Great facilities, well cared for animals, but lots of development going on at the moment. When completed Im sure it will be amazing, but currenly all the construction does detract a little bit. Still worth a visit, but some exhibits are shut down while they work.

Took my neice for her 1st Birthday. She enjoyed the Meerkats and the turtles and fish in the aquarium. But she had more fun looking and feeling all the different foliages and trees and shrubs that were around. I gotta say, i am impressed with the number of water fountains that are scattered around the Zoo. I can't wait to see it when it is done... ill wait eagerly and hope to bring her back when she it older...

The Auckland Zoo has a great section for New Zealand wildlife. I found the large open air mesh-covered NZ "cage" (it was more like a small forest). This is were I met one of the zoo keepers feeding the birds, she was very nice and a great guide to all of the different kinda of birds. The parrots would pose on the rails making really easy to take photos. The kiwi bird exhibit is great but it is hard to take photos because its pretty dark. The rest of the zoo was pretty standard. The cafe at the zoo was a bit crowded but the setting was really nice and the food was great. All in all I would highly recommend the zoo as family day trip or as a chance for a tourist to see some of the native animals they missed on their trip.

The best zoo I ve ever seen!! Clean, animals are kept very well, there are glasses for the barriers so you can admire very well all the animals and make nice pics! Loved kiwis and Japanese panda! I suggest you to go during feeding time!

For all I can say it's completely Worth a visit! Very touristy but very much recommended. We got tickets at student discount i.e.$19 but regular is $24 I believe. The animals are taken care of and the place is clean, tidy and perfectly what a zoo should look like.

Downside, there were a few animals n insects we did not get to see for e.g. The Tarantula but everything else covers up for that. Good show and we'll maintained. #nzmustdo

Went back to the zoo for the first time in about 20 years! It's as good as I can remember. You may not get to see everything due to the fact there are some large enclosures and animals may be at the back. But it's great for them! The zoo staff are knowledgeable and provide great talks about the animals, we saw the ones about several animals (they are well spaced and logical so you can flow from one to another). Hopefully it won't be another 20 years till I visit again. Cost of entry is very reasonable to maintain zoo and put funding into international conservation.

Such a fantastic zoo, we are so lucky to have such an amazing place in NZ!! Definitely need a full day here as there is so much to see, do and listen to. Zoo could benefit from some signage but I know it is going through renovations so perhaps they are coming? I will definitely be back!

We had a great day out at the Auckland zoo. Auckland zoo is great to take kids to, there are lots of different animals for them to see and activities to do on the way. The facilities here are great and plenty of them. You can get a decent coffee in several locations and there are several food options including a restaurant.

The zoo takes great care of the animals and the enclosures are world class. Highly recommended for a day out with the family.

Some people hate zoos for what they are but all.in all it remains a great place to take kids and have them witness live animals they would never see anywhere.
The zoo isn't too expensive and they offer an annual pass if you think you might return multiple times.
Its always clean and do put some emphasis on treating the animals respectfully.

It's a bit disappointing, the zoo is pretty small and it gives me a feeling that are using the animal to make money, instead of educating the public or helping the rescued or helping to preserve the species. Hope this is just my misunderstanding only

Usually quite crowded. Parking is difficult .. there is additional parking across the road which helps. Decent zoo, well maintained. Good for a day out. Good for kids. Nice place to take photos

These stars are for the 'Stars' of the Zoo - the wild life. It has been such a long time since I visited the Auckland Zoo so I was very excited to be there. It was great to see so many families there as it is a wonderful place to enjoy and learn together. CertainIy in order to make it bigger and better for the visiting public, there has to be some 'pain' as renovations impact large parts of the campus. But careful planning should minimize the confusion and disruption to the experience. We endeavoured to find our way around using a map drawn by someone as geographically challenged as we were in our attempts to navigate each 'country'. To find a specific location, however, was impossible and it would have been better not to have even bothered with the map at all. I trust that when all the new enclosures are finished, it will be an amazing place. We would love to have dined at the Old Elephant House, but no matter which way we turned, or which helpful employee or volunteer we asked, we were destined never to find it. If you are considering a visit, wait until they sort out how to draw a map - unless you don't mind constantly retracing your tracks.

Auckland Zoo is such a great place to hang out. We love the african section, tigers, cheetahs, meerkat tunnel and peeking for kiwi birds. Austratian section has very nice birds. We literally hang out for the whole day.

I came here as a teacher on a school camp. Now from my understanding they do not host these camps anymore at the old elephant house but it was amazing. Staying there overnight and then doing a night tour of the zoo was spectacular. The zoo itself is a fun place to be, there are lots of animals and it looks like a fun place not only for children but adults as well. If you Auckland Zoo does host children's school camps this is an awesome place to go for an overnight camp.
