Great location for the kids, with multiple areas covering African animals, New Zealand natives, a kiwi house, a children's centre and playground, and multiple cafes (both inside and outside the zoo). If you're keen for ice-cream, you can buy many flavours by the scoop at the stand in the zoo. A great focus of sustainability and education for the kids.

We find not many animals are easy to see. The Asian area is being renovated so had to go a long way to get to some areas - price was reduced because of this so pretty fair. There are a lot of people and parking in second carpark up road was also pretty full. Hamilton zoo is much better and easier to see animals.

I was mainly visiting Auckland Zoo because I didn't want to leave New Zealand without having seen a real Kiwi. However the terrarium where they are supposed to be is that dark that you would need a night vision device for finding any Animals there. Even if they don't really have Kiwis probably nobody would notice.
The rest of the zoo is nothing special. You can see lots of animals there like in every other one. The only thing of interest were the Orangutans who just had their fun together.

Fantastic! Definitely a highlight place to visit ! With new and improved structures going up all the time, so never a dull moment and great places everywhere where you can pop down and enjoy the nature and the animals in the surrounding.

We did the red panda experience. The woman who took us was very enthusiastic and full of knowledge, she was a pleasure to have as a guide! The rest of the zoo is tidy, and the enclosures see clean and spacious. It's just a shame we didn't have more time to look around.

I ADORE Auckland zoo. I am of course a member and I go often by myself. When my nieces are in town we have a blast. I find spending time with Elvis and Matilda very restful. I adore Burma and Angelee and love talking to them. Burma has been at that zoo since I was 3 and as long as I can remember. I practice mindfulness with the alligators and down on lizard lane. Distract myself from life s problems watching the sweet meerkats stand there guard. And get mesmerised by the fabulous seals. Everyone that works and volunteers at the Zoo genuinely care about the animals. I love that the renovations are all about what s best for the animals. Truly we are so blessed to have such rich beauty at our door. Thank you all who make that place a wonderful treasure of Auckland. I m so proud.

A wonderful, compact and beautifully kept zoo where the animals are very well taken care of. We love learning about the native NZ wildlife there especially.

Amazing place to spend a day. Animals looked very happy and well looked after too. Very excited to see the new parts building up which will even open more space for animals and bring more people in to enjoy the zoo. I have to say the volunteers were doing fantastic job giving info on directions and about animals. Great place will be back again for sure.

Always a nice day out. It's worth getting a membership for families, especially because then you don't feel like you have to see everything at once. The cafes are not bad, though still a little pricey considering the entry fee already paid.

Amazing place to visit with family and kids. Very well maintained, clean and beautiful. Lots of animals and birds. It has two cafes, and their menu are not surprisingly expensive. Kids love it here, so I'd recommend to purchase annual pass

Had not been there since 1986, wow what fantastic improvements since then, no more sad sights like the poor old polar bear pacing up and down, happier looking animals with interactive things to do. A big thank you to all of the amazing staff who go out of their way to make our zoo world class.

Although under construction, loads of animals out & about on the zoo late night's $15 per person from 4pm to 8 pm. The animal keepers are around & more than happy to answer any questions that you may have its extremely informative.
Highly recommended.

We are annual pass holders and visit the zoo all the time. However with the massive upgrade works currently happening, it has dampened the experience somewhat. Can't wait for the upgrade to be completed!
