Great day out with the kids, animals aren't always out but there's plenty to see
Such a fun day! We were lucky enough for the weather to clear up on our last day in NZ so we could go to the zoo! Definately reccommended! We got up close and personal with so many animals, and were lucky enough that the tasmanian devil came out of hiding for us! Awesome day, and I highly reccommend finishing your day off at Western Springs, right next door, with a bag of bird seed! The geese and swans will eat right out of your hands! Just watch your fingers.
Haven t visited in a long time and was massively impressed. Look forward to coming back to see the new areas now open
Awesome place! Loads of animals to see, learn about, etc. Quite large aswell expect to spend a whole day here.
This is an excellent place to take the family for a day. Easy walking and lots of places for a picnic lunch.
Great place, child friendly, too bad about storm damage.
Lots of renovations on at the moment but was still enjoyed by all the kids
Fantastic place for the family or for anyone interested in having a look. Easy walking, good pushchair access, different food options with reasonable prices. Restrooms are plentiful and clean, change tables are available. Entry prices are very reasonable, pre purchase online for lower prices or get an annual pass it you will be a regular visitor.
My girls had so much fun here. We miss the orang utan, can't wait till it finished.
Excellent circulation and landscape planning, it is a very successful zoo design.
This is a nice zoo, there is considerable construction going on and when it's done it will be an amazing place to visit. As it was Jan 2020, it was good, we finally go to see a kiwi bird which was cool. Even though parking was tricky - you didn't see the sign that the parking was full until you were in the carpark! The large number of people visiting certainly didn't make the zoo feel cramped. It's worth a visit if you're in Auckland... And you can get there by tram!
It is very nice to be able to see the famous kiwi, also a symbol of the nation, you need to have just a little patience in waiting for its fleeting appearance.
The remaining space in the zoo is also always very interesting
It's an average zoo, but the most important thing is that they have the kiwi birds! So if you're thinking of seeing the kiwi bird in NZ, this zoo is one of the cheapest options. The other kiwi sanctuaries around NZ cost about $50, while this zoo is just $28 and you can see other interesting animals, too. For example, the elephant show is great!
Is a great day out! Got a yearly pass it's that good! Take your own food as the on site food and drinks are ridiculous in price. But the zoo itself is awesome.
Absolutely beautiful. Take your time, there is a lot to see.
Amazing day, real improvement happening, animals look so well loved.
Having lots of different sorts of animals expecially NZ special ones. A good place of education.
Auckland zoo is a great place for those, who loves nature. This zoo cares about animals and try to protect them and provide favourable environment for their breeding and further survival of the species. Love it!
Kid got stuck in a pipe slide took two adults to get her out, but got to ride a pipe slide
Well done, reproduced natural habitats for all animals, very kid-friendly with special facilities and playgrounds. All of it well kept.
Tickets are expensive. Once a year is ok for family day.
Great zoo! 1/3 of the zoo is currently under construction for new habitats & prices are reduced :) Our kids love it, check their website for animal feeding times.. oh and turn early for a good car park!
Came on a Saturday when animals were going through training. Was very entertaining and we'll kept facility despite the construction. Friendly wonderful staff. Would definitely visit again.
Great place to enjoy a family day out if you have young ones. We visit regularly with the kids and always have a great time
Worst zoo ever, not enough animals, but they will charge you full money, dont even tell anyone that few parts are closed, all i have seen is a lion and rino and some birds, where are your animals
Had a great time. A wide variety of animals. Friendly staff. Would love to come again
Lovely setting inthe heart of Auckland. I did expect more animals. Would like to see the new Orangutan enclosure. The Africa part was n bit dissapointing. I think it gives people a wrong impression of Africa. More grass and trees would be a good adition to this enclosure.
We visited Auckland for a few days and one of our goals was to visit the zoo. Auckland Zoo was well worth the trip. It is well maintained, has a good layout and a nice selection of animals that the children really enjoyed. In particular, the Galapagos Tortoises and South American parrots were excellent. The children also really enjoyed the African animals, and the elephants were a big hit. The New Zealand section is also well worth the time, as you get to see some of those harder to see birds and lizards you wouldn't normally see. We visited when the elephant show was on and the children were captivated. We spent 3 hours at the zoo, and saw mostly everything. Make sure you bring a hat on sunny days!
Got there at 430pm after motat told couldnt go in although closing time is 530pm
Good variations of animals. Right now Southeast Asia section is under renovation
Unusual zoo with its beautiful flora. More like a park with animals. Animals here are very fortunate. They have large enclosures. Walk fast and most likely you will miss them due to their large enclosures and many hiding spots. Hang around a while and suddenly u may see an animal. The animals here look beautiful and so well taken care of. Cheetahs and pigs go for walks around the zoo. The volunteers are super nice, helpful and informative. I couldnt give 5 stars because it rained that day and ruined part of my experience. I managed to see the kiwibird it its spacious enclosure. That made my day and those beautiful cheetahs!
The place is beautifull but they don't have some animals like lions and leopard .
We had a wonderful day here. There has been a lot of thought put into the layout and enclosures. There are many shady spots to rest on a hot summers day like ours. One of the best zoos we've been to.
Lovely spot we'll set out and good animal friendly enclosures
Lovely zoo to visit. The improved Australian section is great.
Most of The animals have great spaces. You can feel the passion the zoo staff who care for the animals. A zoo with a positive ++ vibe. If you like zoos you will love this place.
Amazing experience :) my little daughter loves it.. We spent a whole day with the lions, tigers, elephants..
Beautiful and organized. In the period that I made the visit, the central part of the Zoo was under construction, which was a bit of a mess. Animals are closer to people, unlike some others. Most familiar ride.
Always great fun. But at the moment have a lot of construction going on. Aome of the animals may not be available
But always alot to do and see.
I purchased a years pass to take my 2yr old boy and we have gotten our moneys worth out of it and it is also very safe for kids he just runs around freely.
Animals are well cared for, but the water is dirty.
25minutes at information for a pre-booked wheelchair. Ridiculous service times
Nice zoo, clean and tidy. Unfortunately they are upgrading alot of the enclosures so animals are limited at the moment
Good site for animals (note that on very hot days, some of the main attractions are kept inside and out of public site for the animals comfort though). But the floor and beverage selection is quite limited and overpriced.
Under renovation for the last 6 months and still 18 to go,not cool to leave us buying year pass before the work starts
Thank goodness there entrance tickets have been discount while they build a new exhibit. Worth going with very young children.
Awesome place to go with the kids, will be great once the renovations are finished.
Under construction and easy to get lost at the moment but looking very exciting
Auckland Zoo has a good range of both New Zealand species, and those from around the world. At times throughout the day you can see the keepers feeding certain animals (Tigers, Kiwis, etc.).
Spent three hours wandering around. Whilst it was an extremely hot day, most animals were still out and about (including the Tasmanian Devil!) however as with all animals they might not play ball.
Parking can sometimes be quite busy.
Icecreams from near the Rotunda are a great size!
Food and Drink is higher priced as at all touristy destinations.
Could be better. When it first opened had great kai but now the menu is similar to everywhere else. Good live music and beer garden is sunny, though not really a garden. Pizza is not good. Bought bases, but worse... the cheese smells like chemicals. How can the chef not smell that?! Where do you even get cheese that smells like that in New Zealand?
Love visiting, however huge construction works at the moment so check the website. Bathrooms and cafes are very average, BYO food is my recommendation.
Many animals not available to view. Waste of time and money.
Got a zoo pass. Been heaps of times and still a great day out. Staff are friendly and knowledgable. Always improving environment for the animals. Would highly recommend.
Always a great family day out at the zoo. Get an annual pass and visit often.
