Went back to the zoo with my family, it is still a great place to have a fun day out and my kids enjoyed talking to some of the keepers about the Animals (especially the Galapagos Turtle). Only downside is a lot of construction and less animals at the moment. Can t wait till it is all completed and we get the animals all back - especially the Siamang Gibbons and the Orangutan s.
Wonderful zoo, great layout, great for children. The enclosures seemed a little small to me. But I have never seen such a beautiful zoo in Germany.
Enjoyed close views of animals and movement towards more natural settingd
I was pretty fun but i think you guys need a bit more like things for the children to play with along the way but over all it was good
Not very good. there were nO DOGS! please fix this, thank you.
Great day out at the zoo, many wicked animals to see. Some construction work happening so missed out on a little bit. Was a little gob-smacked at the price of the photo albums you can get of yourself (they take a photo of your group when you enter the zoo)
very cool Zoo great exhibits. Even when super busy there is heaps of room
Until today haven't been in years. They have made some very lovely enclosures. Great for with kids as there are a lot of water fountains/cafes/seats/toilets and routes back to the exit if/when needed.
Even with all the renovations going on we had a wonderful time!
Really enjoyed our day at Auckland zoo. The kids area was closed for a function though so that was a bit of a bummer.
Nicely well organised, mostly like to see the Sri Lankan elephant Anjalee
It's a little confusing to find your way around and some of the enclosures feel a bit sad due to being small with no where for the animal to go, and others are just empty. There are some cool up close experiences to take if you want to spend the money, but these should be booked in their website ahead of time to be sure they're going to happen.
Definately one of the best Zoos I have been too, combining a wonderful and educational experience, and all the conservation they do around NZ and in partnership around the world very inspiring. Looking forward to the renovations they are undertaking the new exibits to be revealed.
We didn't have a good experience as there were very few animals. We couldn't see the tiger. Orangutans were absent and the rhinos were dead. We couldnt see the tiger either. There were very few otters n penguins unlike other times. Apart from the map they provide they should have names of roads n pathways for easy access to different places. Elephants were also inside. Wen we came to get our photos it was missing. It was a wasted trip.
so much fun and worth every cent to keep going back
Lots to see and do , saw a few animals I hadn t seen before which was rather great
One of the best ways to spend your money in Auckland, with such amazing prices I can highly recommend this to anyone. Very cheap for more then 3 hours of fun and all the attractions are awesome. The animals also seem very happy.
Awesome Zoo with a great trail to follow. Great straff and facilities. However, as we were there they were rebuilding the SEA part of the zoo which looked pretty good on the pictures, just gotta see how it turns out.
Most important yes you will get to see the kiwi birds at the night time facility!
The only good thing about the Auckland Zoo, is that it has a lot of nature all around. Everywhere you go, you are surrounded by nature and it enhances the experience of observing exotic animals in their own habitat. Other than this, the zoo absolutely sucks. It is by far one of the most boring places to visit while you're in New Zealand. It's more like a giant bird barn than a zoo, sure they have lions and elephants and seals, but other than this, it's just a bunch of birds. Yes, they are rare birds but it isn't worth the money, the rest of the zoo animals mainly spend their time sleeping anyway.
Had a fun morning out with my sons, nephews, sister and brother in law. Like that toddlers are free too. First zoo trip for my sons they loved seeing the animals.
Animals looked like they are put first! A lot of effort goes into enrichment and into educating the people and creating awareness!
The layout is maze like and for children that's great and adds to the adventure of a day there. But it's not an affordable option as affordable day out. The food is disgusting at the canteen, I suggest you take your own to save and spend the extra on the local beach buying an ice cream.
Love Auckland Zoo, look forward to the renovations being finished
We went on day it was raining, but it was the best time! Every few people around so alot of the staff had time to stop and chat to us about the diffrent animals. Everyone was so lovely!
Visit it once at least, after that it loses its attraction quickly.
Best day outs! Annual pass is a bargain if youve kids
Always a treat for the kids.
Currently redeveloping an area near the centre for a new South East Asia precinct.
Awesome kid friendly super clean place. Love all the animals and awesome work by the staff and volunteers with the maintenance. must visit because it eventually helps the animals
Great place to visit on a weekend - lots of great activities for kids.
Daughter loves this place. we go once every couple months
We came during school holiday, it was easy to reach, i took bus from Victoria st and the stop only 2 minutes walk away. The zoo area was under big construction, but it didn't affect the fun of exploring the zoo. Can't wait to see the new More
Great place to take the kids/family, just a pity so much is currently under construction, but still work the visit.
If you dont take a packed lunch there are several places to eat, and it was tasty, but they only have Charlie's drinks and they are horrible, and so said many around us at the food stall, so take your own drinks with you.
As far as zoos go this is pretty enjoyable and the keepers seem to care deeply about the animals. They are also heavily into conservation, I first heard about the ravages of Palm oil at this zoo. It's not huge on a world scale but enjoyable.
Such a wonderful experience to see these animals up close despite not being in their natural habitats. Very clean and well maintained zoo with good options for lunch. Great for a family outing. Very educational.
Always a nice day out at Auckland Zoo. Can't wait for the renovations to be finished.
Cool places to explore animals all around the world however it's pretty sad how they charge you full amount for entry fees but not animals are present. We had half animals missing like monkeys and etc. Pathetic. Feels like wasted money and time.
One of the best zoos I have ever been to... Great staff and good enclosures. Currently undergoing renovations Feb 2020
Lovely zoo with good signs, went in school holidays with my neice and loved the childrens activity section.
The childrens activity in the dome included color in tables, big block, big puzzle and silent disco. My niece loved it and had lots of fun.
A lot of renovations on the way, can't wait to see the place all done up !!
I LOVE THE ZOO! Lots of animal talks (as in the zookeeper is talking about the animals) and they have lovely volunteers helping out and the animals are all super cute and I love it! They do conservation work and help keas and make cool enclosures. I like that they put Spanish in the Glapagos tortoise enclosure and seeing proteas going into the Africa area made me very HAPPY. Their social media is also on point Awesome work, Auckland Council!
Still on the building new zone for more animals, but it's already awesome
The construction going on was incredibly intrusive. I have been visiting Auckland Zoo for nearly 70 years and had a third generation member of my family with me. It was by far the worst visit ever and not worth the $60 price tag for two senior citizens and a teenager. We saw only a handful of animals compared with previous visits. The Auckland Zoo used to be World class. Yesterday it was tired shabby what exhibits were there were weed strewn with dirty waterways. I won't be going again it is too depressing.
Improved so much since the last time we went. More enclosures were open too.
Can't wait to go again
One of the coolest zoo's I have been to around the world
This is the first time I have seen a zoo so big and it has amazing artificial ecosystems for the animals. I hate the concept of being caged but this was not exactly a depressing cage rather it felt like artificial ecosystem which mimics natural ecosystems, so that these endangered animals get help and the same time feel home. Hopefully If they increase in population, they can be transferred back to their natural habitats.
Excellent service, they went above and beyond to help sort a new wheelchair after my brother's electric chair faulted, staff members were all extremely helpful and friendly, even brought the other chair out to the carpark and helped with transfers and instructions. Zoo was lovely, great talks and displays from the keepers. Good day out with the kids.
Good place for family. Place is clean. Not too crowded. Staff with good knowledge about the animals in the zoo. Animals are well treated. Saw baby zebra, baby turtle and baby monkeys this time. Will have more new development to open soon. Recommended.
Average. would way rather go to Kelly tarltons or butterfly creek.
We had a great family time.
Safe for kids too
Had a wonderful day with the family visiting the Auckland Zoo! There are so many animals to see here, they are all well cared for and seem very happy in their well maintained enclosures. I recommend coming in early so you can watch all of the feeding times throughout the day. The restaurants and bathrooms are well located and serve pretty good hotdogs, chips and burgers.
Best Zoo in New Zealand - you may want to wait a bit at the moment as some massive renovations underway that will be finished in the new year.
Always a great time for all at the zoo. They've really invested a lot in updating the exhibits. Very authentic.
Hadn't been there for over 40 years. Enjoyed it. Especially the different areas for different countries.
It's always been kids favourite place. Love their new Africa area~ well done Auckland Zoo! Can't wait to see the new alterations when they're done.
Family friendly and a good amount of animals to see
I really wanted to see a Kiwi going to New Zealand. In the wild they are very hard to encounter, but I saw one here!! The zoo itself it a labyrinth, but there is a lot of cool stuff to see!
The keepers were great. We loved the red panda talk. She was really interesting and obviously loved the animals. We had a great time.
Nothing special. But many animals are missing even in a place there was a sign that said hippopotamus soon.
I am a "friend of the zoo" and its well worth it ! Can't wait till all the constructions done I just hope it's before my pass runs out!
Great zoo. Well thought out layout. Generally animals seem happy and large enough enclosures. Expanding zoo at the moment.. looks great. Kids and parents loved it. Probably the only Auckland attraction I will revisit with kids next year.
Great day out at Auckland Zoo.lots of construction going on .The zoo will be fantastic when finished.
Good displays. Lots of building work going on so should be good when finished.
Cheap entry but expensive photos. Always having renovations when I go there and feel like I miss out on seeing a few animals. Today there was a keeper growling a kid for being too close to the parakeet which was in an open cage where there wasn't anything seperating the bird from visitors, there was a sign to not touch the bird but nothing about being 'too close' I just thought it was really rude the way she told off the little girl, could have just politely warned her instead. Other than that it's a really lovely place to go for any occasion with lots of cafes to choose from throughout the park.
