 20 years but then again a lot has changed so it's good to see the modernisation of the zoo with some of the original nostalgic feel of the place. My daughter was a bit too young for the zoo at the time to really comprehend what the experience was but now shes older she loves the animals.

As regular Auckland Zoo visitors we were disappointed in our visit on Jan 20. We paid $62 for 2 seniors + 8 yr old grandchild. We knew there were no hippos, and no orang-utans, but there appeared to be no sealions. The cheetah enclosure was empty, (and we later saw one one in the tiger enclosure). The old tiger enclosure appeared to be empty. There appeared to be only 2 female lions, and we caught a glimpse of 1 rhino somewhere in the far corner of it's enclosure. It generally felt a bit run-down compared to previous times.

We've been to bigger zoos across the world, this one packs a mighty punch in a relatively small area... The way they have themed each area, really bringing in parts of Africa into the enclosed areas and the walkways makes it a great adventure for all. Highly recommended!

Great experience and pleased to see lots of redevelopment and planting taking place. It could do with more cold food options available though as it was so hot didn't want hot chips and burgers for lunch!

Excellent. Took the family here for a wee getaway. Picked the kid up form school as a little surprise for his 6th birthday. The experience was amazing, and I highly recommend it to anyway. However, we had an issue with the rhinoceros cage. My son was obviously getting bored of the zoo, which I do not blame him you cant appreciate birds at such a young age. So me and the wife decided to throw him in for a little bit of a rush. The zookeeper was SCREAMING at us it was so funny :) Then he slammed an alarm resulting in the ENTIRE people at the zoo to go CRAZY!!!!! there were people running EVERYWHERE and some little torublemakers opened up the cages for all the dangerous animals!!! Unfortunately, my son did die so its a 2 star from me

Love taking the family here. Relaxed environment and many volunteers and staff who are willing to chat and explain. The restaurant / cafe is a bit on the expensive side but I hope that the extra money benefits the zoo. We get to see (or maybe just notice) more every time we go.

The Auckland Zoo is always a fantastic place to visit There is a lot under construction at the moment, so we're looking forward to seeing the new enclosures when they're complete Both of my boys said they had a brilliant day We were there on a school trip & the extra information we got from Zoo staff & our mini tours was a real bonus! Great fun for all ages, plenty of pram access and facilities scattered around the zoo. Even with the current building work the experience for families is well organised. Well worth the annual pass for entertaining my toddler throughout the year.

great ZOO, perfect for a day out during a sunny day. lots of interesting animals that looked well taken care of. some of them were sleepy and did not get the chance to see them - maybe next time :)

Amazing experience, went while the bug lab was on and it definitely was worth it! Unfortunately there is only index tiger and no hippos currently, how've the new lion are so cool and especially the cheetahs. Our tour guide Sarah was also very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about everything she talked about. Would highly recommend the zoo as everything is being maintained and worked on, definitely worth going to!

One of the best Zoo's you can visit! Awesome enclosures, with good animal interaction. Constantly changing and evolving. New enclosures and upgrades always are world class! Great staff and lots of passionate volunteers!

Very good customer service from most of the team. Found the elephant resturaunt was abit pricey for what you get. And the hot chips looked and tasted double fried??? That old and soft texture and dark brown like its been cooked in old oil or left out for 20+ minutes? not the best. However we had a good time. My favourite part of the zoo was the dark starry room where the kiwis are.

My family and I bought annual passes here at the beginning of the year, extremely good value. We have visited now so far in excess of ten times. Everytime we visit we spot more and more, my daughter loves coming here. Looking forward to the new area opening up, lots of fun to be had in a nice safe clean environment. Friendly and helpful staff are very knowledgeable with regards to the animals.

I purchased a annual family pass for $165. There is a lot of construction going on at the moment and some of the larger animals have been farmed out to other zoos but it's still a great place to take the kids. You see something different every time. With an annual pass you can go for 30mins and leave and it doesn't matter. Been about 20 times in the last 6 months. Highly recommended.
