Lots of beautiful animals in large and well thought out enclosures. Not too crowded which is great. Way more variation than I thought. Plenty of places to sit and relax.
You can see many animals there!
It s hard to find red panda tho...
Amazing! Great variety of living beings can be seen here ranging from tall giraffes to camouflaged butterflies. This place is awesome
What a seriously awesome experience. Yes there are renovations being done all over the zoo grounds, but will make for an even bigger and better experience for all.
Experiences from enclosed birds, lizards, owls, parrots, giraffes and zebras, bunny's, spider monkeys and their very busy babies, different buck species, red pandas, different species of monkeys, rhino and the Two Young Girls that totally stole the show - were the Elephants. They kept us fully entertained for almost an hour and then the playing in their pool with the huge plastic "buoys", being hosed down by the keepers and the playing in and around the enclosure. Lifting logs, having siestas and then the long "conversation" they were having and the ongoing trumpeting.
When the changes have been completed, we will definitely be looking at getting an annual pass to go visit on a more regular basis. Of the funds raised is not only used for the upkeep of the premises, animals, but the environment surrounding everything there. When you are there during the feeding times and information sessions about the animals, it makes for an even better experience. Great and friendly staff.
Inside there are different locations where you can get food, Icecream and drinks to buy and play areas for the young ones at heart.
Saw the most birds ever in the aviary, it was feeding time. I have taken some pretty good picture's of birds there.
Animals look well looked after, staff seem to care
Very busy on weekends difficult to find parking. On weekdays they reduced operating hours closing at 4.30 pm. Waste of our annual pass. It should be at least open till 6 pm so school children can come after school finishes at 3.30.
Amazing!! You can really see the animals are happy and comfortable in their habitats. Some areas are so open that the animals can interact freely with humans if they wanted. I really recommend going to the talks that happen during the day, informative and you get to see them in action because they feed them also during the talks.
Take time to go here, preferably the whole day because there's a lot to see.
For kiwis look worthwhile in any case. I liked the Kea enclosure the most.
Beautiful zoo, various different animals and very informative. Love the concept of keeping similar animals together. Also it's clean and organized. Simply love it
Good place but not enough parking, when visited struggled to find parking spot.
Each visit gets better and better. Can't wait for Spring 2020 - the South Eastern exhibits featuring the Tigers and Orangutans are gonna look awesome
Love taking my grandson he loves the zoo. Very impressed with the annual pass
Great experience! Organization, cleanliness and excellent structure!
Always something new to learn and find here, especially about conservation efforts
Had a fantastic day , plenty of entertainment from the elephants & monkeys
Great adventure for the kids and adults. Strollers on hire as well for babies. Plenty in the cafes and a play area for kiddies.
Noisy with work going on at the moment but I'm sure it will be worth it.
Clean and well managed. Will definitely do a return visit.
Good! But the tickets were too expensive because few animals were not there to see such as tigers and apes which were moved to Christchurch because of refurbishement.
This is a great zoo with multiple in person animal experiences. I've been to this zoo many times.
We've got yearly passes and we love it here. Can't wait for the new attractions to be open!
From Japan:)
There are many lovely animals in the huge zoo. I strongly recommend to choose sunny day to visit there. When we went there it was raining in the morning, and there are no animals outside.... In the afternoon, we could see animals moving around as sun luckily came back.
My teacher told me when is the best time to see kiwis, and it seems to be afternoon. In the morning, they sleep and not move around. I could see living kiwis for the first time ever, but they were really cute!!
What can i say it a zoo good place for a day out with the kids
Amazing zoo experience but small compared to most zoos in the US. The plus side to a smaller zoo is that it was easy to walk around and there were not that many people. There are SO many amazing species of birds here. The food was even decent but traveler beware, they do not have water in bottles. They have water fountains throughout that you can use a refillable bottle at.
Been a while. We all enjoyed the day. Lots of work going on so will be even better.
fantastic. a place for kids as well as adults. takes about 3~4 hours to look around. its more like a well designed park than a typical zoo. i was impressed by artistic touch and natural design.
book advance online and get a discount!
I didn't go to the zoo, I actually went to the "BUG LAB" exhibition. I was deeply disappointed. That was no actual live bugs. It was more like a bug Museum or some sort of display of a documentary you would see on TV. the only reason that I gave them two stars instead of one is because after I complained they gave me a refund. Do not go if you are expecting to see real insects/spiders/creepy crawly stuff.
The bug lab is abosultley fabulous for all kids especially under 5s.
They are doing lots of renovations. There aren't as many animals as there used to be and most exhibits make it impossible to see the animals, as they hide behind the mounds.
Went around with the kids for 3 hours saw a handful of animals....
Awesome!!! The zoo is very good dor kids and adults, the animals are beautiful and well treated.
This is a great zoo that gives back to the animal world
Great place as always. We normally go once a year and it doesn't disappoint. Even with the current renovations the zoo is still a good day out.
They've changed their takeaway cup to reusable cup which was understandable. However, when I've ordered coffee at ELEPHANT HOUSE and when I took lid off to drink coffee and realised there were lots of white dust inside of the lid. I've told one of the staff to give feedback(I didn't ask for coffee to be remade or anything like that) but he just stares at the lid with no explanation so I thought he couldn't see it so I've put the lid closer to him and then he saids "I can see them you don't have to shove it in to my face" ?????? And he said it is from the drying cotton they've used. And I've told him "well it is still dirty? Cause it still has stuff on it?" And he just ignores. What an attitude!!:(
I feel sorry for people who will be drinking their coffee with all that unhygienic stuff in it. Very unprofessional and don't feel like they care!!
It was good but not great ,not the best zoo that I have been to
Price quite high for family pass at $65 No notice that some animals were not on display...but you get pretty close to most animals work in progress to improve zoo..definitely worth a visit
Everything was going well until it happened. I dropped my goody goody gumdrops ice cream into the giraffe habitat. I immediately burst out crying. A zookeeper came up to me and told me it would be ok. They said I could feed the giraffes and it would make me feel better. They also bought me another ice cream. While feeding the giraffe it snatched the ice cream out of my hand. I jumped onto the giraffes neck and attempted to strangle it. It ran through the habitat and chucked me so high into the air I thought I could touch the clouds. Fortunately I landed in a pool of water. The end.
The pidgeon on the walkway was eating mango ... really, it should only be natural fruit. This one looked more majestic.
Missed the tiger after repeated cage visits, could you lock it out for a couple of hours a day? I suppose it slept all day.
We enjoyed all of the visit and look forward to coming again once the new area is completed
Loved the new NZ flora and fauna section! The garden/ trees walk bit was really beautiful. Can t wait to go back when the Reno s are done
The kids love going to the Zoo and its not half bad for the adults too
Cheaper and better then Willow bank and Orana Park in Christchurch so that's a bonus
World class zoo, animals in habitats that seem natural and set to improve when the new 'under construction' area is opened.
The most beautiful park which I have seen here in Auckland so far!
Unfortunately, not really much animals
I like that the zoo is getting more natural with all the bush and plants.. the upgrade will be good 9nce it's all complete. And the Lions were amazing the came right up to the glass and looked you in the eye. Beautiful
Fantastic place well worth a visit. Clean and all the animals look so well.
It was really great however you can get lost so don't leave the kids on their own! Be prepared for quite a long walk if you want to see every animal/species. But really great for kids to learn and experience wildlife. Parking was good if you get their early and what was nice is you can buy your ticket before the gates open and sit/wait in an open area and visit the snack and souvenir shops as well spot a few animals as well.
One of my favorite places cuz I love animals. But one thing I might say they should have canteens inside the zoo as well or a small restaurant so that people don't have to starve like roaming you get so tired, you have to sit and eat as well. So they should have some some sorta place to sit n relax while roaming too hard. Otherwise the zoo is favorite
Great compact zoo that you can walk around and just enjoy. Been there many times and never get tired of it, easy parking, affordable and just what you expect
